I put in an order for groceries today and picked it up in the afternoon. I mostly wanted to take advantage of the sale on chicken. But, of course, I had to buy enough groceries to qualify for the free pick up (minimum $35.00 order, before coupons are deducted).
I bought:
7.33 lb. chicken thighs (2 trays) @ $0.99/lb. (reg. price $2.49/lb.) = $7.25
0/91 lb. shrimp @ $7.98/lb. = $7.27
2 bananas (0.73lb.) @ $0.68/lb. = $0.52
1 Italian salad kit, 11 oz. = $3.67
1 orange juice with mango, 54 fl. oz. = $3.99 + $0.10 deposit
1 can coconut milk = $1.99
1 box 12 oz. cereal (reg. price $4.29; free with coupon) = $0.00
1carton ice cream, 48 fl.oz., reg. price $6.49, on sale for $3.99 plus $1.00 coupon = $2.99
1 box baking soda (1 lb.)* = $1.69
* Missing item! Need to go back and pick it up, tomorrow.
Original price of items bought = $53.22
Less coupons/sales = $23.75
Total paid = $29.47
May grocery budget = $100
Spent to date = $15.39 (over spent in April) + $29.47 = $44.86
Balance remaining in the May grocery budget = $100 - $44.86 = $55.14
The shrimp was a bit of a splurge item, I think it was a good start to May's grocery shopping.
When I came home and realized that the baking soda was missing, I called the store and they said I could come by today or tomorrow to pick it up. I didn't feel like going back today, so I'll go over, tomorrow.
Have you gone grocery shopping in May, yet?
It's a shame you have to return to pick up a missing item but these things happen occasionally. I had a delivery on the 2nd May but went to a more local supermarket yesterday to buy some fresh salad stuff to have with the cold beef I cooked for our Sunday dinner. That's a good deal you had on the chicken and like how you have free items, it's very rare they give anything away for free here.
ReplyDeleteYes, I was almost tempted to request a refund for the missing item, but, I figured it would be easier to pick it up, later. Having some items delivered and then, picking up fresh produce in person sounds like a good way to do things. I wanted to take advantage of the deal on chicken and, of course, my free item! :)
DeleteWe're going grocery shopping today, but don't have any big purchases planned.
ReplyDeleteHope you find some good deals, June. :)
DeleteI'm intrigued by the Italian salad kit. It sounds like something that Honor Min would have approved of.
ReplyDeleteThe salad kit comes with everything one might want - the chopped up salad greens, croutons, and dressing. Makes it very easy to put a salad together. One does pay for the convenience, though. Yes, Honor would have approved! :)
DeleteI have been big grocery shopping, plus TheHub has been stopping by Publix every single work afternoon since last Wednesday. They have one product we use nightly BOGO. Though they bump the price up on their BOGO items, each item is still about 3/4 the cheapest price we can find it. So we stock up. I have probably spent more so far in May than I did either of the two prior months. (But those were extremely low spend months when I "shopped" mainly from the freezer and pantry.
ReplyDeleteOne has to stock up when items we use on a regular basis goes on sale! The problem with "shopping" from the pantry and freezer is, you have to replenish the stock, eventually. :)
DeleteSounds like you found some good buys in there! Food is so expensive right now. I'm finding it tough to plan good meals on a smaller budget
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. Yes, food is expensive. If I buy a splurge item (shrimp, this time), I will offset it with something less expensive (the chicken on sale). I usually go on the store website to find the bargains and then, make my meal plans based on what I buy.
DeleteThat is a pretty good haul! I think the ice cream sounds like the best steal - a little treat at a really good price.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lyssa. Yes, the ice cream for just under half price with the discounts and coupons! I was pleased with that! :)
DeleteYou got your chicken stocked up and picked up a few other things.
ReplyDeleteWhat's in your Italian salad bag?
What kind of free cereal came home with you this week?
Yes, two trays of chicken, all made into curry, portioned, and frozen!
DeleteSalad kit included a mixture of lettuce/red cabbage/carrots, a packet of salad dressing, a packet of croutons, and a packet of grated parmesan cheese.
Oh, forgot to mention the cereal - Post Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds. :) It's a cereal that both my daughter and I like. :)
