Grocery Shopping on Wednesday

Garden Visitor: Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta)

This beautiful butterfly visited my garden, yesterday.  I was surprised at how close it let me get to take this picture.

Today we've had a lovely sunny, warm day with a high of 86F.  My kind of weather!

Today, I did another grocery shopping pick up!  We ordered and I picked up: 2 containers of ice cream (1 vanilla, 1 chocolate @ $2.99), instant cups of noodles (@$.49), a package of split peas ($1.69), another half gallon of half and half ($3.99), a box of cream of wheat ($4.99), a smoked sausage ($2.50) to replenish the freezer stock, a bag of egg noodles ($1.19), fresh vegetables (green beans @ $1.99/lb. and tomatoes @ $.99/lb.), fresh fruits (bananas @ $.65/lb., 5 mangoes @$1, and apples @ $1.49/lb.), and a half gallon container of A2 milk (@3.50) for friend R.  In addition to groceries, I bought a couple of health and beauty products for daughter.  The total came to $52.84.

After picking up the groceries, I drove straight to friend R's to give her the milk she wanted and a piece of the sponge cake that I had set aside for her.  Then, came home to put away the groceries (daughter helped to sanitize and put them away).  I cut up and froze three of the bananas and two of the mangoes to make smoothies for my daughter.  I cut up one other mango to make mango pickle for us to snack on, today.

We ate some of the leftover stir-fried shrimp noodles for lunch.  Haven't decided what to have for dinner, but, there is a variety of leftovers in the fridge (just need to cook a little rice, I think).

Plans for rest of the evening include doing some weeding and piano practicing.  The only plan for tomorrow is taking daughter for her teeth extractions.

Today, I am grateful for:

- A sunny, warm day
- Curbside grocery pick up
- A safe drive to the grocery store and back
- A quick curbside visit to see friend R
- Time spent in the garden

Today's joyful activity was being able to present friend R with the milk she wanted and a piece of cake.

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?

  1. What a beautiful butterfly! We had a god day unpacking yesterday. We registered with the doctor last week, and yesterday walked round the corner to collect Bob's medications. Grateful that everything has worked very smoothly, and the transfer to a new medical practice has gone through immediately. Today a man is coming to service our heating boiler which is incredibly noisy. The sun is shining, the sky is blue!

  2. I love your photo of the butterfly.

I wish we had your warmer weather. There's no rain today but it's only about 10°C according to the weather site, so a bit too chilly for my liking. There's heavy rain promised for the rest of the week!

I'm sending healing thoughts for your daughter and wishing her a speedy recovery. xx

    1. I was really surprised at how close the butterfly let me approach it!

I wish I could share some of our warmer weather with you! We are in the 90s, today (but, that might be a bit too warm for you?)

Thank you for your well wishes for my daughter; we are home now and she only had two teeth extracted today. I'll update everyone in today's post!

  3. That's my kind of weather as well! It just a shame, therefore, that I woke up to a frost this morning. It's turned much colder again here.
I hope everything goes well with your daughter's procedure tomorrow. X

    1. Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that you woke up to a frost this morning! Brr! It's another warm day, here! Even warmer than it was yesterday!

Thank you; we are home now and she is recovering. I am keeping her well supplied with ice cream and gelatin! :)

    1. I am surprised at the variety of butterflies visiting my garden; not all of them will pose long enough for me to take a picture, though!

I made "nicecream" with frozen bananas, last year - that was a relatively guilt-free treat during the hot summer. :)

Hope you are able to accomplish all your tasks, today!

  5. Such brilliant color on that butterfly. I saw a yellow swallowtail flitting by yesterday. Good luck to you daughter with her wisdom teeth.

    1. I'm starting to notice the butterflies that are visiting my garden. :)

Thank you, June. The procedure went fairly well, but, we will have to have repeat visit - they pulled only two teeth, this time.

  7. I expect the butterfly was sunning itself. Great photo!
I do hope your daughter's extractions go smoothly and that she recovers quickly.
I was pleased to see that the Trout Lilies are in bloom up the road. I look for them every spring.

    1. The butterfly was either sunning itself or drinking some of the water that got splashed onto the wall (I was watering the back garden, at the time).

Two of the teeth extractions were done, today. The dentist wants her to come back to the other one, in two weeks.

Sounds like spring has arrived if the Trout Lilies are in bloom. It's fun to see which wildflowers are coming up, isn't it? :)

  8. So kind of the red admiral to pose for you! I saw peacocks for the first time this year, on Saturday.

    1. It was very accommodating! I read that they are territorial and will defend their territories from intruding males; apparently, the females will only mate with males that have a territory of his own! I never knew that butterflies had territories they defended against other males!

I don't think I've seen peacock butterflies, here (I assume you meant peacock butterflies and not the birds!)

  9. That's interesting. I have often seen many red admirals on buddleia bushes but now I wonder whether they were all females. Haha, yes, peacock butterflies!

    1. I shall be watching out for any butterflies visiting my buddleia this year, to see if there are multiple red admirals! Last year, I only noticed white cabbage butterflies!

    1. Thank you, Debra. She's recovering from having two teeth extracted. She soon grew tired of the cold sweet foods (ice cream, jello, etc.) and asked for savory food!
