Another Rainy Day on Thursday

Knit Hat

It has poured with rain all day, today!  We are having another 'atmospheric river' flowing through our region, apparently!  I heard on the news that some areas have received over 5 inches of rain - that is more rain than we had all year not that long ago!  In 2020-2021, for example (our rain "year" is from July 1 to June 30), we had 4.85 inches of rain, total.  The average annual rain fall is 15 inches.

Daughter and I had a very relaxed day, today.  I finished knitting a hat to be given as a Christmas gift.  Gardener friend M lost his knitted hat a couple of weeks ago and he had asked me to look around my garden to see if I could find it, but, it wasn't in my yard.  He might have lost it in a different yard, too, but, the last time I asked him, he hadn't found it.  So, I thought I should knit him a hat.  I considered adding a bobble to the top, but, decided against it.

We had hot dogs for brunch, today and for dinner, I cooked a chicken curry and green beans, while daughter put the rice to boil.  Fresh pineapple for dessert, afterwards.

Today, I am grateful for:

- More rain for the garden
- A snug roof!
- A warm house
- Working appliances
- Spending a relaxed day at home

Today's joyful activity was knitting.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

    1. It's called a mock cable rib, Angela. Cast on multiples of 4 plus 2 stitches, 1st row (wrong side) knit 2 purl 2 rib; 2nd row (right side), purl 2 stitches, knit two stitches together, leave stitches on the left needle, insert the right needle between the two knitted together stitches and knit into the first stitch, again, and slide the stiches off the left needle, and repeat. 3rd row (wrong side) - knit 2 purl 2 rib; 4th row (right side) - purl 2 knit 2 rib. These 4 rows are repeated until you get the length you need. It makes for a very stretchy knit fabric, and is my favorite rib on sweaters, etc.

  2. That is a lovely warm hat and I'm sure M will be delighted with it.
It's cold and sunny and there are "diamonds" sparkling on the snow, and here and there on tree branches!

  4. M will appreciate the hat. I don't really know M, but I think it would rather have the hat plain than to have a bobble on top.

    1. Thank you, June. Yes, I think he'll prefer this version without a bobble on top! Besides, the bobbles I make tend to fall apart when washed in a washing machine! I don't tie them tightly enough, I guess.

    1. Thank you, Sharon; I hope the hat will fit! I had to sort of guess the size!
Yes, it's a lot of rain for us, but, we really need the rain.

  6. That hat looks amazing. I'm sure that M will be thrilled to have such a thoughtful gift.

I hope that the rain helps your garden. I googled and found that the average rainfall in Leeds is around 26 inches a year but that's on the low side for the UK. It keeps Gladys going.

    1. Thank you, Lyssa; I hope M likes the hat and will wear it.
The rain will definitely help the garden! It'll help the weeds, too, but, that can't be helped. You get quite a bit of rain, over there! Last year, we received about 27 inches of rain in my area (28 inches in downtown Los Angeles), which caused a lot of flooding and mudslides in some areas!

  7. Just like Angela, I love the pattern you've used for the hat. I might take a look at it myself, as I want to make an ear warmer with some leftover yarn I've got.
We've had a lot of rain here as well. I'm fed up of it. Xx

    1. Thank you, Jules; the knit pattern is very easy and stretches as needed. After four days of rain, I was getting a little tired of it, myself! :) But, the garden needed it!

  8. I'm sure M will be very happy with his hat. How thoughtful you are to make him one. Great color too.
And you got more rain. I'm so glad. The ground is storing it up for when it needs it.

    1. Thank you, Debra; I thought it was a safe color! The rain has been a blessing! Hopefully we had enough to soak right down to the tree roots!
