Thursday: Blessed by Friends

It was hard to get out of bed, this morning.  I wanted to sleep in.  It was a cool morning (64F) and I was nice and warm under my quilt!   Besides, my whole body was hurting.  Part of it is due to the side effects of my cancer medication (bone ache, muscle ache, joint pain, etc.) and part of it might have been due to the flu shot.

Anyway, once I was up and about, I felt OK.  I have been told to take Tylenol or any other pain medicine for the aches and pain, but I try not to.  I had a cup of coffee, got dressed, packed my lunch (last of the chicken stir fry and rice) and left to go to the office.

But not so quickly!  My nextdoor neighbors, whose garage caught fire earlier in the year, had workmen over to clean up the burnt structure.  One of the workmen had parked his truck blocking half my driveway!  I had to go over and ask them to move the truck so I could pull out of my driveway!

Once at the office, I had a productive day.  Today, we had a surprise lunch to celebrate my supervisor's retirement and another colleague's birthday.  Pizza, pumpkin pie, and cookies.  I had a slice of pizza and a piece of pie, but passed on the cookies.  The lunch I packed was brought home.  I thought I'll have it for dinner, but when dinner time came around, I wasn't very hungry, so I had a tuna sandwich, instead.

The day that started out cool warmed up nicely and it was 84F outside when I came home and almost 72F inside the house:

I received a lovely surprise in the mail, today.  October is breast cancer awareness month and one of my friends (who is a cancer survivor, herself) and her daughter had mailed me two gift cards for free smoothies:

Gift Cards for Free Smoothies
I am saving them until daughter comes home to share them with her, as she loves these smoothies and she's been there every step of the way with me.  October 2 marked the second anniversary of my lumpectomy.  I can hardly believe that it's been two years, already!

Yet another friend reached out to me on-line, checking to see if everything was OK, because she hadn't heard from me in a while.  I wrote a long response to her and realized just how much has happened in just the past three weeks since I last corresponded with her.

Later, I exchanged emails with another friend and video chatted with my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Friends who care
- Surprise gifts in the mail
- Pizza and pumpkin pie at the office
- Cool mornings and warm afternoons
- Being alive

How was your Thursday?

    1. They truly are the best, Jules. Yes, I am feeling better, today, thank you. It's Friday and I've a long weekend ahead of me - Monday is Indigenous People's Day (also known as Columbus Day in other parts of the country) which is a holiday for some of us and I have Tuesday off, too. Looking forward to the time off from work and getting a few things done around the house.

  2. Wise to hold off on the pain medication as long as you can. You will know when you must take it.

Glad you got safely to work and enjoyed a good day. How are you feeling about your supervisor retiring?

Those smoothie gift cards are fabulous - take care.

    1. Sandy, I feel I take enough medications as it is with my various ailments; I don't want to take any more if I can possibly avoid. I am sad my supervisor is retiring. Happy for her, but I know I will miss her. I started to cry when I said goodbye to her! But, according to my religion, nothing is permanent; everything is subject to change. And, my mother used to say that change was good. So, that's what I am telling myself: "change is good". :)

  4. You have a lot of sufferings, which are one thing...but then to have your neighbor's workers block your driveway...it is hard to understand why people don't think and watch out for others! Your surprise work lunch sounded fun and have fun when you are able to share those smoothies with your daughter! Andrea

    1. People just don't think. There was a perfectly good parking spot on the other side of the street, which is where he pulled into when he moved his truck. In any case, they shouldn't have been parked on my side of the street at all, since it was street cleaning day on my side! The sign is posted right there, by my driveway, but I assume they didn't bother the read it or, if they did, they chose to ignore it.

  5. That was so sweet of your friends Bless. :) I'm fighting another painful Fibro Flare today so I have been puttering around and doing a bit of laundry, eating leftovers and trying to clean off the couch that our dog decided to make his bed on last night. He knows better than to do that but I think he gets jealous that the cats get to sleep on them and our bed so he decided to just go ahead and do it. ;)

    1. Yes, I'm feeling better, today, Judy, thank you, although, today, my blood pressure is high. So, I'm relaxing and waiting for the meds. to take effect. Too much "excitement" lately, I think! Glad to have reminded you to take the flu shot. Need to stay well during the flu season!
