Do You See What I See?

Early Girl Tomato

It was M who spotted the teeny tiny tomato, about the size of a green pea, today!  But, I got all excited about it!  I guess the tomato plant (Early Girl) is living up to its name!  I do hope that there will be more tomatoes to follow!

Meanwhile, in the front garden, we have:

Pomegranate Flowers

Pomegranate Flowers

But, no baby pomegranates, yet.

No potatoes, yet, either, but, the sprouting potato I planted in a pot seems to be coming along, nicely:

Potato Plant

Daughter had as restful a night as she could have had with a painful jaw.  I stayed up till after 3:00 a.m., partly to keep an eye on her, while she slept, then went to bed.  I heard her get up at 7:30 a.m. to take her next dose of antibiotics and pain medication, but, I didn't get out of bed and fell back asleep.  She, too, had gone back to sleep and was still sleeping when I woke up later in the morning.  I let her sleep in as sleep helps with the healing.  She is feeling a lot better, today, but, still not fully recovered, of course.  She has a new video game to play, so she's entertaining herself with it while she recovers from the extraction.

It was another warm day, today, with a daytime high of 94F.  I walked around the garden a bit in the early afternoon to check on the plants.  Even though I had watered the back garden, yesterday evening, some of the plants were drooping!  The garden cats were hiding in their cool spots and I watched a little sparrow hopping around the yard with its beak open due to the heat!

M came to tend to the garden in the early evening.  He applied fertilizer to the citrus trees, weeded around the tomato plants, and watered the back yard.  After he left, I weeded a little more and watered the front garden.

When I went out to water the front, I saw another bunny!  A little smaller than the white one and a light brown color.  I didn't have my cell phone with me to take a picture (in any case, it was a bit dark by then), but, I hope I'll see it again during the day time to take a picture.

Afterwards, I practiced the piano and then, made what I called "curry soup" for my daughter for dinner (blended rice, fish curry, and a little chicken stock); she called it Sri Lankan baby food!  LOL.  Earlier, I had blended garbanzo beans (chick peas) with chicken stock, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper for her breakfast and rice, ground beef, corn, and chicken stock for lunch.  I also made another batch of "whipped potatoes" and there is ice cream, etc., as well.  Tomorrow, we will do some fruit smoothies.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter seems to be recovering nicely
- Another sunny and warm day
- Baby tomatoes!
- M tending to the garden
- Phone calls from family and friends

Today's joyful activity was gardening.

And just like that, the month of April comes to an end!

Plans for tomorrow include more weeding and maybe some housekeeping (laundry, etc.)

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. The first sign of any fruit is vegetable is always so exciting. I gave my son a planter and with a tomato and pepper plant for his birthday and he's excited that he's seen his first tomato blossom.

The pomegranate flower is very pretty. I don't think I've seen one before.

    1. Yes, it is exciting to discover the first flowers and fruits, etc. The planter with vegetable plants is a wonderful birthday gift idea! I hope there will be lots of tomatoes and peppers for him to pick over the summer!

The pomegranate flowers are so pretty, the fruits are almost a bonus!

  2. Cute little tomato! Hope it gets some friends soon.

It's good to hear that your daughter is recovering well and enjoying her video game and Sri Lankan baby food!

It sounds like news of your hospitality is spreading in the bunny world. I hope the cats don't get jealous x

    1. Oh, I hope the little tomato is soon joined by others!

Yes, my daughter is recovering well, thank you.

Ha, ha, I hope the bunnies don't discover that I have two carrots growing in my vegetable plot! :D As for the cats getting jealous, one of them (Snowball) has been taking to sitting in the front garden flower bed, recently...I wonder if she is trying to pretend to be a bunny?

I am glad your daughter is recovering nicely and happy she is with Mama who can make her soft foods and who made sure ice cream was around.
Where one tiny tomato comes others will follow!

    1. Thank you, Anne; yes, this is the best time to have this extraction done, while she's home with me so I could fuss over her! :D

I am hoping that I'll be able to harvest more than the 5 or 6 tomatoes I harvested, last year, from my one volunteer tomato plant! :D

    1. Thank you, Jean. This is my first year growing an Early Girl; I've a Roma tomato plant, too. Just one of each, but, I'm hopeful to have several tomatoes from each plant!

  6. Sorry to hear your daughter has been suffering with her extractions. You are right to let her sleep and heal that way.
It's always a little joy to find a new fruit or bud in the garden, isn't it? I think I'd want to grow pomegranates even just for those gorgeous flowers. I wonder how the garden cats get on with the bunnies that show up from time to time?
It was pretty cold this morning but no more snow and the temperature is going up with the sun out today.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; daughter is recovering nicely.

I get all excited when I see things flowering and fruiting! Yes, the pomegranate plant is worth growing if only for the flowers! The tree is looking very pretty, right now, with several flowers. I think the cats think the bunnies are another type of cat, just like the possums! :D

Glad to hear that there's no more snow, especially since it is now May! Hope you have a love weekend, Bushlady.

  8. Wow that's a hot day! Fresh tomatoes. Yum. I hope nothing gets to eat it before you. The deer here usually eat all of mine before they even start to turn red!

  9. Fun!
I love the little tomato and hope it's a sign of what's to come.

The pomegranate flower is such a beautiful color.
That's a nice big pot of potato planting. Is that from one sprouted potato?

I'm glad your daughter is feeling better.

    1. Thank you, Debra.
Yes, it is from one potato. I know you are supposed to cut the potato into pieces, but, I just planted the whole thing. M thinks I should plant it in the ground, but, I'll have to find a spot where I can dig it up to harvest the potatoes without disturbing other plants. I have two more potatoes sprouting in two other pots. Maybe I should plant them among the sweet potatoes!

My daughter is feeling much better, today, thank you. :)
