Mother |
She was born in 1920, the 6th child in a family of 9 children; the 3rd of 4 daughters. She was step-mother to five, mother to one, grandmother to one, and teacher to several hundred during her 40 years of teaching. I wrote more about her, here.
I was full of memories of her, today. She was the most influential person in my life and I miss her. All day long, I have been humming her favorite song: Whispering Hope.
"Soft as the voice of an angel, breathing a lesson unheard
Hope with a gentle persuasion, whispers her comforting word,
Wait till the darkness is over, wait till the tempest is done
Hope for the sunshine tomorrow, after the shower is gone.
Whispering hope, oh how welcome thy voice
Making my heart in its sorrow rejoice.
If in the dusk of the twilight, dim be the region afar
Wilt not the deepening darkness, brighten the glimmering star,
Then when the night is upon us, why should the heart sink away
When the dark midnight is over, watch for the breaking of day."
What a beautiful women she was and sounds like that was for both inside and out.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Live and Learn. She had her faults (she was human, after all), but I like to think she was a lovely person.
DeleteI read the post about your Mother via the link and she certainly sounds a remarkable woman. I'm not surprised you say she was the most influential person in your life. I have a feeling if your daughter ever wrote about you she would say exactly the same thing :) xx
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope so, Suzanne! Knowing her, she might say it was some anime character! :D
DeleteLovely photo - a long teaching career for someone born in 1920. Never anyone quite like your mother is there?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sandy. Yes, our mothers are special to us, aren't they?
DeleteVery nice. I really enjoyed reading (following your link) about your mother. She truly was an accomplished woman and went through so much and did so much. You can be proud of her. Eternal rest grant unto her! Andrea
ReplyDeleteThank you, Andrea. I am proud to be her daughter. :)
DeleteNow I will be singing whispering hope all day! It is a beautiful song fit for your beautiful mother.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anne. I didn't realize that there was another verse to the song, until recently. These two verses were the ones my mother taught me.
DeleteSuch a beautiful photo of your mother! Of course I had to look up "Whispering Hope" and found a lovely version by Jim Reeves, whose music I like very much:

Yesterday we had to leave early and take our truck for recall work, to a town 30 miles away, (after our long day out on Tuesday). Wednesday's weather was glorious with fall colours and since we had to spend time waiting, we took the loner car and drove down to the riverside park which we had never seen before. It was like being on holiday, we loved wandering around the boardwalk and marveled at the width of the river, which is pretty wide even where we live. We also did a little shopping, ate lunch out, and wandered round the grounds of a museum which was closed for the season. Picked up a few groceries at a better price than home, including some of those lovely raspberries like the ones you showed here the other day.
Today, Thursday, we got up at a more leisurely pace, and had a few errands to run but they didn't take long and I managed to get in a nap this afternoon. Oh and my cold, complete with runny nose and sneezes, finally materialized yesterday but at least now it has come, it can feel free to go!
Thank you, Bushlady. Mother was 70 when that photo was taken. I should like to look like that when I am 70. Jim Reeves is one of my favorite singers, too!
DeleteSounds like you had a lovely outing, yesterday.
I'm sorry to hear you have a cold, but hope it will leave you, soon! Get plenty of fluids and rest!
She was beautiful. God bless her soul.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Melissa.
DeleteBeautiful photo! Lovely memories of your mother. She sounds like she was a wonderful woman.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. Our mothers are special to each of us, aren't they?
DeleteYour mother was a beautiful person. She sounds like a wonderful role model too. [ I am sure she taught you, and you are a very thoughtful person.] Remembering them on these days is hard but also brings joy.. hugs.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Judy. She was definitely a good role model for me. :) I hope you are feeling better and you have a lovely weekend.
