More Sewing and an Earthquake on Monday

On Monday, I had a relaxed morning.  After my morning cup of tea, I called neighbor T to check on her, because she forgot to call me, yesterday.  She is fine, she said.

In the afternoon, I finished sewing down the border/binding on the baby girl quilt.  It has been wrapped in tissue paper and kept aside until Saturday.  After that, I spent a little time reading one of the library books.

Then, it was time to take the trash cans to the curb and watch the evening news.  I called friend R and chatted with her for a bit, as well.  Later, I watched some TV and knitted.  I finished knitting my blue sweater.  Just have to sew it up.

There was a 4.5 earthquake in northern California, this evening.   The epicenter was several miles from Berkeley, but, my daughter called me to say she felt it.  It wasn't a big earthquake, but, Berkeley sits right on top of the Hayward fault line.  Poor daughter got a bit worried; somehow, things like earthquakes feel more scary when one is alone and it happens at night.  We video chatted for a little longer, today, until she said she felt calmer.

Today, I am grateful for:
- The earthquake didn't cause any damage where my daughter is
- She has stocked up on emergency supplies
- She still has electricity
- I was able to finish sewing the baby quilt
- A relaxed day

Today's joyful activities were sewing and knitting.

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

    1. They are a bit scary, even when they are smaller ones, because you don't know if they are a prequake of a bigger one! But, my daughter said she didn't feel any other earthquakes, so, that's good. :)

  2. I had heard the 'earthquake news' and thought about you and your daughter, and I'm glad to hear neither of you had damage- my oldest son lives in Santa Barbara and my youngest son travels two or three times a month to work in Pasadena, so my ears listen for the words 'earthquake' and 'California'- I'm sure living there you just accept the shaking as a part of your life and stay prepared ... like we do for hurricanes that head our way-
update on my daughter: her oncologist okayed her for another round of her current chemo- it's giving her some rough days, but it hasn't caused any issues they can't work with, and so far it seems to be helping keep the monster from further spread- she is staying strong and showing all of us how to deal with all this with both grace and dignity- I do so appreciate your thoughts and prayers for her ... and so does she-
stay well ... the usual regards from here-

    1. Your son in Santa Barbara might have felt last night's shake, but, I didn't feel it, down here. Each time there is a shake, we wonder if it is the "Big One" or if the Big One will follow!

Thank you for the update on your daughter. I hope the current round of chemo will continue to help her. Stay strong, Barb and daughter!

  3. I didn't even know there was an earthquake there. I'm glad your daughter is safe and has electricity. It's a good feeling to have a stockpile.

    1. I didn't know, myself, until she told me; later, it was on the 11:00 p.m. news. She's on the 3rd floor of a 5 story apartment building and was worried about the structure being damaged. It's good to have an emergency stockpile. I told her to keep a small supply at her desk at work, too. I had a personal earthquake kit when I was working.

  4. I can't really appreciate how very frightening it must be when an earthquake hits. Never knowing just how bad it might get.
It's good to know everyone is OK. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. It can be a bit scary! I always feel a weird sensation at the pit of my stomach when I feel that first shaking! And then, it's, "Please don't let this be the Big One", over and over again!

  6. I think it would be unnerving to live in an earthquake zone. Glad everyone is okay.

  8. I noticed the earthquake on the interactive map of volcanoes and earthquakes that I follow every day. A lot of people called it in from all over the area, so I am not surprised that your daughter felt it and I'm sure it was distressing for her, even if felt fairly lightly at that distance.

I did a "Bless" by not sleeping and so staying awake until 2.30 am (I came downstairs)and then not getting up until 10 am. The sky didn't fall! I still got plenty done. I never even heard the garbage truck stop by around 8 am which usually wakes me up on a Tuesday.
