Mother's Day Treat |
Dancer let me sleep in a little before he demanded breakfast! Then, my daughter called to wish me for Mothers' Day and the day was off to a good start. I spent a relaxed morning replying to blog comments and reading other blogs. Then, I made myself some waffles for brunch, as planned. Except, it was early afternoon by then and I wanted something a bit more substantial than berries and syrup with my waffles. So, I had my waffles with leftover fish curry, which was just right! I was going to have a waffle with the berries afterwards, but, I eventually had it after dinner, for dessert - waffles with syrup, freshly picked blueberries, and whipped topping! Delicious!
There were several phone calls and texts from family and friends, and friend S (not neighbor S), invited me to come and have some barbecue with her family; it was very kind of her to do so, but, I declined the invitation, explaining that I was not going out much, yet.
I had selected the following items to do on Sunday and I am happy to say that I did most of them!
- Finish the pantry inventory
- My mother, my daughter, and being a mother, myself.
- Not having sciatica pains and being able to do all the things I need to do to live on my own
- Phone calls and well wishes from family and friends; my friend's invitation to dinner
- Blueberries from the garden
- Water for the garden
- Paperwork/filing
- Take the trash cans to the curb
Yeah to a pain free Mother's Day this year. Your waffles with berries look very tasty, especially since your grew the blueberries yourself. Nice short to do list sounds perfect ... part of the new time management?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary-Lou. I have found that home grown blueberries, eaten within hours of picking them, taste so much better than the ones you buy from the supermarket! Yes, the to do list is part of my new time management strategy. :)
DeleteLet's hope those sciatica pains never return!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am being careful not to overdo things, to take a break when I feel tired rather than pushing myself to finish what I am doing at the time. I do not wish to experience those pains again!
DeleteWas it really a year ago that you had those awful sciatica pains? I'm so glad that that is in the past for you.
ReplyDeleteYou had another productive day. Sorting out freezer is a big job in itself without all the other stuff you did, so give yourself a pat on the back.
I've spent some more time in the garage/garden today, just pottering really. I'm working on emptying the pots that I don't plan to use this year but taking it slowly as they're heavier than they look!
Time flies, doesn't it? I hope those pains will stay put firmly in the past! :)
DeleteThank you. :) I am pleased with what I was able to accomplish, yesterday.
Sounds like you've been busy, too. Yes, do take it easy with emptying those pots. Hope your knee is feeling OK. :)
That was kind of Dancer to let you sleep In a little! The waffles look delicious with the blueberries and whipped topping.
ReplyDeleteWe had a low key Mother's Day and spent much of it outdoors. Having visited the woodlot in the morning, we headed down to the river in the afternoon. After our gloomy days we now seem to be having one lovely day after another and it is so uplifting, I'm off to the optometrist soon so I won't be doing yard work today. We will probably eat supper on the deck.
Yes, it was, wasn't it? He even voluntarily came over for cuddles, throughout the day, curling up right next to me on the sofa and purring loudly! :D
DeleteGlad you are having some nice weather, Bushlady, and were able to enjoy time spent outdoors. Hope you have a good visit with the optometrist and a relaxed rest of the day. :)
The waffles and blueberries look so yummy. Pleased that you had a wonderful mothers day and a pain free one. I think that you are on to a successful tool with the short list as you achieve all of it and feel good about it. Nice of Dancer to let you sleep in a bit!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. The waffles with blueberries were delicious! Yes, you are right; a shorter, more realistic to do list is good as it is more achievable. It helps me stay focused on getting the things done rather than feel overwhelmed by all that needs to be done! It was very kind of Dancer to let me sleep in! He was patient with me this morning, too! :D
DeleteThe waffles with blueberries and cream look lovely! I'm sure they tasted even better! How nice of Dancer to let you sleep in. You had a busy day Saturday, so needed the rest. Cats know these things!! I also hope the sciatica is well in the past!
ReplyDeleteThe waffles with blueberries and whipped topping was very good. A total indulgence, but, it was a special day. :) Ha, ha, yes, I guess Dancer knew that I needed the rest! Oh, I do hope I don't get sciatica again! It was horrible! Hope all is well with you, Celie.
DeleteSounds like a lovely day! Glad you were able to chat with your daughter and others. It sounds like you have a lovely support system around you who think of you often.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. Yes, it was a very nice day. I do have some very nice friends and family who always reach out to me and let me know they are there for me. I feel very blessed to have them around me. :)
DeleteThat was nice to get an invite to come over and have some BBQ, even if you were unable to do so, it's always nice to be asked. A belated happy Mother's Day to you. Glad you're not having any sciatica issues. The pain was terrible last year I remember. Denise
ReplyDeleteThank you, Denise. Yes, it was very nice to be invited, to know that they thought of me and wanted to include me in their celebrations. They are good friends of many years. I was completed debilitated by those sciatica pains, last year! Took me a long time to recover, too.
DeleteHope all is well with you, Denise. Have a good week. :)
Your waffles and blueberries and creamy topping look delicious. I'm glad you had a good Mother's Day with no sciatica pains, I know how horrendous they are as my husband is a sufferer. I hope you stay pain-free.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen. The waffles with blueberries and topping were so good that I had another serving, today, with the leftovers! :D
DeleteI am so sorry to hear that your husband suffers from sciatica. They are the worst pains, ever!
I'm glad that you got to speak to your daughter. Good luck with the pantry list. It will a real help to you, but it must be a daunting prospect.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lyssa. Yes, it was good to chat with my daughter. :)
DeleteThe pantry inventory is coming along! I don't think I have a huge stock, unlike some people who have serious pantries, but, my stuff is spread out, all over the place, so, in addition to writing down what I have, I have to make a note of where they are kept! It's not enough to know I have 2 jars of peanut butter in stock, if I don't know where they are! :D
Waffles sound like just the ticket - they definitely qualify as pampering food! Glad you had such a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susanne; waffles are a firm favorite! :)
DeleteWow - it's been a year since your sciatica pain. You really went through a bad time with that. I'm so glad it hasn't returned and you are able to do the things you want to do.
ReplyDeleteYour waffles look delicious. I like how you use them for sweet and savory dishes.
Yes, time flies, doesn't it? I will never again take being able to do simple things by myself, like stand at the sink to brush my teeth, without pain, again!
DeleteI love waffles (even more than pancakes), and they are equally good as savory or as sweet. :)
