Sunday

Anthurium Plant

Another sunny and mild December day.  I did my 30 minutes of walking, in two sessions, one in the late morning and one in the early evening.  The second walk might have lasted a bit longer than 15 minutes, because after I had walked for several minutes, I looked at the timer and noticed that I had accidentally paused it only a few seconds after I had started it!  There was still 14+ minutes left to go and I walked those 14+ minutes as well.

I put away some laundry I had done earlier, cleaned the litter box and swept the bathroom, gave Dancer his medications, and took another look at my budget, but, otherwise, it was another fairly relaxed day, doing a bit of reading, watching some online videos, emailing friends, and watching TV.  I even took a short nap!

Brunch was leftover milkrice with the leftover turkey curry (it was better, today, having had a chance to a+bsorb some of the spices overnight in the fridge) and dinner was battered shrimp with tomato chutney.  Not a very healthy dinner and no vegetables in sight!  I need to make a better meal plan for next week!

Today, I am grateful for:
- Another sunny and mild day
- Getting my two walks in
- Emails from friends
- A relaxed day
- Afternoon naps

Today's joyful activity was video chatting with my daughter.

Plans for tomorrow include calling and scheduling some appointments, meal planning, another load of laundry, taking the trash cans to the curb, and dusting/vacuuming the living room and dining area.

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday?

  1. You Anthurium looks very healthy - such vibrant red petals. Online Advent calendars can be such fun, how kind of your friend to gift you. Afternoon naps can be so refreshing, cats are perfect role models for that (col).

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou; I've been moving the anthurium to get some sun light through the dining room window during the day - the rest of the time, it's being displayed on the living room mantelpiece. I am having too much fun with this advent calendar! I've been decorating cookies, playing games, and doing flower arrangements to my heart's content and I haven't even got to the jigsaw puzzles, yet! :D
Cats are master nap takers, aren't they? :D

  2. Your plant is lovely, I had to look them up when you mentioned you'd bought one.
It is very cold here and so it was a day spent indoors for me yesterday but I had a visitor call bringing Christmas cards and I must start writing mine out today although I have more to buy.

    1. Thank you, Eileen; I've been making sure that the anthurium plant gets some sunlight, every day, moving it to the dining table during the day time and setting it back in the living room in the evenings. :)
Staying indoors and writing Christmas cards sounds like a lovely way to spend the day when it is cold outside. I still haven't got started on mine, although I keep saying I need to!

    1. I think I'm having too many relaxed days, recently, but, then, I tell myself it's OK because I'm retired! LOL.

  4. Well done on the walking. The anthurium is very attractive and a nice change from a poinsettia. I have an old poinsettia that turned red after Christmas last year. I had kept it because I love the leaves even without the red ones. It grew leggy and in summer a chipmunk sneaked in the house and climbed on it, bending down the branches. It is now an interesting shape and already there is some red on some of the leaves. The light only goes on in the dining room when we are actually having supper, so it is getting plenty of low light to encourage the red leaves.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I think it's great that you are able to keep the poinsettia growing! It obviously likes the environment in your dining room. I'm sure it will look lovely this Christmas.

    1. Thank you, Celie; I am not sure if I will plant it outside - if I do, it will have to be in a container that can be brought indoors during the winter - they can't tolerate temperatures lower than 60F and night time temperatures right now are in the 40s.

  6. It's good that you're managing to get out and do a walk. I think keeping moving helps mental health and physical health.

    1. Thank you, Lyssa. I need to get it out of the red paper and into a proper planter.

  8. And there the plant is lol
I've seen that plant but never knew the name. Are the blooms sort of waxy?
Will this be a house plant for you?
I think you can count the tomatoes in your tomato chutney as a vegetable. ;).

    1. Yes! The blooms are actually spathes, but, they are waxy. I think this will be a house plant; it can't tolerate temperatures lower than 60F and it gets colder than that outside, right now. We'll see if it lasts until the summer and then, decide if I want to take it outside or not (I read that the leaves can get burned in the hot sun, so, I'll have to keep it in a shady spot).
Ha, ha, yes! Didn't the federal government classify ketchup as a vegetable for school lunches during the 1980s? :)
