A Finished Project

New Rug

I've been busy sewing myself a rug, these past few days!  I started on it on Sunday, after I sewed the uneven cat blocks!  I used some of the thicker fabric that I had, most of which were denim weight.

The Backing is Pieced, too.

I used an old bath towel that had been trimmed and bound, many years ago.  The binding was coming off and I cut it off and trimmed the towel, yet again.  Then, I used some of the trimmed pieces to reinforce sections of the towel that were worn thin.  I used fabric squares that I had cut out for another project, which didn't get used for that project, to make the backing, sewing them together to get a big enough piece of fabric.

The new rug has been passed by Quality Control and given the Dancer Seal of Approval, as you can see:

Being Inspected by the Chief Quality Control Officer

Gets the Dancer Seal of Approval

He's been sleeping on it all evening!

In between sewing, I've been doing the usual housekeeping tasks - trash cans have been brought in, the family room and my bedroom have been dusted, M has watered the garden, dishes have been done, and the litter box has been cleaned.  I didn't vacuum, today, so that has been shifted to tomorrow.

Thursday's To do List:
- Doctor's appointment at noon
- Load of laundry
- Clean the kitchen
- Vacuum

Today, I am grateful for:
- M tending to the garden
- The fabric stash
- A working sewing machine
- Chats and texts with family and friends
- Dancer's seal of approval!

Today's joyful activity was sewing and finishing the rug.

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?

  1. That's a great rug, and so good that it is created from your stash. Dancer clearly approves! I've had a creative Wednesday, but today is bright and sunny. Hoping to go for a walk by the sea.

    1. Thank you, Jules. I don't know what I would have done if it didn't receive his seal of approval! :D I'm trying to whittle down my stash!

  3. How cute. You got that project done very quickly which shows you are really in a sewing mood. Do you have your next project planned? Back to the cat squares or something new?

Your quality control officer seems quite pleased. It's good policy to keep him happy.

    1. Thank you, Debra. It was just the sort of fun, relatively mindless project I was in the mood for! The next project really should be finishing the binding on a quilt top I've already pieced. And finishing the second baby blanket I'm crocheting. We shall see. :)
The quality control officer has been spotted sleeping on the job, so to speak! :D

  5. When you said you were making a rug with leftover fabric, I imagined it was a woven rag rug because I've never seen a pieced rug before. It's very pretty, but more importantly, it has Dancer's approval.

    1. I considered making a woven rag rug, but, I don't have a suitable frame to weave on. I also didn't want to make another crocheted rug. So, I thought I'll try this way, instead. Yes, Dancer has approved it! :D

  7. It's good to see Dancer taking his quality control duties so seriously! Your new rug looks lovely and Dancer obviously approved of it

I haven't done very much today at all. It's 1:30pm and the parcel promised for morning delivery hasn't arrived so I need to wait in this afternoon now. Shopping will have to wait until tomorrow afternoon as M will be here tomorrow morning.

    1. Dancer was a bit upset because he couldn't inspect the work in progress as he used to do (he no longer jumps up on the dining table like he used to; his legs are not quite what they used to be). But, he was very happy to inspect the finished item and approve it! :D
Sorry to hear that your parcel wasn't delivered when promised. Hope it arrived in the afternoon and you didn't have to wait in for nothing. Hope tomorrow afternoon will be a convenient time for you to shop.
My M asked for and received the day off tomorrow, as he wanted a long weekend (Monday is a holiday - Memorial Day).

  9. Dancer must have thought it was his birthday when you put that rug down on the floor!
We had rain all night, often quite heavy. The green outside is amazing, everything has burst into leaf recently. I love the freshness of spring.

Glad you received rain and not snow! That fresh green of spring is so pretty, isn't it? :)

  10. Well done! Ingenious! And it's lovely to have one's efforts appreciated. Has the QC officer noticed that this was actually meant to be a "sample", or are you keeping that secret in case he demands an upgrade?! 😄

    1. Thank you! Shh! It's a secret! :D I wondered if anyone would notice and comment on the "Sample"! I debated whether to turn that piece of fabric over to hide the printing or not, but, decided to include it. A cousin's husband used to work in a fabric dyeing company and he used to bring my mother offcuts and samples of fabric that had been dyed. :)

    2. I think it's nice to have that piece included on the top side. It's characterful - much like its owner, who must also feel very comforted by what looks to be leopard print round the border?

    3. Thank you. :) Yes, it is some kind of animal print fabric that was also given to me - I used part of that fabric to make a tote bag (which I gave to friend R), and a book cover for my daughter (I added pointy ears and a tail which could be used as a bookmark, to the book cover, but, she wouldn't let me put googly eyes!) and have just about come to the end of it! :)
