| June 20 Inside Temperature |
I had a quiet day, today. I did office work for the better part of the day. Then, started to cut strips from some of the fabric I have in the stash - I have decided to make a crocheted rag rug. It is fabric that was given to me and I have quite a lot of it. The rug will be a good way of using it up. It'll take me some time to cut all the strips, but it can be done while watching TV, etc. Later in the evening, I hand watered the front garden and took the trash cans to the curb. I didn't do the paperwork/filing I had planned to do.

2 skirts
2 blouses
1 jacket
2 3-ring binders
1 necklace
1 phone charger (to a phone I no longer have)
1 bundle of 11 bangles
This makes a total of 200 items tossed so far this month. :)
On Monday I was grateful for:
- Ceiling and stand fans
- Electricity (several communities were without power, today)
- Popsicles, iced water, and a cool shower
- Water for my garden
- Phone calls from my sister, aunt, and a friend
Plans for tomorrow include office work and the paperwork I didn't do today.
How was your Summer Solstice Monday? Hope it was cooler than mine!
Do you have an attic door you can open? The heat will rise and draw in cooler air from outside through open windows in the late night and early morning. I used to do that in Delaware. Also close your curtains and drapes during the day. Libraries and malls are good places to go when the heat is bad during the day as is your air-conditioned car. Stay well hydrated.
ReplyDeleteMarylynn, good suggestions; thank you. Yes, I do have an opening to the attic that I can open and the drapes are closed during the day. I will have the window a/c unit put up this Friday - our hot summer is only getting started.

ReplyDeleteThe 10 items a day works out well for me. It seems I can always find 10 items, if I dig deep enough (and often, not that deep, either!)
DeleteOh my goodness...that is way too hot. I would be sick in that heat. Praying it cools way down for you and you get that AC unit in quickly!

ReplyDeleteI remember my mother & grandmother making crocheted & braided rag rugs. We always had 2 or 3 scattered about the house when I was growing up.

I made a fairly large braided rug at one time, but then, found it difficult to launder! Another type of rug I used to make was done by sewing down strips of fabric to burlap. But, again, hard to wash!
DeleteBless.. I feel for you in this horrible heat.. It did come in all of a sudden.. Ours did too.. Try to stay cool until Friday, when the gardner comes to put the AC in for you.. The fans help, for sure.

Judy, it was kind of early for such a hot heat wave. We normally don't get so hot until August, September, etc. But it is cooler, today.
DeleteNot sure how big the rug will be. I think maybe 2'x3' or 3'x4'? Any bigger and it will be hard to wash. Or perhaps a round rug, about 3' diameter, although, I think the rectangular rugs will be more useful.
Cant wait to see the rug. I just know, it will be so pretty.. Is it hard to make?
DeleteNo, not really hard to make. But a bit time consuming to cut and fold the strips (should probably buy the gadget that folds it for you). I will post photos as I go along, so you can see.
DeletePlease be careful in that heat. Would your gardener install your a/c before Friday if you asked? Wish we lived closer ... my hubby would gladly do it for you. :)
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, yes, he'd do it, but I hate to ask. It would be one more task at the end of a long day for him and I imagine all he'd want to do is go home after being out in the sun and heat all day. I can wait until Friday. :)
