Desiccated Rose |
Today was another warm day, with a high of 96F. I love the heat, but, the roses don't! One hot day and the roses just dried up on the bushes!
"Sun Burnt" |
Today, I took my daughter to the dentist's to have her wisdom teeth extracted. The dental surgeon reviewed the CT scan and was a bit concerned because one of the wisdom teeth was rather close to a nerve. He spoke with me and said he would like to treat her at his other clinic (where we went to have the CT scan done) as it was better equipped to handle more complicated procedures. I rather like his other clinic as it is less crowded (located in a medical building where daughter used to go to have her eyes checked) and definitely more upscale! He said to take our time getting there as he had one other surgery to do in the clinic we were in, but, he'll be at the other clinic in half an hour.
So, I drove daughter to the other clinic and we waited in the nearly empty waiting room until the dental surgeon arrived. The one other person waiting was called in by someone else and then, daughter was called in. I waited in the now-empty waiting room, reading my prayer book. While I was waiting, one other person came in - she was apparently an anesthesiologist who was there to assist in another procedure that was going to be done under general anesthesia!
Daughter's extractions didn't take long as she only had two wisdom teeth extracted, today, after all! Apparently, because she has asthma, that affected the type and amount of local anesthesia she could receive at one time. So, the upper and lower wisdom teeth on the right side were extracted today and she is to return in two weeks' time to have the third wisdom tooth removed. The dentist has said that the fourth tooth should stay in place, as long as it doesn't hurt her, because it is too close to the nerve to try and remove it at this time. He suggested she had it checked again in the future to see if there is any change because, sometimes, the tooth or the nerve could shift with age.
On the way home, we stopped at daughter's pharmacy to pick up the prescribed antibiotics and pain medications.
Her appointment had been at 12 noon, so we left the house around 11:30 a.m. It was exactly 3:00 p.m. when we got home. Ice packs, antibiotics, pain medication, ice cream, gelatin, and applesauce, etc., in the afternoon for daughter and a bit of lunch and responding to blog comments for me.
Later in the evening, I put water to the back yard and did a bit of weeding. I had finished weeding the second flower bed, yesterday, but, I took the picture, today:
Weeded Flower Bed |
Today, I continued weeding the third flower bed.
Later I made some chicken broth for daughter, but, had to chill it first, because she is not supposed to have anything hot, today. I also made her some extra creamy mashed potatoes (again, served chilled; it's a good thing she doesn't mind eating cold food) because she asked for something savory. More ice cream and jello, afterwards.
In the evening, I practiced the piano, called and chatted with friend R, texted with cousin N who was inquiring how daughter was, and cleaned the litter box.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter's teeth extraction went as smoothly as it did
- Dental insurance
- Pain medications and antibiotics
- A safe drive to the dental clinics and back
- A working fridge!
Today's joyful activity was spending time in the garden,
Plans for tomorrow include taking care of daughter and tending to the garden with M.
How was your Thursday? What are your plans for Friday?
I'm sorry that your daughter couldn't have all of her teeth out at the same time, but it sounds like she has a very good dentist who is using proper precautions.
ReplyDeleteI kind of like the look of the sunburnt roses. Not as pretty as the regular form, but pretty all the same.
Yes, I'm glad the dentist decided to do one side at a time; it extends the recovery time, but, better than her getting an overdose of the anesthesia! He's my dentist, too, and although I complain about the way the local clinic is run (he's not there all the time), I insist on seeing him and not one of his assistants, when I need tooth extractions, etc.
DeleteThe sun dried roses do have a certain charm, don't they? I think I'll add them to my bowl of potpourri I've made with dried rose petals and jasmine flowers. :)
Very glad to hear that your daughter is recovering well. I like her dental surgeon's care/concern for your daughter rather than his own convenience. There is a Greek appetizer that is mashed potatoes with garlic & it is always served cold with naan like bread - oh yum! Happy Weekend - it is National Scrapbook Day (NSD) on Saturday, so I'll be crafting.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary-Lou. Yes, he's a good dentist (he's my dentist, too, and I trust him). The Greek garlic mashed potatoes sounds good! Today, I blended canned garbanzo beans with chicken broth and some onion and garlic powder - not quite hummus, but, she enjoyed it.
DeleteEnjoy your crafting weekend! Hope you'll share some of your scrapbook layouts with us. :)
The flower bed is looking great. I hope your daughter feels better after a good rest. X
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules. The more I weed, the more weeds I see that need to be pulled out! :D
DeleteDaughter is feeling much better, today, thank you. :)
Sending more healing vibes to your daughter and wishing her a speedy recovery. It sounds like she had very good treatment from her dentist.
ReplyDeleteIs the third flower bed the final one to be weeded? How did you cope with the weeding with those high temperature? Your poor roses didn't fare well at all. At least that's one problem we never have here!
Thank you, Eileen; healing thoughts are much appreciated. :)
DeleteYes, the third flower bed is the final one to be weeded of the ones I showed; but, I think I've discovered other beds to be weeded after this! I wait until evening when it is cooler to weed. Today's high is 94F, but, tomorrow's high will be 77F and on Sunday, only 71F. I can see myself doing more weeding over the weekend! The roses don't last long when the temperatures climb up to the mid-90s!
I'm glad all went well and hope your daughter is feeling ok today.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. She's recovering well. She took the day off from work, so she's able to rest.
DeleteGlad that half the job has been done safely. Cold soup and mashed potato! Poor thing!
ReplyDeleteI was meant to have all my wisdom teeth out when I was a student and was advised I'd have to go into hospital for it. Because of exams, it never happened. Then in Japan I got it done for free under local anaesthetic! Cost me only two bus fares! 20 mins each time! BUT the dentist there was adamant that only the top ones needed extracting. Now, my lower teeth are very crowded and the back ones hard to keep clean/prone to cavities. They are talking about extracting the remaining wisdom teeth now. And it will be a palaver, special booking, special clinic etc. I deferred last year because of the pandemic but I suppose it'll have to be done sooner or later.
Your poor roses!
Thank you; yes, it's a big relief that the one side was done. It's easier to manage pain and swallowing even cold soup when you have to worry about only one side of the face and not both sides! I had all four of mine removed at once and remember crying with pain, afterwards! Lucky you to get at least the upper ones done for free in Japan! Hopefully, getting the lower ones done won't be too complicated a process. Let me know if you need me to make you some cold mashed potatoes! :D
DeleteNow that's one dish I won't be requesting for my visit!
DeleteI had mine out one at a time, and while I'm sure it must have been tender for a while, I don't recall any pain after the anaesthetic wore off. I do remember a massive blood clot coming loose on my way to the bus stop. I spat it into tissue and panicked a bit when I saw it. Was going to go back to the surgery but realised the site wasn't bleeding so went home! Yes, the whole thing was very lucky. I'm sure finishing the job now will be pretty expensive, but I'm keen to get it done.
Oh, that blood clot coming loose would have been scary! Weren't you supposed to keep a piece of gauze in place afterwards? Here, they have you bite on a piece of wadded gauze which has to be kept in place for at least 20 minutes, and if you are still bleeding afterwards, they advice you to put another wad of gauze to stem the bleeding.
DeleteNo, don't remember any of that. Things were very different over there. Both the attitude and the advice/opinion. Also I remember the practice was very big with lots of dentist chairs in semi-compartmentalised areas. The staff attended to each patient while the dentist walked between patients attending to each when they were ready, and advising the staff what to do next while he went to the next one. I guess he was seeing around five patients at a time! It seemed odd to me but I guess it wasted less time than the western way. There was no culture of regular check ups; you only went to the dentist if you had a pain/problem.
DeleteYes, even here, the dental clinics I've been to have several chairs with the dentist going from patient to patient.
DeleteMake that "European way"!
Delete:)
DeleteI'm glad that the dental surgeon seems to be on top of things. I hope your daughter will soon be over the first two extractions. I had 3 out individually years ago and still have one in place. One of my WT had a funny little curly end to it when it came out!
ReplyDeleteWhile your poor roses are frying, my two daffodil blooms are managing to survive 59°f and snow most of the day! No eating on the deck today.
Thank you, Bushlady. She's recovering. She took today off from work so she is able to relax and she has the weekend to rest, as well. I had all four removed at one time and I remember being quite miserable!
DeleteOh, your poor daffodils! Well, we are supposed to dip down to the 60s, on Sunday, with a high of just 71F. Today, however, is another warm day. :)
I am glad your daughter came through the procedure well. It sounds like the dental surgeon was cautious with the one tooth and I think that is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteYour flower bed looks good all freshly weeded.
I can't get over how sizzled your rose blooms got!
Thank you, Debra. She recovering nicely and yes, it was good that the dentist was being cautious.
DeleteI am happy with all the weeding I've been getting done. But, yes, the roses didn't like the temperature change at all! :D
I hope your daughter continues to recover well from the extractions. Your weeding is looking very good! The roses are still lovely even wilted from the heat. Best, Celie
ReplyDeleteThank you, Celie. She's recovering, but, these things take time, don't they?
DeleteI weeded a little more, today. It's very therapeutic! Yes, the desiccated roses still retain their color and shape. I think the sun preserved them for me. :)
So glad your daughter's procedure went off without a hitch other than having her in a better facility based on her needs. Hope the swelling goes down quickly.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anne; I'm glad she was asked to go to the better equipped clinic! The swelling should go down over the next couple of days, I think.
DeleteOh boy 96 degrees? That is too hot for me. I like it a bit cooler. Your poor roses. So glad your daughter's wisdom teeth extractions went well. It seems like she has a very good dentist. That makes all the difference. I had all four of mine removed a few years ago. I had no problems at all, didn't even need my pain meds. I was lucky I guess. Prayers for the third extraction in two weeks. Denise
ReplyDeleteHi Denise, 96F is not too bad; we will get warmer temperatures in the summer. Yes, how good the dentist is makes a lot of difference, doesn't it? I'm glad that you didn't need any pain medication after your teeth extractions. Thank you for the prayers. Hope all is well with you.
DeleteGlad it went okay. Hopefully daughter will recover quickly!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon; she's feeling better, today. :)
