Vaccination Completed!

Today, I received my second dose of the Moderna vaccine for Covid-19!

In the morning, I watered the back garden, had some toast for breakfast, and practiced the piano a bit.

In the afternoon, I went for my vaccination; daughter accompanied me.  We got there a bit early (I anticipated there might be more traffic, it being Easter and people leaving church, etc., but, traffic was lighter than it was when I went for my first dose).  But, arriving early was fine.  I was called in right away, received the vaccination, sat for the required 15 minutes, and, yes, the urge to shop is definitely a side effect for me!  LOL!  I didn't feel the urge to shop when I took daughter for her vaccination, but, apparently, it requires being vaccinated myself for me to feel this urge!  This time, however, I actually bought a few items that were needed (light bulbs and a container of disinfectant spray) and came home.  Daughter drove us home although I felt OK.

After we got home, I returned Aunt C's call and then, neighbor T called.  Afterwards, I prepared our Easter lunch.  Well, I had already baked the ham, earlier, but, I warmed it up, opened a few cans (baked beans, corn, and cut green beans) and warmed them up, too.  I made up a plate for T because she said her daughter wasn't able to visit her for Easter and I felt bad for her.  Daughter took the plate over to her and she was so pleased!  She called and thanked me and said it was the most wonderful meal she's eaten in a while (T doesn't cook for herself, these days, and eats mostly microwavable frozen dinners).  I told her it wasn't exactly cooking (I just mostly opened cans!), but, she was happy!  I hadn't made a dessert, but, I included a vanilla flavored lollipop from See's Candy (one of our popular candy manufacturers; the company was founded in Los Angeles in the early 1920s).

After we had our Easter lunch, daughter and I washed the dishes and I put away the leftovers and tidied the kitchen, a bit.  There's leftover salmon fillet, rice, and broccoli mallung from Friday night's dinner for tonight's dinner.

As I type this, it has been 5 hours since my 2nd dose and I am feeling OK.  But, I am prepared to take it easy over the next couple of days.  I've done all the house cleaning in readiness - I cleaned the bathrooms earlier in the week, mopped the kitchen on Friday, and vacuumed the house, yesterday.  All I have to do tomorrow is take the trash cans out to the curb for pick up and, maybe, water the front garden, if I am up to it.  If not, it can wait another day or so.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to get the 2nd vaccination dose
- Daughter accompanying me
- The safe drive there and back
- Being able to send a plate of Easter lunch over to T
- Phone call from aunt to check on me

Today's joyful activity was sharing Easter lunch with neighbor T.

How was your Sunday?

  1. Take it easy - some friends here have said they had more if a reaction after the second jab. We will get our 2nd jabs in May, after we have moved house-200miles from where we had jab #1.

    1. Thank you, Angela. I, too, have heard that some people have a bigger reaction after the 2nd dose. As of this morning, I have a sore arm, but, I was expecting that! Still planning to take it easy. Bit of a gap between your first dose and 2nd, isn't it? Is it because you are moving?

  2. Wonderful news about receiving your 2nd vaccine jab. Hopefully no side effects to bother you. Do they give you advice about still wearing a mask & not gathering indoor with people not in your household? Nice that your daughter is still with you to keep an eye on you.

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. I've a sore arm, today, but, I was expecting that. Come to think of it, they didn't say anything about how I should act afterwards! But, I know that I should wear a mask even afterwards, etc. The variants that are out there are scary!

    1. Thank you, Jules. I actually went to bed before midnight, last night (although I didn't fall asleep right away). Nothing on the agenda for today - I plan to relax and take it easy.

  4. So glad you're now fully vaccinated. I was just finally able to secure appointments for me and my husband this morning for ours. I hope you won't have many side effects. Let us know how you're doing.

    1. Thank you, Martha. Glad you were able to get appointments for your husband and yourself. I have a sore arm, this morning, but, I was expecting that. Not sore enough to take a Tylenol, though. But, I plan to take it easy, today. :)

  5. I hope the urge to shop is the only side effect you get from your second dose. If not, I hear that the side effects are usually gone in a day or two.

    1. LOL, thank you, June! :D Light bulbs are something that stores won't ship/deliver and 3 of the 5 bulbs in the family room ceiling light fixture (part of the ceiling fan) had burnt out, so, I was in desperate need for new light bulbs! As for the disinfectant, we go through that quite a bit. Other side effects include a sore arm, this morning, but, I was expecting that. I'm hoping that would be all. :)

  6. That's great news about getting your second vaccination. I'm not familiar with the Moderna vaccine - how long do you have to wait now for it to develop to it's full strength? It's also good news that you haven't experienced any troublesome side effects.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. Two weeks for the vaccine to develop its full strength seems to be the conventional wisdom. In any case, I don't plan to do anything until my daughter has her second dose (scheduled for April 20th) and has passed her 2 weeks wait, as well. So, mid-May before I do anything other than absolutely necessary.

I've a bit of a sore arm, this morning, but, I was expecting that. I am planning to relax and take it easy, today. :)

  7. So glad you got the second shot and apparently without any side effects other than sore arm and urge to shop! I didn't have any side effects after mine, barely sore arm and no shopping needs! Best, Celie

  9. I'm so glad to learn that you have had your second vaccination. You will be protected so much more and of course I know you will still be careful with masks and such. I hope your arm soon feels better and that there are no other side effects.

Our weather is still glorious and I had a lovely walk yesterday with a friend and we had another today. We went along the river beach and discovered some long mounds of wafer-thin ice slices, quite beautiful.

Love the fact that you are getting to enjoy some nice walks with your friend. The thin ice must have been quite a sight to see. :)

I had more side effects from the second dose, for about 1 1/2 days.
