Easter Bread and Other Treats

Bread with Garlic and Cheese

On Thursday, I baked a couple of loaves of bread using frozen bread dough.  Just prior to baking, I sprinkled the tops with some garlic salt, grated parmesan cheese, and paprika.  Daughter and I enjoyed having some freshly baked bread, warm from the oven.  The second loaf was wrapped up and kept.

When neighbor S called me on Friday morning to say she baked some Armenian Easter bread from scratch and wanted to bring some over for us, I was happy to accept the Easter bread (and a piece of chocolate cake, too!) from her and give her the second loaf of bread that I had baked, in return.

Later on Friday afternoon, friend M came over to tend to the garden and brought us chocolate bunnies!

Chocolate Bunnies

We planted two types of green beans in the new vegetable bed and some zucchini seeds around the peach tree.  I hope the real bunnies from next door don't eat those plants when they come up!

This morning, neighbor S called me again, with an offer of tacos that her daughter had made!  Oh, my!  Yes, I accepted them, gratefully!  Then, daughter and I ate them before I remembered to take a photo!  But, they were delicious!

For tonight's dinner, daughter cooked crab pasta, following a recipe she found online, using imitation crab.  The imitation crab is sauteed with onions, garlic, and Cajun seasoning in oil and butter, while the pasta cooks.  (I don't have any Cajun seasoning, so, she made up her own using ingredients I did have, such as onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, etc.) Then, she made a sauce with a mixture of soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, sugar and water.   She heated more oil, butter, and garlic in the saute pan, added the sauce to it and cooked it to thicken it a bit, then, added the cooked pasta and the imitation crab/onion/garlic mixture.  She made a salad to go with it and it was a wonderful dinner.

Crab (Imitation) Pasta

I'm so grateful for good friends, neighbors, and my daughter; I'm afraid they are spoiling me!

  1. Lots of food happenings at your house!

The dish your daughter made looks delicious. And all of those tasty things from neighbor S (including the cheesecake the other day) - what a week for food gifts.

Happy Easter to you and your daughter.
I am up early ready to make one of those Impossible Pie concoctions for our Easter dessert.
    A coconut custard one.
You whip everything together in the blender (including the flour for the crust) and pour it in the pan and bake it and Voila! It's a pie.
    lol
    Wish me luck.

    1. Yes, it has been a lovely week for food gifts and home cooking, both! I finished the last piece of cheesecake, with some fresh blueberries, last night!

Happy Easter to you and yours, too, Debra. May it be a blessed Easter.

Oh, you have to tell me how the pie turned out! It sounds like something I might like to try! Good luck! :D

    2. I have that recipe too! It's brilliantly easy and very yum.

Happy Easter weekend, Bless. Glad to see you got some Easter treats (of various cultures). Don't let the next door rabbits see you eating their chocolate cousins!

    3. Ha, ha, maybe I should let them see me eat their chocolate cousins! I was hoping they'd leave me an Easter egg or two, but, they left me only some droppings! :o

Hope you've had a good Easter, Lady Ella.

  4. I love Cajun seasoned food and I always mix my own seasoning as well. I will try daughter's recipe but swap crab for whatever happens to be in the freezer - probably prawns.

You've been really spoiled with your edible gifts and I hope you both enjoyed every single mouthful. Enjoy the rest of the Easter holiday together xx

    1. Yes, in fact, last night, we were discussing making this pasta dish again, with shrimp! (Over here, they tend to say shrimp; back in Sri Lanka, we said prawns).

I am being spoiled, aren't I? I think I need to start dieting again, after Easter!

Thank you, Eileen. Happy Easter to you, too.

  5. You can't beat home baked bread, your own or your friend's! By coincidence we had imitation crab too, with mayonnaise in sandwiches for lunch. I was thinking perhaps I should find something else to use it for and now you have given me the answer! Happy Easter!

    1. Home made bread is delicious! Maybe a bit too delicious! LOL. I ate two slices of it, toasted, with butter, this morning and daughter had the last Easter bread. I hope you try the crab pasta and enjoy it. Hope you've had a blessed Easter, Bushlady.
