No Rain on Wednesday

Day 12: Forget
Nova from the game Amnesia World
A spirit who lost his memories

No rain on Wednesday, only morning clouds and lightning and thunder in the distance.  I guess it rained somewhere else a bit north of me.

I went to bed around 4:00 a.m. Wednesday morning and got up at 11:00 a.m.  Then, it was a bit of a rush to get dressed and unlock the gate for M who was on his way to tend to the garden.  I took some trash to the trash can and untangled a couple of vines from the passionfruit vine that were trying to latch on to the curry leaf tree nearby - those tendrils grip very tightly!  Most of the flowers on the passionfruit vine had withered and fallen off, but, there were three or four that had got pollinated and were setting fruit!

A short time later, M arrived and I went outside to chat with him.  But, after a few minutes, I felt kind of weird and needed to sit down!  I think either my blood pressure was low or my blood sugar was low!  M was very concerned, but, I felt better after a few minutes of resting; I drank some lemon-lime soda to get a quick sugar fix and ate some papaya afterwards.  I felt fine after that.

In the afternoon, I cleared the dining table, polished it, and dusted the dining room furniture and started on the family room furniture (but, didn't finish dusting the family room).  I also cleaned the litter box and swept the bathroom.  Then, I unpicked a row of machine sewing I had done on one side of the quilt because it had caused the border on that side to get all puckered and I didn't want that!

Later in the evening, I wished my cousin's twin daughters for their birthday, chatted with another family member who lives in Australia, but, who was visiting a niece in Chicago, and chatted with friend R.  Still later, I video chatted with my daughter.   There had been another shooting (which resulted in yet another death, bringing the city's homicide count for this year to 102 ) near her office, today; not quite as close to her office as the previous shooting, but, close enough!  We are both glad she worked from her apartment today and she said she will probably work from home, tomorrow, too.  Safety was one of the concerns we had when the office moved from downtown Berkeley to downtown Oakland.

Today, I am grateful for:
- I felt fine after that initial odd spell in the morning
- My daughter is safe, unhurt, and unharmed
- M tending to the garden
- Little passionfruits forming on the vine
- Chats with family and friends

Today's joyful activity was watching some online videos.

Plans for Thursday include tidying up the family room and dusting.

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?

  1. I hope you continue to feel better now and your dizzy spell was just due to needing food or water. Be careful and take good care. How scary for your daughter! Is Oakland more dangerous than Berkeley? I'm sure she's very careful, and takes precautions. Of course it's worrisome, but she sounds very sensible.

    1. Thank you, Celie; I might have stood up too quickly when M arrived and my pressure might have changed. I was fine, afterwards.
Oakland has a reputation for being a high crime area, much more so than Berkeley. Daughter is usually very aware of her surroundings, especially when she's walking to and from the bus stop and waiting for the bus, etc., but, there's only so much one can do during certain situations, especially if there are bullets flying!

  2. Your daughter is very talented. Probably wise to work from home for a few days while things calm down. Hopefully that quick thinking of boosting your blood sugar was all that you needed.

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou; yes, she's working from home today and tomorrow, too. I usually keep some orange juice or apple juice in the fridge, but, this time, I didn't have any juice, so it had to be some Sprite. I was fine, afterwards. :)

  3. I'm glad you didn't keel over when you felt shaky. I occasionally get these feelings and often resort to a spoonful of peanut butter if I am at home. I've had the occasional shaky feeling for years, probably need to eat protein at breakfast time.
The shootings must be a concern. I'm glad your daughter has the opportunity to work from the apartment.
I would be more than happy to send you some rain, as a look at the forecast this morning showed rain and even a bit of snow for the next 2 weeks! Yikes!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; that's what I was afraid of, that I might faint! Oh, I must remember the spoon of peanut butter! It's a good idea to have some protein, too. I also need to get some juice to keep on hand.
Yes, the shootings near her new office are a concern; I'm very thankful that she has the option of working from her apartment.
Oh, my, rain and SNOW in the forecast! Winter does arrive early in Canada, doesn't it? I'll send you some of our warmer weather (79F and hazy, right now, but, supposed to go up to 82F later) in exchange for some rain! But, no snow, please! :D

  4. I hope you don't have any more if those funny turns and you did the best thing in having a sugar fix and sit down. Very worrying those shootings, so glad your daughter is safe and working from home.
I go to have my flu jab tomorrow, my husband had the Covid and flu jabs together on Monday and was quite ill on Tuesday. I'm hoping i will be fine having the flu jab separate from the Covid jab, fingers crossed.

    1. Thank you, Eileen; usually, my morning cup of tea provides all the sugar I need, but, I guess it was different, yesterday!
The shootings are very worrying; in fact, apparently, the mayor of the city and the state senators were all in a meeting, along with other civic leaders, to discuss the state of violence in that city, yesterday, and there was one other shooting, later in the night (victim is expected to survive) and another person was killed in some sort of attack! I'm very thankful that my daughter is able to work from home, but, eventually, I expect she will be required to return to the office most days.
Oh, I hope your flu jab will go well and you will not feel too many side effects, afterwards. It's better to take the vaccines separately, I think. Take a Panadol afterwards, if you need to.

  5. Maybe the funny turn was to do with the rush to get ready for M ... did you have any breakfast before he arrived?

I'm glad that your daughter wasn't affected by the shooting. It doesn't sound like a very nice area so I'm glad she is able to take advantage of working from home where she knows she is safe. I love her drawing today.

    1. Yes, it might have been due to rushing about after oversleeping! I had my morning cup of tea, but, had not had any breakfast yet. Usually, the tea is sufficient. Today, I had a slice of toast with peanut butter, as well as my morning tea. :)
I'm very thankful that my daughter can work from home and not go into her office as often. Thank you; I've no idea who half these characters are that she draws! :D

  6. It must always be such a worry when you hear of another shooting.
I'm glad you're feeling better, but please be mindful not to overdo things. Rest up as much as you can. Xx

    1. Yes, Jules, it is a worry. Apparently, there was another shooting, later on, with someone shot in the face through the car windscreen (but he is expected to survive) and another person was also attacked and killed in a residential area. I always worry when my daughter waits for the bus in the evenings after her acrobatics classes, until she texts or calls me to say she's back in her apartment!
I'm feeling better, now, thank you. I'm taking it easy. :)

  8. I'm glad your dizziness passed relatively quick. It's good you were able to sit down quickly and not collapse on the ground!

It's just terrible how unsafe some areas have become and continue to be in this country. I'm sorry it's become a concern in your daughter's life.

    1. Thank you, Debra; I'm glad I was able to recognize that something was not quite right and I needed to sit down, rather than try to brush it aside. "An ounce of prevention" and all that! :D
Yes, crime is a concern everywhere, these days, isn't it? I pray for my daughter's safety, every day; that's all I can do!

  9. That dizzy spell must have been so worrying! I am glad that you weren't alone when it happened and that you are surrounded by good neighbours. And it is such a relief that your daughter is safe. Sending hugs and good vibes.

  10. Aren't you the busy bee! I need to do some actual furniture polishing - that seems to be pre-winter chore that I have neglected for a couple of years, and it is beginning to show on some of the cabinets and armoires.

It was good that M was around when you were feeling a bit off. Glad it passed quickly.

    1. Thank you, Susanne. The majority of my furniture is particle board/veneered stuff, but, they serve their purpose. :)
Yes, it was good that M was around that day, when I felt off, just in case some help was needed. Luckily, I was fine after I rested for a bit.
