Anime Expo and Stocking Up on Saturday

As I mentioned, earlier, my daughter is home to attend the Anime Expo being held at the Los Angeles Convention Center.  She offered to take the subway to downtown and back, if I would drop her off at the station and pick her up, again, at night, but, I prefer to drive her.  I don't like the idea of her going by subway when she's dressed in her cosplay costumes, unless it is absolutely necessary.  Besides, the car needs to be driven and I don't mind the driving.  I enjoy seeing all the activities going on, downtown!

This year, they have these anime mascots outside the Convention Center:

This next photo has nothing to do with the Anime Expo, other than the fact that I saw it on the curb as I was driving daughter, yesterday morning, and I asked her to take a photo of it.  Someone had put out a treadmill on which a chair had been placed!  I told daughter that it was my kind of treadmill!  LOL!  We were almost past it before she could take her phone out to take a picture, but, I couldn't slow down because there were cars behind me and I didn't want to hold up traffic.  The treadmill is at the lower right of the picture:

Friday's cosplay outfit was inspired by Pikachu of Pokemon fame!

"Pika"
Once again, daughter bought the dress at a thrift store to be used for this purpose and she made the ears and the tail:

"Chu!"
Today, we were up at 7:30 a.m. and I dropped her off in downtown by 9:00 a.m.  I put gas to the car on the way home, filling the tank.  Gas was $3.53/gal. and I put just over 10 gallons of gas.  It came to $36.17.

Then, I went to the grocery store to stock up on toilet paper and paper towels.  The problem with buying in bulk is there's no place to store stuff!  I now have two big packs of toilet paper and paper towels sitting in the middle of the spare room floor!  While I was at the store, I also bought another bag of cat food, a bottle of Worcestershire sauce, a packet of frozen potstickers and some meat that was 50% off because they were approaching the "sell by" date:

Discounted Meat
I bought one package of boneless chuck steak and two packages of ground beef.

My groceries came to:
1 pkg. ground beef (.89 lb @ $3.06/lb) = $2.72
1 pkg. ground beef (1.12 lb @ $3.04/lb) = $3.41
Chuck steak (1.77 lb @ $2.85/lb) = $5.05
1 box frozen chicken potstickers = $3.99
1 bottle Worcestershire sauce = $4.99
Total = $20.16

July grocery budget = $100
Spent to date = $23.56 + $5.78 + $20.16 = $49.50

Amount left in the budget = $100 - $49.50 = $50.50

The total spent on groceries does not include the canned food items I bought at the dollar store as part of emergency/earthquake supplies.

After I came home and put away the groceries, I had brunch and watched a little news.  My plan for the rest of the day is to relax a bit, then, go downtown to pick up daughter, and, hopefully, spend a quiet evening.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A safe night without any shaking or rattling
- A safe drive to drop off daughter in the morning
- Gas for the car
- Well stocked grocery stores
- Having an emergency fund

I did all the items on my to do list for today. Only to pick up my daughter in the evening and to cook the meat I bought, today.

How is your Saturday coming along?

  2. Hi Bless, You are brave to drive downtown. I like taking the red line. We have a bus that goes to North Hollywood Station. It's been a quiet Saturday. I planted lots of flowers in the cottage garden. I've been cooking, reading, and meditating.

    1. Hi Stephenie. I used to work in downtown, so driving there and back is nothing new. :) Your Saturday sounds wonderful. What kinds of flowers did you plant? I have some sunflower seeds I've been meaning to plant; just haven't got around to doing it!

  3. Your daughter is very cute in her costumes. And I have actually heard of both of her characters! My nephews often dress up characters I've never heard of.

  4. The costumes are so cute and your daughter looks great in them.
I also struggle to find space for anything I buy in bulk. A sackful of cat food arrived yesterday and I've had to put it under the basin in the downstairs bathroom. X

    1. Thank you, Jules.

I suppose I could store the items in the garage, but, my garage is so dusty, I hate to store anything there!

  5. Another great costume! Which comes first, the character and then find a costume to suit or,hunt for clothes and choose the character based on the clothes she has found?

    1. I think a combination of the two. :) She has a couple of ideas as to who she wants to go as, then, go looking for the clothes. But, if she doesn't find the suitable outfits, then, she bases her costumes on what she finds. :)
