Almost Mid-July?

The Birthday Card I Made

How can it be almost mid-July?  The days are going by too fast!

Thursday was a rather relaxed day.  I slept in because I felt tired when I first woke up!  So, turned off the porch lights, fed the cats, and went back to bed for another hour or so.  Which is fine, except the morning is mostly gone by then!

In the afternoon, I visited friend R to wish her for her birthday and to give her the gift I had got for her as well as a bag of lemons and a bunch of curry leaves to share with some of her friends.  It was a curb-side visit with both of us wearing our masks (our new Covid case numbers topped 8,500 today, and hospitalization amounted to over 1,200; there is talk of bringing back the indoor mask mandate by the end of the month if things continue this way).  R called me later to say she shared the lemons with two of her friends.  I told her I can bring her more, later!

I spent the rest of the day watching online videos, news, checking on various family members and friends, and taking it easy!  I did walk in the driveway for 15 minutes, chatted a bit with neighbor S's daughters from across the street, and did a spot of weeding in the front garden.  I noticed that the neighbors next door had planted two loquat seedlings - one on their parkway and one near the entrance to their driveway, but, on my section of the parkway!  I am not going to say anything; loquat trees are fruit bearing trees and if they plant a fruit tree in my parkway, then, I get to enjoy the fruit, right?  LOL.  The last time they planted a tree there, it died because no one watered it!  Later, I cleaned the litter box and swept the bathroom.

On Thursday, I was grateful for:

- Being able to visit friend R to wish her for her birthday
- Being able to share some lemons with her
- Fresh lemonade
- Video chatting with my daughter
- A relaxed day

Thursday's joyful activity was the curbside visit with R.

Plans for Friday include doing some housework and tending to the garden with M.

What are your plans for Friday?

  1. What a pretty card! My plans for today are not very exciting. I'm going to work.

    1. Thank you, June. R had been admiring a tiered cake decorated with a cascade of flowers that someone had made and that gave me the idea for the card. :) I hope you have a very good day at work and have a lovely weekend to look forward to. :)

  2. Sleeping in late is what happens in my house, except not me but my husband. I just leave him to get up when he's ready and i enjoy the quiet time by myself :) I would think you're right that the the fruit would be yours if the tree is on your land. The birthday card you made is lovely.

    1. Part of me would like to wake up very early in the morning, but, in order to do so, I need to get myself to bed earlier and that's my problem, because the other part of me wants to stay up till the wee hours! Guess which part usually wins? :D As a result, what happens is, I wake up around 6:30 a.m. or so, turn the porch lights off (they are not on a timer) and realize that I've only had about 3 hours of sleep, so go back to bed for another 3 hrs. or so of sleep!
Thank you; the card was inspired by a picture of a cake someone had made which my friend admired. :)

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou; my friend sent me a picture of a tiered cake someone had made, which had flowers cascading down it and that inspired the card design! Happy Weekend to you, too! :)

  4. That is such a pretty card you made for friend R. I hope she had a nice day. I'm sure she will enjoy those lemons as will her friends.
Yes, it seems covid is increasing again everywhere isn't it?
How is your daughter's office doing? I know you said they reinstated the mask mandate and cut back on the in-office hours.

    1. Thank you, Debra; the card is based on a photo of a cake R had admired and shared with me!
My daughter's office is still open, but, only a few people go in on any given day. Both my daughter's supervisor and the girl my daughter supervises came down with the virus! My daughter goes in one day a week and works from her apartment the rest of the time. The numbers up there are lower than down here.

  5. I like the birthday card you made and also that you were able to arrange a kerbside with R. Our Covid numbers are continuing to rise and it seems that there will be another round of booster vaccines in the autumn. There seems to be no end to it.

I spent the afternoon with J, measuring the dining room and ordering my new units.

Sounds like you had a fun afternoon and I hope your new units will be delivered soon! Have a lovely weekend!

  6. That is such a pretty and joyful birthday card! How lovely to have a curbside visit with R. (my laptop changed "curbside" to "curtsied" so perhaps you greeted her like royalty!)
We haven't been sleeping in, since we had to be on a bus at 8.30 am but breakfast was in the hotel and lunch was outside a farm building and I didn't have to make either or clean up. I confess I have been eating extremely well, including more goodies than I would normally indulge in!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I like how the card turned out. :)
Sounds like you are having a lovely trip, even if it means an early start to the day. Enjoy not having to prepare meals or clean up after for as long as it lasts! :)

  8. Greetings from the future! It's the end of 15th here, definitely mid-July! It's St Swithin's day. If it had rained today, they say it would have rained for 40 days and nights. But as it was dry, 40 days of fair weather can be expected. In fact everywhere around here is already very dry and temperatures are forecast to reach 40C on Monday and Tuesday - the first time the UK will ever have experienced such heat. I suppose it sounds ridiculous to you but we are being warned about the possible ramifications and getting advice on what to do and not. Most homes don't have air conditioning of course. The railway lines are being painted white to reflect the sun, in an effort to prevent them getting too hot and buckling, and extra speed limits will be in force just in case. The RAC is gearing up for extra breakdowns too. The heat is coming from mainland Europe, where France, Spain, Portugal have experienced terrible wild fires. I'm hoping the woods near me don't go up in smoke and take me with them! As to Covid, rates around here are now 1/15 people, yet there hasn't been so much as a whisper of advice to take extra precautions. I think I'll go and buy a big vat of ice cream tomorrow, then stay barricaded at home till autumn!

    1. You've mastered time travel! 40C is definitely a heatwave, even for us! It's not ridiculous at all as that kind of heat, especially if it is humid, can cause some serious damage and health concerns, especially with the elderly. Oh, I do hope the woods near you do not go up in smoke and take you with them! I like the idea of a vat of ice cream, but, I hope you will be able to venture out before autumn!

    2. Funnily enough, there has been no mention of how to care for plants and prevent pre-baked courgettes and tomatoes! It's almost as if no-one has even thought of it!

    3. Probably no one did! After all, these types of heat waves are new to the UK, aren't they? Give your plants plenty of water and shade them, if possible, from direct sun on the hottest days. Hopefully, that will prevent them from getting scorched!

    4. I was only joking. Sarcasm really, based on the amount of airtime that has been devoted to the matter.

I think you are wise to be cautious. I believe Covid cases are increasing here as well and several people I know have been quite poorly with it. X

Yes, I need to be cautious with all my health issues! Besides, I don't want to be sick! Even the common cold knocks me off my feet when I get it!

    1. LOL, my gardener M thought it was the height of cheek for them to plant anything in my side of the parkway; he uprooted the plant and potted it up! It's in my backyard, right now, with the other two loquat plants that I'm trying to grow!
