Friday

Passionfruit Changed Color!

The passionfruit, which looked yellowish green, yesterday, had a rosy tinge, today!  M thought I should wait until it turned wrinkly before I cut it, so, I've left it on the counter to continue ripening.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind comments on yesterday's post, and being so understanding about the near computer scam!

Friday has been a good day, a nice mixture of being productive and relaxed!  I changed the sofa dust sheets, did a load of laundry, cleaned the bathrooms, tightened the screws on the toilet seats which had become a bit loose and wobbly, cleaned the litter box, had gardener M spray the area around the front entrance and the back patio with flea spray (this is a bit of a summer ritual with the garden cats around; Dancer gets his flea prevention medications every month, but, the garden cats are another story), cooked, and did the dishes.  In between, I played some online games, watched the news, read some news stories, and, did I mention I played some online games?  LOL!

Neighbor T's daughter called me in the morning and we chatted for a bit - she called to let me know that her mother will be having some construction done at her house, later this month, and to expect it to be a bit noisy!  I appreciated her letting me know.  In the evening, friend R called and we chatted for a bit, and, still later, I video chatted with my daughter.

M was here to tend to the garden in the evening.  He sprayed the flea spray and watered the garden for me.  He also picked up a bag of fruit tree fertilizer and the paving stones I wanted for the front parkway!  We will get started on that project, this month!  They are grey cement pavers, 24-inches square.  I had him pick up seven of them for me - we will space them out along the parkway and fill in the gaps with bark mulch.

Today, I am grateful for:
- M picking up the paving stones for me
- Daughter ordering the flea spray for me and having it delivered so I didn't have to go to the pet store to buy them
- M spraying the flea spray around the garden for me
- Electricity and working appliances
- Food - having enough to eat; not a luxury that is available to all

Today's joyful activity was video chatting with my daughter.

Plans for tomorrow include organizing the linen closet!

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for Saturday and the weekend?

  1. I agree you need to let the passion fruit go wrinkly before cutting it. I need to give Tilly her worming tablets and flea treatment this weekend, you have reminded me. Ah the garden cats, now I understand why you don't hang out your washing because of fleas. We're having a heat wave this weekend so I've taken the opportunity to was the sofa covers so they'll dry quickly.

    1. I'm looking forward to eating the passion fruit. :)
Yes, the garden cats (or, rather, their fleas) are the reason I don't hang the laundry out in the garden! I used to, but, not anymore!
Very resourceful of you to take advantage of the heat wave to wash the sofa covers! It's 88F (31C), here, right now; I think our high is supposed to be 90F (32C). But, that's just regular summer temperature and not a heat wave for us. :)

  2. Although I've seen passion fruit in the grocery store, I don't know much about it except it needs warm weather to grow. Probably the reason I don't know much about it. Do you more fruit on the vine?

    1. Yes, I have a few more fruits on the vine; they are all still quite green in appearance. The fruits are supposed to fall off the vine when they are ripe, but, the one I picked up didn't look ripe enough to have fallen off naturally. This is a relatively young vine (planted last year) and it's the first time I'm growing passion fruits. so, I'm learning as I go along. :)

  3. I like days like that where there's a good balance between household tasks and fun things.

I spent this morning working outside until the heat got to me and I came back indoors. I've watched the Wimbledon ladies singles final and am now watching the men's doubles match. All in all it's been a bit of a lazy day.

    1. They are the best kind of days, aren't they? Sounds like you are having a good day, too, with some yard work in the morning and tennis in the afternoon/evening. :) A very pleasant way to spend a Saturday, I think. :)

  4. I don't think I've ever tried passion fruit. Can I assume it's very sweet? I did get some work to do, keeping track of some grant budgets, about 6 hrs a week. Then a local charity called me, asking if I could help an elderly woman, in her 90s, sort mail and papers twice a week. I said yes. So now I feel better about getting out and about more! Thank you for asking.

    1. Passion fruit tends to be sweet and tangy. I'm glad you found a couple of things to do, to get you out of the house and you will be helping someone, too. :)

  5. We have one area of our front yard where nothing grows well. We are putting pavers then planting mondo grass between them (with our fingers crossed that it will grow).

    1. That sounds like a good way to landscape that area in your front yard, Anne. I thought of planting some succulents in the parkway, but, I think the pavers and mulch will be the more water conserving way to go for me. :)

  6. I can see it wouldn't be fun to find fleas on your laundry. Thank goodness we don't have that problem here, but once in a while a bird will see fit to drop a little gift and occasionally I might find a wee spider or some other little critter on something, so I have to check.
I did some grocery shopping today to prepare for the visit of DS and family tomorrow for a couple of nights. I'm hoping the good weather continues, in the daytime at least.

    1. I'm being extra careful ever since Dancer had a flea infestation, several years ago. He even had to be treated for tapeworms as a result! It's better for me to hang the laundry inside the house to dry (it dries very quickly) or use the dryer! Also, the clotheslines in the garden used to be used as a highway by ants! I used to have them on my dried laundry and that was another nuisance!
Oh, how lovely to have another visit from DS and family to look forward to! Almost makes up for those much postponed visits over the holidays, doesn't it? I hope you enjoy some lovely weather during the visit.

  7. I remember that year you had a real problem with the fleas indoors.
It's wise to take precautions and spray a barrier at the entrance to your home.
The fruit trees will enjoy their new food. And your parkway area is getting closer to it's revamp.
You had a good day balancing enjoyable things along with your chores.

    1. Yes, I don't want to have to deal with another flea infestation inside the house! Taking the steps to prevent that from happening again!
I hope the fruit trees will appreciate the fertilizer. It cost $20 for the bag (I forgot to check how many lbs. in the bag, but, it wasn't a big bag). It's something that M uses for his fruit trees, too.
I did have a nicely balanced day, didn't I? I hope you did, too. :)

  8. You have been incredibly busy. Flea spray is so important. I can imagine that Dancer would be appalled to find himself affected because of the garden cats!

    1. Yes, Dancer had a flea infestation one year and it was awful! I was doing laundry and vacuuming every day, after I came home from work, in an attempt to get rid of them and their eggs, etc. I had the energy to do so, back then! I doubt if I could keep up, now!
