Feijoa (Pineapple Guava) Flowers |
The Feijoa or pineapple guava tree is flowering now. I am hoping that there will be plenty of the fruit to pick, this year (there was no fruit last year).
Today, I enjoyed lunch with three of my cousins, including cousin M who is visiting from Australia. I offered to bring something, but, cousin V, who was hosting the lunch, said not to bother. So, I just took her a bag of lemons from my garden because she loves lemons. Cousin V had prepared what she called a "simple meal" of rice and curries. But, she is a wonderful cook and there was, in addition to the rice, chicken curry, beef curry, dhal, spicy sauteed potatoes, bread fruit curry with spinach, fried salted dry fish (a type of preserved fish), beetroot salad, and Sri Lankan mixed pickle! Quite a feast in my opinion! V had also made Sri Lankan style sego pudding (with coconut milk and jaggery) for dessert and her sister R brought two type of cookies.
I enjoyed seeing my cousins, again, especially M, as I haven't seen her in over a year (she generally visits once a year or so) and we spent the afternoon chatting. Just before I left, cousin V served me a plate of food and a container of the sego pudding to bring home! I have enough for my dinner and for lunch, tomorrow!
I've had a relaxed evening since I came home.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Visits with cousins
- A safe drive to cousin V's and back
- V sending me home with dinner
- Lemons from the garden to share
- Sunshine in the afternoon after the morning clouds
Today's joyful activity was visiting with my cousins.
Plans for tomorrow include an afternoon appointment with the oncology nurse practitioner and tending to the garden with M in the evening. I put the okra seeds to soak - we will plant them, tomorrow.
I hope I can get the internet connection to work long enough for me to copy and paste this post!
Hope you have a lovely day on Friday.
Your visit with your cousins sounds lovely, good company and good food.
ReplyDeleteIt really was, Eileen. Hope all is well with you and Tilly and you are enjoying some good weather. I miss your blog posts. :)
DeleteMy cousin M from Australia told me she was coming to England in May and would like to visit (not seen her since 1963) But not heard anything more...
ReplyDeleteOh, I do hope your cousin will inform you if and when she visits England and you can meet, Angela. :)
DeleteThe Feijoa is very striking - let's hope for lots of fruit. How lovely to visit with family & share in a meal together.
ReplyDeleteThey are very attractive flowers, aren't they? The flower petals are edible, too, but, I leave them for the birds who love them. Getting together with the cousins was wonderful.
DeleteThose guava flowers are so pretty and fancy with the stripes. Sounds like a very enjoyable lunch with your cousins. That "simple" meal sounded pretty fancy to me!
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty, aren't they? As I mentioned in an earlier reply to a comment, the flower petals are edible, but, I leave them for the birds. The mockingbirds, especially, love to eat them. The lunch with my cousins was wonderful and it was a pretty fancy lunch as far as I'm concerned, too! :)
DeleteWhat a fun visit! Isn’t it wonderful to catch up with family? The food sounds delicious, including what you brought home for today!
ReplyDeleteI have some catching up to do, reading your blog and replies. I spent a couple weeks at my sister’s apartment in the Bahamas. We swam every day, walked, went to the farmers’ market, cooked in, and ate out. It’s a relaxed pace there. I count myself very lucky to visit and hope to make many more trips after my husband retires.
😊
Welcome back, Taconix! It sounds like you had a wonderful holiday!
DeleteIt was great to see the cousins again, and yes, it was good to catch up with family. The food was delicious, too, and I enjoyed what I brought home for my lunch, today.
It's always wonderful to meet up and good cooking must run in your family as you all seem to make amazing food! It must be nice to be reminded of Sri Lanka.
ReplyDeleteSending all good vibes for the computer.
It was lovely to meet up with my cousins, Lyssa, to look at some old family pictures, chat, and enjoy a meal.
DeleteThank you! The computer wouldn't let me get on the internet until 10 mins. ago. I need to take it into the store, next week.
That was a real treat to see family and feast on delicious home cooked food with a special dessert. When you enjoy what you brought home, you will remember all the lovely conversations!
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely a treat, Bushlady. And, yes, I had the portion I brought home for my lunch, today, and remembered the conversations and the laughter. :)
DeleteIt sounds like you had a good visit with your cousins. The faijoa flowers are pretty. I have only one week left of work, technically, but I'm mostly done. My cold turned out to be flu and sinus infection together. It's nothing serious but did knock me down all week. Finally I'm feeling better. Next week I'll finish off odds and ends in my office clear out. I am anxious to get to gardening! The weather is gorgeous and I want to get flowers planted. I hope your appointment with the nurse went well.
ReplyDeleteI did, Celie; it was a lovely visit with the cousins. :)
DeleteWow! Just one week left! I'm so sorry to hear that the "cold" turned out to be something a little more, but, I'm glad you are feeling better. Enjoy your gardening!
My appointment went well, thank you. :)
I love to read about your family. It must be lovely to be so close with them. X
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules; the cousins are scattered, but, we do try to keep in touch, some more than others! :D
DeleteOh my - what delicious food! It sounds like you had a nice visit with your family.
ReplyDeleteAnd how nice you got some leftovers ;)
I did have a lovely visit with the family and the food was delicious, too. We forgot to take any pictures, so, I was invited back to lunch, again, today, and we took some pictures! :D
