At Home on Saturday

Woke up this morning to the lovely sound of Dancer throwing up in my bedroom!  The phone rang while I was cleaning it up; cousin P calling and leaving a message for me to call her back.  I called her back and we chatted for a few minutes and then, she came over for a visit.  She brought me a table cloth that my mother had crocheted for her mother; she said she wasn't using it and I had told her, sometime ago, that if ever she decided she didn't want it anymore, to give it to me instead of giving away to charity.  I do have other table cloths my mother had crocheted, but I am happy to have this one, too:

Crocheted Table Cloth

After lunch (leftover pasta and salmon from last night's dinner), I emptied the dishwasher and the dish drainer and put away everything, other than this morning's coffee mug and the plate from my lunch, which I washed and kept in the dish drainer to air dry.

Friend R called in the afternoon and we had a long chat.

I didn't feel very energetic or motivated to do anything, today.  I tried to take a nap, later in the afternoon, but didn't actually fall asleep.  So, I just rested.

Poor Dancer threw up a second time in the afternoon - he's eating his dry cat food too fast, I think.  No hair balls, as far as I could tell.  He shouldn't have too many hair balls since I am combing him, daily, and removing lots of loose fur.  I gave him his flea treatment, today, and gave him a treat of a broccoli leaf, because he waited patiently while I applied the treatment.

I sprayed the living room sofas, today, in the morning.  Later, in the evening, I started cleaning the family room.  I dusted the tall bookcase, the coffee table and side table, the TV cart, and the entertainment center.  Tomorrow, I plan to dust the two shorter bookcases, the small dining table and the computer desk.

In between, I read a few more chapters of my library book and watched some TV.  It is my hope that I will be able to be more productive, tomorrow.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Cousin giving me the crocheted table cloth
- A relaxed day
- Cooler evenings
- Flea medications and sprays
- TV specials

Saturday's To Do List:
- Vacuum
- Buy additional vacuum cleaner bags
- Give Dancer his flea meds - DONE
- Paperwork/filing - STARTED
- Start cleaning the family room - STARTED

Sunday's To Do List:
- Vacuum
- Buy additional vacuum cleaner bags
- Paperwork/filing
- Continue to clean the family room
- Clean the laundry area, too

How was your Saturday?   How do you motivate yourself to do things you know should be done?

  1. The tablecloth is beautiful. It must have taken a long time and a lot of patience to make it. I guess you leaned your skills from you mother because you also make beautiful, tedious things. Does your daughter knit or crochet?

    1. My mother used to calculate how many units she needed to make for a table cover and divide by 30 to see how many she'd need to make per day in order to have enough for a table cloth in one month. Then, every evening, after she had corrected all her papers, etc. (she was a teacher), she'd sit down and crochet! My mother learned to crochet in her early fifties and she preferred that to knitting, although she knew to knit. I know to crochet, but I prefer to knit. My daughter crochets and prefers that to knitting. She does crocheted amigurumi, which are stuffed toys.

  2. You have been motivating yourself all week to get stuff done, and doing remarkably well. Take the advice you gave to me. The week-ends are for relaxing. (and regrouping and recharging) It can wait until Monday. Priority #1 was giving Dancer his meds AND you were successful at starting the family room and the paper work. What more do you want to do?

    1. Oh, Susan, I'm very good at telling others what to do, aren't I? Do I follow my own advice? Of course not!

That's a good question - what more do I want to do? I want it all DONE, yesterday, already! All the filing, all the cleaning, all the tidying and decluttering! Yes, I know, baby steps. It will get done, eventually.

    1. Thank you, Jules. I am so glad my cousin gave it to me. I did ask her if she thought her daughter would like to have it, but she said no, her daughter didn't want it. I am not sure if my daughter would want it, either, but that's up to her.
