Double Colored Rose: Unintended Close Up |
The above picture is what I got when I held the cell phone close to the flower and clicked to photograph without being able to see exactly what I am photographing because of the glare! LOL. But, I like how it looks!
Double Colored Rose |
Today was a sunny day (still a bit cool, though). I am afraid I didn't do any housework, as such. Instead, I brought the trash cans in, practiced the piano, took some pictures of the garden flowers, did some weeding, took a very short (15 minutes) nap in the afternoon, watered the back garden, had my piano lesson (a good lesson; S was very happy with my practicing and progress), ordered more groceries for a pick up, tomorrow, chatted with friend R, did the dishes, cleaned Dancer's litter box, and cooked dinner:
Stir-Fried Angel Hair Pasta with Shrimp |
I used angel hair pasta in lieu of noodles, the last of the peapods from the garden, three end-of-the-bag carrots that I cut into thin strips, and a package of frozen peeled shrimp (purchased back in February for $5.99). I added some minced garlic and chili flakes along with soy sauce, a bit of sesame seed oil (mixed with vegetable oil), and a little salt. I stirred in a bit of chili sauce into my serving just before eating. There are enough leftovers for another meal, tomorrow.
I also picked the last two oranges from my tree:
The Last Oranges |
I was glad that my daughter was able to enjoy this year's oranges. Now, we have to wait until next year for more oranges from the tree.
Today, I am grateful for:
- A sunny day
- An afternoon nap
- Oranges from the tree
- Being able to order groceries online
- Time spent in the garden
Today's joyful activity was playing the piano and feeling like I am making progress!
Plans for tomorrow include picking up the groceries and vacuuming.
How was your Tuesday? What are your plans for Wednesday?
You are getting very artistic with your photos. :) I have the same problem sometimes with the sun. I just aim and shoot with mixed results. Your oranges are beautiful. I am still charmed with the idea that you can go into your yard and pick one off a tree.
ReplyDeleteThank you! :D I guess it would be hard to be anything but artistic with that particular rose! I love being able to pick oranges and lemons from my trees. :)
DeleteSounds like a good day. Glad you were able to get a peek of the moon. Dinner looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. It was a good day and dinner turned out very nicely. :)
DeleteYour rose looks incredible. I love the colors! I went to the beach yesterday, and watched the surfers. Lula and I took a bike ride along PCH, up near Carpinteria. It was glorious!
ReplyDeleteI love the roses on this one bush; the amount of yellow and pink changes from rose to rose and no two roses are identical! I just wish I can remember the name of the rose!
DeleteSounds like you had a lovely day, yesterday! :)
Well done on the piano progress. Did you play your new piece, River Flows In You?
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have had a nicely paced and balanced day even if you didn't get round to doing the housework you'd planned.
I like your close up photo of the rose ... very artistic! I didn't get to see the pink moon - I forgot about it to be honest!
Thank you, Eileen. Yes, I played just the right hand only for River Flows in You, because I was still trying to get the count, right! I was, actually, given the option of continuing with this piece or choosing something else, because, apparently this is a Level 5 piece! But, I opted to continue with this piece - last week, I felt a bit intimidated by it, but, this week, I feel I am up to the challenge! I was told we will work on the left hand, next week although, I did explore the left hand notes on my own (and even put the hands together on the first two lines, as it made it easier for me to count!) I've a long way to go, but, that's OK.
DeleteThank you for the kind comment about the rose close up photo! :) I honestly thought I was taking a picture of the whole rose!
Your close up photo is like a puzzle piece and I can see where it comes from on the photo of the whole rose! The colours are so wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIt is cool and damp and DH and I worked in the yard this morning, now he has gone to help a neighbour who is wood-chipping. I weeded an area close to the house and put some flattened cardboard boxes on there with wood chips on top. I got the idea of the cardboard somewhere. 😀💖
Thank you, Bushlady. The rose's colors are lovely, aren't they?
DeleteSounds like you had a busy morning in the garden. Oh, what a marvelous idea to put down flattened cardboard in the weeded area! :D I especially like the idea of the wood chips on top. I need to put in a request for bags of bark mulch, myself.
I love the colors in the first photo. It reminds me of a Kupka abstract.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could pick oranges straight from a tree in my yard.
Thank you, Anne! Maybe I should try to take more close ups! :)
DeletePicking my own oranges has been a joy! My daughter is of the opinion that they taste better than the store bought ones. The next fruit I'll be picking will be the peaches. :)
Your shrimp stir fry looks delicious. I love shrimp.
ReplyDeleteI pick up the 2lb bag at the store when it goes on sale and keep it in the freezer.
That is such a beautiful rose.
You may not have done any housework but your day was busy with other things.
Thank you, Debra; I will definitely buy more frozen shrimp when it is on sale.
DeleteI do like this double colored rose - if I buy another rose bush in the future, I think I might get another one like it.
Housework often takes low priority with me! But, I'm flexible, that way! :D
Fresh oranges from the tree - delicious! And the rose is beautiful. Such gorgeous colours. Isn't nature wonderful. X
ReplyDeleteYes, nature is wonderful. We need to take the time to really appreciate its wonder. :)
DeleteLove, love, LOVE that top photo! Your dinner looks yummy ... but commiserations on the last two oranges :o( I am so missing fruit at the moment!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I almost didn't post that picture! :D Are you avoiding all fruit? I think that would be very hard for me to do.
DeleteI had no fruit for two weeks. It was really hard! The last two days I have had a red grapefruit per day. I don't know if it is within the rules but it satisfies my need, and surely they can't be that high in sugars...
ReplyDeleteI know that they say that berries such as raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries are acceptable in a low-carb diet (blueberries apparently have a higher carb count than the others) provided one keeps to the recommended serving sizes. I looked up the amount of carbs in a red grapefruit - one that is about 4 inch diameter is supposed to have about 18 grams of carbs.
DeleteInteresting, thank you for looking that up. On Atkins, in the first phase all fruit is banned and the max. carb allowance per day is 20g. I haven't measured exactly but I assume I would have had much less than that most days, as I've stuck mainly to leafy greens for my veg. After the first phase, certain fruit is allowed but so far the only change I've made is the grapefruit. I'm so happy to know it comes in at 18g!!
DeleteI think you should be fine with one grapefruit a day, especially if you are being careful with what you are eating the rest of the day. :)
