Monday: Surgeon's Visit and Grocery Shopping Week 3

It was 68F in the morning, today, and 100F in the afternoon!  All quite normal for the middle of October.

I tried to go to bed at a decent hour, but, even so, I didn't fall asleep until well after 1:00 a.m.  Then, I kept waking up, every hour or so.  I did fall back asleep, each time, but didn't want to wake up when the alarm went off and I had to wake up.

Today, I put gas to the car in the morning on my way to the office.  I had a productive morning at the office.  In the afternoon, I went to my appointment with my surgeon.  I don't think they remembered to note down my appointment, because they looked very confused when I showed up and one of the front office staff asked me who made the appointment for me!  I showed them the appointment card I had been given, in response to their query.  It seemed to satisfy them and they asked me to have a seat.  I am glad I had the appointment card with me!  I have felt that the cysts have gone down a bit and the surgeon seems to think the same.  I asked him if I should have a biopsy and he didn't think it was needed.  He was also afraid that further surgery might not heal too well due to all the radiation I have had.  I asked him about the port catheter and he thought it was time to remove it, but said to check with the oncologist on my next visit (in November) and call him to schedule it, if the oncologist agreed it could be removed.

I didn't return to the office after the appointment with the surgeon.  I came home, instead.  On the way home, I stopped at the small ethnic grocery store and bought a loaf of bread and more raspberries:

October 16 Groceries

The bread was $1.50 and the double pack (12 oz) of raspberries was $1.99, for a total of $3.49.

October 16 Receipt

October regular grocery budget = $53.
So far, I have spent $4.13 + $1.98 + $.61 + $5.94 + $12.04 + $3.85 + $6.56 + $3.49 = $38.60
Balance left in the budget = $53 - $38.60 = $14.40

I really don't know what else I will want to buy for household groceries, this week.  I seem to have plenty of everything, and next week, I know there will be leftovers from the prayer gathering dinner.  I also seem to be the only one eating the yogurt and apples at the office!  Someone had brought doughnuts, today, but I had a yogurt and an apple.

When I came home, my next door neighbors' construction crew had parked their equipment blocking my driveway, again!  I don't know why they can't block the neighbor's driveway, instead!  I had to wait while they attached something to their trailer before they could move it.

I was thinking I would be able to get going on my to do list since I was home early.  But first, I had some of the bread with butter and golden syrup.  Then, I lay down on the sofa and took a nap for almost 1 1/2 hours!  I woke up only when my daughter called to say she was home.  Even then, it took me a little time to wake up and have a cup of tea.  But, I am sure I really needed that nap!  I did most of the items on my to do list after I woke up from the nap.

Cleared Dining Table

I probably should have taken a "before" picture of the dining table, but I didn't, because I was too ashamed to do so!  It was pretty messy!  I had my sewing machine, self-healing cutting board, basket of fabric scraps, and box of thread and sewing notions, as well as a small pile of mail spread out on it.  The sewing machine and all the sewing related items have been moved to the spare bedroom and the mail moved to the family room to be sorted, later.  I dusted the table and the china cabinet, but I'll need to dust again, before the prayer gathering.

  1. I chuckled when you told on yourself. Honey, you should see my sewing room...or maybe you shouldn't! I am blessed to be able to close the door, but it's on my 'to do' list today.

So glad all went well at the doctor's office; you are on "recovery road". Good for you!

    1. Thank you, Mindy. Technically, the spare bedroom is supposed to be my sewing/crafts room (as well as guest bedroom and where my filing cabinet is), but I like to sew on the big dining table. I just need to be more diligent about cleaning up and putting things away!

  3. My goodness, you are keeping your grocery budget low this month! That's amazing:) You are also getting so much cleaning done--after your big event is over, you will be able to enjoy basking in the glory of a nice, clean house--fun!

    1. Yes, I am going to come under budget, this month, I think. :) As for the cleaning, there's so much more I want to do in terms of deep cleaning, but for now, I'll be happy with getting the rooms tidy, dusted, and vacuumed. I don't know why it is so hard for me to keep my surfaces cleared! I just have too many things, I guess.

  4. Good news that the surgeon agreed with you that the cysts have gone down. Although not worth getting upset over it is annoying that you were asked "who made your appointment" - like you I take my appointment card with me.

My gosh your loaf of bread looks very much like the sort I grew up eating and reasonably priced. I did my weekly shop this morning and as much as I try I am not able to get it down very much. I am limited due to hubby must have very low sodium. This means the bread I purchase is $4.29 loaf. I purchased a 2 lb bag of Koru New Zealand apples @ $2.99 to try instead of my usual Gala.

Nice dining room table. Glad you managed a nap.

    1. It's the sort of bread I grew up eating, too, Sandy, and I enjoy eating it. No, it's not low sodium, but very tasty! I've never tried Koru apples and don't think I have seen them for sale, here. Let me know if you like them better than the Gala.

Thanks, the dining table was a gift from my mother. :)

The rasberries look so good.. We have one bush we planted this spring, It has been having a few at a time on it.. I have been freezing them, until I get enough to make something with them.
    Have a great day.

  6. Oh that bread looks so good! Your health news is improving. A shame your driveway was blocked again!! With 100 degrees, I bet that nap felt good...plus you really needed it.

Good grocery deals. And I understand how a table can get cluttered with all that you mentioned...happens here too! Andrea

    1. Thank you, Andrea. The bread was very good and I've eaten rather too much of it! I really need to be better about keeping things cleared and put things away after use!

They blocked my drive way again, today! I am getting a little tired of this!

  7. I'm trying to think of something you can put in your driveway to deter the workers from blocking it! Maybe a giant inflatable Dancer cat would make them think twice.
It's good to hear that your cysts are going down. I'm not surprised you needed a nap after a busy time.
