On the Last Day of November

On the last day of November, I still didn't take a picture to post on the blog!  Tsk, tsk!  Dare I offer yet another old picture?

Dancer

I had a phone call at 9:30 a.m. today, from the tree trimmers I had called, yesterday.  They could have someone come out to give me an estimate, this morning, between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.  I said I needed to leave for a doctor's appointment at 11:00 a.m. (the appointment was at 12:00 noon), could they be here before that?  I was assured that someone will be here before 11:00 a.m.  Rene was here at about 10:45 a.m. and I told him that, in addition to the trimming, I wanted at least 5 feet taken off the top, as well.  The last time I had the eucalyptus tree trimmed, two years ago, it cost me $800.  I was expecting the estimate to be higher, this time around.  But, Rene said he will charge me the same amount!  I was so happy!  I guess it pays to be a repeat customer!  There was a $100 deposit, due today, and the remaining $700 will be paid upon completion of the trimming.  We went ahead and scheduled the trimming for January 12, 2024.

As soon as he had left, I left to go to my doctor's appointment.  There wasn't a lot of traffic, today, and I arrived at the doctor's office with 15 minutes to spare.  The appointment went very well.  My weight had stayed stable and my blood pressure, heart rate, etc., were all good.  I had been concerned about my blood test results, but, they, too, were within normal ranges for most of the things that were checked.  There were two things that were out of the normal ranges, but, both can be managed with life style changes - mainly diet and exercise with some stress reduction as well!  Well within my control!  The previous areas of concern had resolved themselves and were no longer areas of concern, for which I am very thankful.  My next appointment will be in six months, unless I needed to see her before that for whatever reason, in which case I am to call and request an appointment.

I bought myself a hamburger on the way home and, after lunch, walked for a bit, up and down the driveway.  Then, I took a nap!

In the evening, I watched news and some music programs on TV.  It was not a very productive evening, but, that's OK.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Good blood test results and doctor's appointment
- Answered prayers
- Health insurance and access to medical care
- A safe drive to the doctor's office and back
- The tree trimming has been scheduled at the same charge as previously

Today's joyful activities included an afternoon nap, chatting with my daughter, and reading the results of my blood test report!

Plans for Friday include making milkrice for brunch and tending to the garden with M.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. So glad to read that your results from your blood work were good. Those things that we can control & change for the better, are the harder ones (col). Lovely photo of Dancer. Good that the quote for the tree trimming is a reasonable price. Hard to believe it is now December, the last gem on the string of 2023. :)

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. Yes, it is difficult to change diets and activity levels, etc., isn't it? But, I've managed to get off at least two medications and I don't want to go back on them. So, I'm going to try harder! :) I like the phrase you used for December - the last gem on the string of 2023. :)

  2. That is a lot of money to have your tree trimmed but a necessary job done by a skilled person.
'm glad your test results were good and the appointment went well.
Loving your old photo of Dancer curled up in his snuggly bed :)

    1. Yes, it is a lot of money to trim the tree, but, it's a big job and not one that M and I can handle.
Thank you, Eileen; it was a big relief to find out that the test results were mostly good. :)
I like that photo of Dancer on his perch - he no longer uses it. Even when I lift him up and put him up on it, he jumps off it.

    1. Thank you, June. I know all the things I need to do, but, it's hard to actually do them! But, I am thankful that the doctor's visit went so well. :)

  4. You post so many lovely photos so I'm sure we can accept an old photo of Dancer this time. He really is adorable! I was thinking, at least you don't have to worry about snow in January when your tree is to be trimmed. People where I live have been attending to trees a lot before the winter, realizing that there is always the possibility of an ice storm causing damage, or a spring storm bringing them down. There are some very old trees and recently 3 dangerous ones were cut down because they were overhanging a public path.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. Yes, no snow to worry about! Just winter rains and winds. I need to call the electric company to let them know about the pine tree at the back - I asked the tree trimmer about tending to it and he said to notify the electric company. I know they came out a couple of years ago and trimmed it, but, it's grown back up!

I'm glad the doctor's appointment went well.
It's nice they charged you the same amount. EVerything seems to be getting so much more expensive!

Yes, I was surprised and very appreciative that the price for the tree trimming hadn't increased! I had been expecting it to have!

  7. I'm so glad your appointment went well. And that's a lovely photograph of Dancer. Mog is currently not impressed with all the snow. She keeps looking out of the cat flap wondering what's going on :)

    1. Thank you, Jules. Oh, poor Mog! I don't blame her for not wanting to go out in the snow!

  8. That's good that your doctor's appointment went well.
Back in 6 months. Then I relax for 5 months and do all the things I'm supposed to do for the last month before the visit sort of like cramming for a test in school.
    lol
That's good the price for the tree work is the same and that you can afford it. A quick response for them to come out and quote you which is nice for you to get moving on this task.
Did you get fries with your burger?

    1. Thank you, Debra. Oh, don't I wish I could relax for 5 months! LOL! But, I have the other doctor's appointment in February (with the oncologist) and there are blood tests for that, too, and although they don't check for the exact things, they still do check for things like cholesterol and that day's blood sugar and so forth. So, I can only cheat over Christmas!
Yes, I was pleasantly surprised that the cost of the tree trimming stayed the same! I was expecting it to be at least a couple of hundred dollars more! The first time, it was $400; then, it went up to $800 and I was expecting I'd be told $1,000 or even $1,200. I budgeted $50 per month for 2 years; now I have a bit extra to splurge on some garden plants, in the spring! :)
Yes, I got a small fries with the burger and they were not worth the $2.79 I paid for them! They were limp and not very tasty; also, I forgot to request ketchup for them (I was not asked if I wanted any ketchup) so I was doubly disappointed!
