Blood Tests and Piano Lessons

Tuesday was a very overcast and cool day (59F when I woke up and a high of 64F in the afternoon).  I am afraid it might be too cold for my okra to germinate!

I took it easy in the morning, responding to blog comments, reading other blogs, etc.  Then, I went for the blood test.  My appointment was scheduled for 1:00 p.m., but, I still had a 20 minutes wait!  The waiting room was full (only 6 people are allowed at one time to keep the required social distancing) and I waited out in the hallway, but, that was a bit crowded too, with the overflow patients.  After over 20 minutes of waiting, I was called in, even though there was one other person ahead of me in line (I was told that they were waiting for a fax from that person's doctor before they could attend to her).  The blood test, itself, went smoothly.  My favorite lab technician attended to me and we chatted for a few minutes (she was the one who gave me her phone number on a previous visit and told me to call her if I needed any groceries picked up, etc.)

Came home by 2:00 p.m. and ate brunch (I had gone fasting for the blood test; I had a granola bar with me to eat in the car, if I needed to, but, preferred to come home and eat).  Then, read and relaxed for a bit before practicing the piano.

My piano lesson was at 6:00 p.m.  I was given an A+ (no stickers, though, unless I give myself one!) on the theme from Godfather, Hedwig's theme, and an etude.  I still need to work on the minuet from the last lesson.  Today, I received two new pieces: Minuet in D Minor by Leopold Mozart (I think; the title and composer's name are in Russian on the sheet music that S photocopied for me) and Arabesque by Johann Burgmuller.

Daughter had leftover rice and curries for dinner; I was not very hungry after having noodle soup for brunch, so I had a toasted cheese sandwich.  I also made some fresh fruit salad with an apple, a plum, an orange, a handful of blueberries, and some cashews for us to share; I added raisins to my portion only because daughter doesn't like raisins.

Later, I chatted with friend R.

I'm afraid that I didn't get through my To Do list, today.  I will have to be extra productive, tomorrow!

Today, I am grateful for:

- A safe drive to the lab and back
- The blood test went smoothly
- Medical insurance
- S teaching me to play the piano
- Working appliances

Today's joyful activity was playing the piano.

How was your Tuesday?  What are your plans for Wednesday?

    1. Thank you, Martha. I thought I responded to your comment, earlier this morning, but, I guess I didn't actually publish it! Oops!

  2. Congratulations on the A+ and here's some emojis for you in lieu of proper stickers - πŸ₯‡πŸ…πŸŽΉπŸŽΌπŸŽΆπŸŽ΅

I tuned in to a life coach session this morning and one of the tasks we were asked to do is to create a list of joyful activities - 15 smaller ones to pick from for daily joy and 5 more involved ones for something joyful to look forward to. I did think of you and your daughter when this was mentioned! I'm trying to finish of the list of 15 ideas - I seem to be stuck with picking from the same 4 or 5 things so this will move me out of my little comfort zone but in a way that adds enjoyment to my life. I feel this probably merits a blog post!

    1. Ooh! Thank you for the emojis in lieu of stickers! :D

The list of joyful activities sounds a bit familiar. :) I like the idea of smaller ones for daily and bigger, more involved ones to plan and look forward to. Yes, I think the task merits a blog post! :)

  3. I find it hard to wait for bloodwork if I have fasted. Luckily, I've discovered that I can get in and out quickly if I get there at 7 am.

Good job on your piano lessons. Do you feel like you're making good progress. It sounds like you are.

    1. I try to get a morning appointment, usually (they open at 8 a.m. and the first hour is for people 60 or older), but, this time, I didn't book my appointment far enough in advance to get a morning appointment. For some reason, I thought my doctor's appointment was on the 23rd, instead of the 16th!

Thank you! Yes, I feel I am making good progress. I think my sight reading/note recognition skills are improving - still a long way to go, especially for notes that are well above or below the regular leger lines, but, I am getting there. :)

  4. I bet you were glad to get through with the blood test, all the waiting and people! Nice to have a favourite technician to chat to. You are building up quite a good repertoire with your piano music! Congratulations on doing well with your lesson.

More fine weather and we raked and DH took away the branches and leaves to put in a hollow spot in the yard. I get a little carried away raking and have to remind myself that most of the yard is actually wild and doesn't need fancying up! Our doggy friend came over to watch and even lay down for a while. Later he came back for treats.

    1. It's funny, but, I felt a lot more relaxed going in, this time (compared to how nervous I was that first time I went for a blood test after the lockdown!) Still wore two masks and all that, but, I didn't feel quite as vulnerable since I have received both vaccinations. Even so, it was a relief to get it done and come home!

Sounds like you've had a really productive day in the yard. Leaf mulch is good for the ground, so, it's good that your husband put the leaves and branches in another area of the yard.

Glad to see that your puppy friend came over to keep you company while you tidied the yard. Of course he came back later for his treats! LOL.

    1. No worries; I have to have blood tests prior to my routine check ups (every 3 months) with the oncologist; mostly to check my cancer markers, but, also to check various other things, as well. The oncologist will go over the results with me when I go in on Friday.

Thank you! I am enjoying my piano lessons. :)

  7. I am glad you were able to get your blood test done. It's a relief to put it behind you especially with things like they are with the virus.

You continue to do well with your piano lessons and improve.
    Bravo!
