Productive Thursday

Purple Martha Washington Geraniums

This particular geranium showed up on my side of the back wall, years ago.  My mother and I thought that maybe the neighbors behind my house had a plant growing near the wall on their side and a root burrowed under the wall's foundation and sent up a new plant.  It grew near the back wall and, later, my mother took some cuttings and planted them behind the garage and near the side wall.  The original plant and the ones near the side wall died and the ones behind the garage almost died, but, have managed to survive drought and neglect.  I've tried taking some cuttings, but, I don't have my mother's green thumb, and the cuttings have never rooted for me; not even when M dipped them in rooting powder and tented them with plastic to create a mini greenhouse for them!  I've said this before, but, I'll say it again - my mother could poke a dry stick in the ground and it would turn into a plant for her; I can take a plant and fuss over it and it will turn into a dry stick!

Today has been a productive day.  Last night, I wrote myself a To Do list and, I am happy to say that I did everything I had listed!  It wasn't a very long list, but, still, I feel like I accomplished something!  I picked up my tax documents, scheduled an appointment for my blood test for next week, watered the front garden and the few indoor plants, put away the laundry, practiced the piano, washed the sofa dust sheets, lint rollered the sofas to remove Dancer's fur which had still managed to get on the sofa, and put two thicknesses of dust sheets on the sofa!

Later, I spoke with my friend who will be having a consultation with the surgeon, tomorrow morning.  My daughter compiled a list of questions for my friend's daughter to ask of the surgeon (it's what she did when I had my consultation with my surgeon, who was very impressed with my daughter's questions, to the point of asking if she was studying medicine and, if not, why not!)

Brunch today was tabouleh for my daughter and the last of the tortillas with fish curry for me.  Dinner was ramen noodles with the rest of the stir fry and some of the laab from yesterday.

The last item on the To Do list was to bake a loaf of banana bread to use up the last two bananas that had turned brown.  I delegated that task to my daughter who baked a delicious loaf of banana-blueberry-oatmeal-walnut bread:

Banana-Blueberry-Oatmeal Bread

A Slice of (slightly blurry) Deliciousness

We had a couple of slices of the banana bread for dessert/late night snack.

Today, I am grateful for:

- What I was able to accomplish and feeling productive
- My daughter being home
- Home baked treats
- Water for the garden
- Working appliances

Today's joyful activity was baking with my daughter.

Plans for tomorrow include tending to the garden when M comes over and housework.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. Having a list of questions to take into the doctor with you is so useful. It's hard to remember everything you want to know while you talking with them. It's great that your daughter was able to help.

And that banana bread looks and sounds delicious.

    1. Yes, I find it useful to have the questions written down, but, even then, I often forget to ask them! LOL!

The banana bread turned out well. I thought of your blueberry post when we added the berries to the batter. :)

  3. I do like the colour of the geranium ... it's beautiful.

I've had a morning in the garden (mostly supervising!) and am now watching the TV reports on the death of Prince Philip - expected, but still sad news.

    1. I like the purple color, myself, Eileen. Glad you were able to spend the morning in the garden. Hope M was able to get all the plants planted up for you. I'm sorry to hear the news about Prince Philip's death. He lived a long life, though; may he rest in peace.

    2. Yes, every plant that could be planted out has been dealt with. It's too early for the tomatoes, sweet peas and Angel's fishing rods so they are still indoors until mid May.

    3. Sounds good. I put okra seeds to soak overnight in readiness to be planted, today. M will have to make a planting bed, first!

  4. That's a pretty geranium. I was able to root cuttings by putting them in soil with rich compost. You have to keep them moist. I think it's best to do in the fall...

  5. What a gorgeous geranium! Your bread looks so yummy. I want to do some baking soon, but bottling maple syrup took precedence of course and today I have been divvying up the latest for our helpers, after a grocery run in the morning. Finally I decided to pick up some fallen branches in the yard, just a few every day.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; I love the color of that geranium. The bread is almost gone! LOL.

Sounds like you are quite busy! Enjoy some of that delicious syrup on some pancakes for me! :)

  7. What a pretty geranium. The color is so nice.
I have a large planting of a hardy geranium in shade under some trees in the corner of my back yard. It's called Big Root Geranium (Geranium Macrorhizum) and It has been a wonderful workhorse of a ground cover for me. I recently have done my spring time propagation of it to spread the love to other areas of my yard.

You mentioned laab in this post and the one previously. I had not heard of it before and it looks good.
I made some tabouleh on Easter using quinoa instead of bulgar because that's what I had and I really liked the way it turned out.
Your daughter's bread looks very tasty.

    1. I like the sound of your hardy geranium! I think it might get too hot in my area for it, though.

Laab is easy to make with any type of ground meat. It makes a nice change from the usual curries and stir fries, for me. :)
