I spent another couple of hours in the garden, this evening, weeding in the back yard and watering the front! Ideally, I should garden in the morning, but, for one reason or another, I seem to end up gardening in the evening. It doesn't really matter when I garden; I am just glad that I feel up to gardening.
It was a warm and sunny day, today, with an afternoon high of 86F. I spent a relaxed morning responding to blog comments, reading other blogs, practicing the piano when daughter took a break for lunch, etc. In the afternoon, I did my Monday cleaning (dusted the living room, etc.) and read. Later, I watched news and knitted.
Then, in the evening, I gardened, took the trash cans to the curb, let neighbor S's husband borrow my recycling bin, cooked the chicken I had put to thaw, ran the dishwasher, practiced the piano a little more, and chatted with friend R.
All in all, it was another good day that was nicely balanced between housework, gardening, and relaxing.
Today, I am grateful for:
- A sunny, warm day
- Being able to open the windows to let in the fresh air and breezes
- Time spent in the garden
- Water for the garden
- Garden flowers
Today's joyful activity was spending time in the garden.
Plans for tomorrow include taking my daughter for her second vaccination dose. Her appointment is at noon. In the evening, I might or might not have my piano lesson, depending on S's schedule. She will call and confirm, tomorrow afternoon.
How was your Monday? What are your plans for Tuesday?
I prefer to do my bits and pieces in the garden in the early evening. For me, it's a pleasant way to finish off the day and marks the transition of the move towards the end of day.
ReplyDeleteI'm out for a walk this afternoon. It's lovely and sunny so I'm looking forward to a couple of hours out in the fresh air.
Evenings seem to work best for me, too. Enjoy your afternoon walk in the sunshine and fresh air. :)
DeleteTime in the garden is always good. I hope your daughter does well with the second dose. It tends to hit younger people harder since they have stronger immune systems.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. The vaccination itself went well. Hopefully, she'll have minimal side effects.
DeleteGood luck to you daughter with her second vaccine. We are all different in our reactions. My husband and I got our second one yesterday and he's feeling good except for being a little achy. I, on the other hand, have had a fever, chills, headache, and achiness. Luckily, it's all bearable with some Tylenol. But side effects are all worth it for having some immunity against the COVID virus.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. They do say that women tend to feel the side effects more than men. Hope your side effects wear out, quickly. But, yes, you are right, the side effects are worth it.
DeleteI need to get out and do some weeding but I truly just do not want to. I need a swift kick in my backside I guess!
ReplyDeleteHope you feel inspired to do some weeding before you plant your vegetable seeds, Anne. I've a lot of weeding to do as the garden has been neglected for so long.
DeleteIt's great that you have the energy and pleasure of gardening. I also open some windows for a while when I can. Yesterday I was so hot on the deck which is a sun trap, that I had to come indoors. This morning it was 4°C (39°F) when I got up and at lunch time it tried to snow! There was a nasty wind for a while afterwards, so the mailbox can wait. I did get out for groceries in the morning.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. I seem to have regained my enthusiasm for weeding! LOL. Sounds like your weather can't decide if it wants to be spring going into summer or spring returning to winter! Glad you were able to get your grocery shopping done. Stay warm!
DeleteWow you have been busy in the garden. It can be such hard work, especially on the back. I'm jealous of the warmer temps (wouldn't want it quite that warm) as we have returned to a (hopefully) short burst of winter. There were actually some snow flakes today!
ReplyDeleteI'm very happy with the amount of weeding I've been managing to do. I sit on a low stool and that helps with the bending (I don't even want to try kneeling because I wouldn't be able to get up if I did!). Monday was the warmest day, this week. It'll be cooler during the rest of the week, but, not quite as cold as your weather! Snow! Brr!
DeleteGardening is so wonderful right now. I planted pansies today. I usually garden in the morning, but your evening routine sounds lovelyu, too.
ReplyDeleteYes, this is the best time to garden, isn't it? I haven't had any luck with pansies! Or petunias. Or a lot of other flowers! I passed by a house with hollyhocks in the garden, today, and thought of you and your hollyhocks. :)
DeleteHubby started a weeding, actually yanking out ivy, project weeks ago and he still gets drawn back there when he spots some small vine he missed. It will be a summer long project for sure. I am glad your day was balanced among your activities.
ReplyDeleteI had my gardener M do a similar project for me, yanking out an unwanted asparagus fern! He cut it down as much as he could, but, I noticed that he left a few stems in place (which probably need to be dug out, but, that might damage the star jasmine vine I do want to remain in place!) It, too, will probably be an ongoing project!
DeleteYou are being diligent about staying with it and I'm sure things are looking more tidy and you glance around.
ReplyDeleteI am a morning gardener. Since I am an early riser, I like to get out there and spend an hour or two and finish up whatever task I set for the day.
Thank you, Debra, and I'm sorry I took so long to respond to this comment! I thought I had replied, but, I guess I didn't! I find that I can do about one hour of weeding without over-doing it to the point where I am all achy the next day! :D "Slow and steady wins the race" as my mother used to quote. That was one of her favorite sayings.
DeleteI think, later in the summer, I might have to train myself to become a morning gardener! Mornings are usually the coolest time of the day, in the summer.
