Ending June

Prebaked Zucchini

The zucchini plants had about six baby zucchini growing when we reached 100F on Monday; it has been only slightly cooler after that and all the baby zucchini look like this; scorched and prebaked by the sun!  Of course summer is only beginning and there is still time for more zucchini to grow...except, summer is only beginning and we haven't reached our usual summer temperatures of 100F plus, yet.  I don't think the zucchini harvest will amount to much, this year.  But, I have read that zucchini leaves are edible and I found a recipe online for sauteed zucchini leaves!  Maybe once I've finished harvesting the broccoli leaves, I can move on to the zucchini leaves!

This week went by quickly, I feel!  I resumed my weekly cleaning routines this week after taking a week off the previous week.  On Monday, I dusted the living room and dining area; on Tuesday, I tidied and dusted the family room.  I didn't dust my bedroom on Tuesday, however, so did that, on Wednesday, instead.  I didn't vacuum as scheduled on Wednesday, however, as I had a pain in my left leg and I didn't want to aggravate it by vacuuming.  Instead, on Thursday, I vacuumed and then, did Thursday's cleaning, as well, which was cleaning the kitchen.  I also did a load of laundry, including the kitchen rug, bathroom rugs, Dancer's quilted rug, etc.   All that's left to do is clean the bathrooms on Friday and the week's routine cleaning will be done!  I will still need to do a bit of extra tidying in the bedroom, however, since that is my room to focus on, this week.

And, just like that, June has come to an end and with it, the first half of the year!  June was a good month and the highlight of the month was my daughter's visit!

Now, we get to look forward to starting July and the second half of this year, but, that's a separate post!

Today, I am grateful for:

- My leg pain went away without worsening
- Working appliances and electricity to run them
- Receiving packages in the mail (vacuum cleaner bags that I ordered)
- Phone chats with friends A and R
- Video chats with my daughter

Today's joyful activity was watching online videos.

Plans for tomorrow include:

- Cleaning the bathrooms
- Tending to the garden with M
- Tidying the top of my dresser
- Tidying the top of my desk

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. We got our first zucchini this week and there are several yellow squash that should be ready soon. You'll have to let us know how the squash leaves turn out.

    1. Glad you were able to pick your first zucchini! I noticed new flowers on the zucchini plants and I'm hoping I'll get some new zucchini which will not get scorched! I'll share how the zucchini leaves turn out, if I ever cook them! :)

    1. I saw some new zucchini flowers on the plants, this morning; I'm hopeful that they will produce some zucchini which will not get scorched! M selected a variety of zucchini that have fewer leaves to minimize the chance of the squash hiding under the leaves and growing to mammoth size, but, the fewer leaves means less shade/more sun exposure for the squash...
Yes, I did make up for it in broccoli, didn't I? :D

  3. I think this week has flown by as well. I somehow blinked and now it's Friday ... how did that happen? You've had a productive week and have done well to catch up with your schedule.

I've had a very social day, trying out the new-to-me Ladies That Lunch meal. It was a great success and a definite in my diary from now on. Since then I've mainly been chatting with my sister and trying to sort out my diary which is getting very busy, but in a good way!

  4. I'm glad your leg recovered. You were smart to rest it. Does Dancer complain when his quilted rug gets whisked away and put into the washer?
We have been invited to a barbecue for Canada Day (Friday) and I will be taking a salad. Unfortunately the weather is dreadful this year and although the rain stopped for a while, the forecast is not great. So we may well end up indoors. At least we have had our booster shot. I'm hoping, though, that all will clear up by late afternoon!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; prior to my experience with sciatica, I wouldn't have paid much attention to the leg pain and would have just dismissed it, but, now, I am being very careful not to aggravate anything! Dancer doesn't mind about his rug being taken away to wash because I put down an old towel for his use when his rug is being washed and dried. :D Oh, he is very well catered to, indeed! :D
Happy Canada Day, Bushlady! I hope the weather will be clear and warm so you can enjoy your barbecue and be outdoors! :)

  5. Your poor plants getting baked like that. You are back in your routine for housework but I'm sure you'd rather have some more time with your daughter. I'm glad your leg pain didn't get any worse.

    1. Planting a garden is a bit of a gamble, here, because we never know when the heat waves hit! Last year, it stayed cooler for a longer time and the garden produce had time to grow before the scorching heat arrived. This year, the plants got off to a slower start and it got hot sooner. More time spent with my daughter would have been great, but, one makes the best of the situation and I'm happy to get back to my routines. :)

    1. Yes, the days are whizzing by, aren't they? Thank you, Jules; the leg pain went away. I'm wondering if I might have been a bit dehydrated; it's been a warm week and I might not have drunk enough water.

  7. You tidied your house well as the June days slipped away into July.
Routines are good and it's good to get back to yours. Even when you skipped something scheduled, you did well to add it the next day.

Those poor little zucchinis look like goners. I see you have some new flowers. Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate.

    1. Thank you, Debra. The trick is keeping up with things. I'm still not very good about putting things back after use, but, I'm working on it!
I think those zucchinis are only good for the compost pile! There are some new ones forming and this week is supposed to be relatively cool (only in the low to mid 80s), so, I'm hopeful that I'll have some zucchini to harvest in another week or so. :)
