Friday: Another Day, Another Doctor's Appointment

I didn't bother going to bed any earlier than 2:30 a.m., last night and I know it was 3:30 a.m. before I fell asleep.  But, I woke up at 8:30 a.m., when the alarm went off, although I stayed in bed for another 15 minutes or so.

I left the house a little after 9:30 a.m. and got to the clinic in good time.  They were running behind schedule, so, although my appointment was for 11:00 a.m., I had to wait until after 11:30 a.m., before I got called in, but I had taken some knitting with me to do while I waited, so it was fine with me.  My blood pressure was a little higher than it had been on Wednesday, at the other appointment, but it was still normal and my blood sugar reading was good, too.  The primary care physician assistant examined me and went over the blood test results in detail, with me.  Everything was in the normal range and she was very pleased with my A1c levels.  But, she didn't want to make any changes to my medication dosages, because, the last time she did that, things fluctuated a bit too much.  So, I am to stay on what my current medication dosages are and just monitor everything until my next appointment in 2 months' time.  She didn't have any opinion about which additional calcium supplements I should take to build up my bone density and said to discuss it with the oncologist (my appointment is on Monday).

It was past 12:30 p.m. when I left the clinic and then, I drove to the lab for blood tests for my appointment with the oncologist on Monday!  I had almost forgotten I had an appointment on Monday!  For some reason, I had thought it was in September!  It's a good thing I checked my appointment book, again, this morning.  I was a walk-in at the lab, but there wasn't a wait, so, I was in and out.

Then, I went to the pet supplies store and bought more flea spray, for both indoors and out.  I bought a different brand of spray for the outside, this time (the same brand as what I've been using inside), to see if that was more effective.  Stopped at the dollar store on the way back and bought three boxes of baking soda (for use as a cleaner/deodorizer).  I had forgotten to take the information about the vacuum cleaner bags (product code, etc.), so I didn't go to Sears to buy them.  I have one more bag to use this weekend and will buy the bags over the weekend, or on Monday.

It was in the mid-to-upper 90s, today; about 97F when I came home, around 3:30 p.m. I ate a late lunch and then, took a nap on the sofa!  I didn't wake up till past 6:00 p.m., when M came to do the garden!  I had him spray the garden with the new container of outdoor spray I bought.

I felt too tired to go to the meditation session, today.  So, I stayed home and rested.  My day was quite full, as it was, I felt.  I ran the dishwasher and washed a few other items, like my teacups, by hand, and wiped down the counters and stove top.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A good visit with the doctor
- Blood test results were all good
- M spraying the garden for me
- An afternoon nap
- Resting in the evening

  1. Yay, for another good doctor's report. I'm sure they are a relief to you every time that happens.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. Yes, they are! My doctor explained which of the results indicate that my kidneys are functioning as they should, which indicate liver functions, which are the cancer markers, etc. This time, the overall results were good and all within the normal range. :)

  2. You must be paying a fortune for vacuum cleaner bags. They aren't cheap. You had another full day. I know myself that appointments and having lab work done is very tiring...and in this HEAT. You did well to have rested when you got home. Now that you are retired, do you change up your routine for the weekends, or is it business as usual?

    1. Susan, you are right - the vacuum cleaner bags are not cheap. I hate having to toss them after just one use (usually I can use one for several times before it becomes full), but, I don't want to take the risk, with fleas.

It's when I get home from running errands that I feel tired! Also, yesterday, I had been fasting for the various blood tests, and although I ate a banana afterwards, before doing the shopping and I didn't feel hungry until I came home, I guess lunch just sort of made me feel tired?

My routine? What's that? See, that's just my problem! I don't have a routine!

  3. Well you seem to be stuck on 3.30 am at the moment for bedtime! I hope that you will eventually be able to fall asleep earlier. I had trouble sleeping last night. It seemed to me that the slightest sound or movement was enough to shock me awake, and in the end I got up and read a book! It was getting towards 3 am when I went back to bed and actually fell asleep.

I puttered in the yard today and moved one or two overcrowded plants to a raised bed where I plan to keep them well weeded.
I even moved some Johnny Jump-ups from the lawn and planted them in there because I love those tiny pansies.

    1. I'm sorry you couldn't fall asleep, last night, but reading a book was the right thing to do. Hope you were able to sleep in after falling asleep at 3:00 a.m.

Glad you were able to spend some time in the garden, transplanting some plants. Johnny Jump-ups are lovely and they self seed themselves, too, don't they? I tried growing them here, but, way too hot for them.

  4. I've spent some time reading your back posts--I was behind. It sounds like you are doing great! Lots of good news at the doctors' offices, good deals at the stores, good visits with your daughter....lots of good:)

My Friday night and Saturday was full of food preservation. I sent hubby and youngest daughter away on a camping/rock hunting/fishing expedition, and had the house mostly to myself. So, I picked and preserved lots of small amounts of this and that. There's a lot to do this time of year! I do have 2 big boxes and a bucket full of peaches that need to be dealt with in the week to come, along with some apples that need to be turned into applesauce. It will be a busy week!

    1. Thank you, Becky. You have certainly been busy! I have some frozen fruit to be processed into jam, but haven't done it yet. It is just a little too hot, right now, to be standing over a hot stove, stirring a pot of jam!
