Productive Thursday

Pink Rose

I like the deep pink of this rose and how the petals seem to be edged with pale pink in this photo.

Thursday was a productive day, even though I had a relatively relaxed morning.  I woke up, once, at 7:00 a.m., turned off the porch lights and fed the cats, briefly considered staying up, but knew I hadn't had enough sleep and so, went back to bed and slept until mid-morning!  Then, replied to blog comments, visited and commented on a few blogs, caught up on some news, etc., and before I knew it, it was afternoon!

After brunch (salad), I started on the kitchen cleaning.  I did it in sections, over the course of the afternoon and early evening, a few doors at a time (to keep my hands from cramping), but, I washed almost all the kitchen cabinet doors.  I didn't do the doors to the cabinets above the fridge or the ones above the stove, since I can't reach them, easily.  But, the rest of the cabinet and drawer fronts were wiped down.   Later, I mopped the kitchen floor and washed the kitchen rug and bathroom mats, etc.

I called the Temple, today, to find out if it would be possible to participate in this weekend's religious ceremonies online, but, was told that it will not be possible to do so.  I didn't think it would be available online, but, thought I'd check, just in case.  I am not yet willing to attend Temple events in-person (today's new Covid case count was over 3,400).

In the evening, I started the car as it has not been started since I drove it to pick up the groceries last Friday and let it run for a few minutes while I walked around the garden and checked on the plants.

A Pair of Mourning Doves Out for a Stroll

They are well camouflaged, aren't they?

The euphorbia tirucalli branches on the ground are what were pruned; they are waiting for M to put them in the green yard waste bin to be collected, next week.

Bauhinia Flowers

Afterwards, I cooked the chicken I had kept to thaw (made a curry), and had it with the last two parathas I had in the freezer. I was planning to make coconut roti, but, I was feeling a bit too tired by then to make roti.  The frozen parathas were easier.

After dinner, I chatted with friend R on the phone and video chatted with my daughter.

 Thursday's To Do List:

- Wipe down kitchen cabinet door fronts - DONE
- Mop kitchen floor - DONE
- Load of laundry (kitchen rug, etc.) - DONE
- Cook chicken - DONE
- Start the car - DONE
- Put okra seeds to soak - DONE

On Thursday, I was grateful for:
- Being able to sleep in!
- A warmer day
- The car started
- Working appliances
- What I was able to accomplish

Thursday's joyful activity was enjoying a bowl of fruit salad, while I video chatted with my daughter:

Fruit Salad in my New Bowl

On the To Do List for Friday:
- Clean my bathroom
- Have M plant the okra seeds
- Start on that quilt border

How was your Thursday?  How is your Friday coming along?

  1. Yes you were certainly busy. Very busy!
Your home has gotten lots of attention this week. Cleaning the kitchen cabinet doors is a big job to check off your list. Along with cleaning the floors and washing the rugs, I need a break just reading about it all.
    lol

Your rose is so pretty. I love the variation in coloring.

    1. Yes, I was tired of listening to myself going on about how messy the place was! LOL. Last week should have been the week to do the "all house" cleaning, according to my schedule, but, since that didn't happen, I decided that this week shall be the "all house" cleaning week. I am focusing on what I can do - dusting, tidying, clearing horizontal surfaces, etc. And then, I'm going to reward myself with some sewing! :) Not even sure what I am going to sew, but, there are plenty of projects in progress to choose from.

  2. You have had a productive day and I'm not surprised your were tired at the end of it.

I love the rose colour - it's fabulous. You do have some lovely colourful roses in your garden. Is the Bauhinia another one of your edible plants? I haven't heard of it before.

It's a shame you can join in with the Temple service but better safe than sorry. Your local numbers are still quite scary.

I've spent most of the day in the garden. M was here to plant all the new goodies, and I'm really pleased with how it is looking at the moment.

    1. Eileen, I'm so sorry, but, this comment had gone to my spam folder and I didn't check that folder till today! I have mostly red, pink, white, and yellow roses in the garden, now. There are a couple of different pink roses. Certain species of Bauhinia are considered to be edible plants, although I admit I have not tried eating any of the parts of my tree because I am not sure if it is one of the edible species or not! It was grown from a seed an uncle gave my mother (I have a second seedling growing in a pot, from a seed from this tree).

  3. Stunning rose! I am always so impressed how you manage to check off so many things on your list on such a consistent basis. I guess sleeping in works for you.

    1. Thank you, Susanne. Yes, considering the fact that it is almost 4:00 a.m. and I haven't gone to bed, yet, sleeping in works for me! :D

  4. Beautiful photo of a beautiful rose! Well done on sticking to your to-do lists. I bet the fruit salad tasted even better from the new bowl, and after all that work. Here's to the weekend!

  6. PS. I currently have 5 very healthy (uninvited) brambles rampaging in my flower beds. Just checking you definitely don't want them before I destroy them ....

    1. Oh, I do wish I could have your uninvited brambles, but, collecting them from you might be a bit of a problem. :) Maybe you could bring them when you come to dinner? I am assuming you are not being allowed to comment as yourself, again?

    2. Well, I wish I had your talent for killing them! I am now on my laptop, which is behaving (somewhat) and acknowledging my existence.

    3. The trick for killing them is easy - dig them up and transplant them next to a wall that retains heat from the summer sun, in dry soil, in 90F+ weather and water infrequently. :)

  7. What a gorgeous shade of pink that rose is! You have been busy. but smart to take breaks while cleaning those cabinet doors. I love mourning doves and I expect to hear some soon in our yard. We certainly have plenty of birds to listen to. The leaves are coming out rapidly and the serviceberry trees are pretty to see.with their white blossom.
We are in a heat wave, and I wouldn't dare complain after the winter we had! It was over 96F today and close to that yesterday. I took an ice pack in an insulated bag to bring home some frozen items from the store.

    1. It is a very pretty shade of pink, isn't it? I was busy, but, I was determined to get some of those cleaning tasks crossed off my list! Things are back to being more manageable, again, and I can work on the remaining tasks as part of my weekly routines. :)
Oh, wow, you are certainly having a heat wave! I heard a bit about it on the news, today. That was a good idea to take an ice pack in an insulated bag for the frozen items. Stay as cool as you can and take it easy when it is so hot.

  8. Love those mornings when one can go back to bed. There is a Buddhist Temple about 100 yards from my daughters house and I'd so love to go there for meditation ... but, same as you... covid keeps me away.

    1. One of the benefits of being retired is being able to sleep in/go back to bed! :) Maybe, one day, you might be able to visit the Temple and do some meditation there, Ratnamurti. I rather miss the Friday night meditation classes I used to attend.

  9. That's a very pretty rose with the paler pink edging. Nothing to lose inquiring about participating in ceremonies online but a shame it's not possible but you are being very sensible consider the high Covid numbers. I'm sure your daughter was thrilled to see you using your new bowls, they're lovely.

    1. I have never noticed that paler pink edging on the rose, before, Eileen; I wonder if it was something to do with the angle of the sun. Yes, I thought I'd ask; nothing to prevent me from doing something to have my own personal retreat, of course. Friday's new case count went over 4,000; I'm playing safe! My daughter was very happy to see me use her bowls. :)

  10. You are a powerhouse at the moment. It's a shame that you can't attend Temple online, especially as Covid hasn't gone away. I hope that you are taking care of yourself.

    1. I was determined to get caught up on my housework! It seems that everyone is acting as if Covid is a thing of the past - which is probably why our numbers are shooting up, again!
