Winter Solstice on Saturday

A Trio of Pokemon: Charmander, Pikachu, and Bulbasaur

My daughter made three Christmas themed Pokemon using Perler beads on Saturday: Charmander is wearing a Santa hat, Pikachu has got entangled in a string of Christmas lights, and Bulbasaur's bulb has turned into a Christmas tree!

Saturday was winter solstice and, to celebrate the shortest day of the year and the beginning of winter, I dusted the living room and dining area and put out some of my Christmas decorations.  This year, I am decorating minimally, but, a little goes a long way, doesn't it?

In the morning, I took Dancer to the vet's clinic to get his injection.  Although I sedated him before we left, he still meowed a bit during the ride there and then, just before we got to the clinic, he threw up.  But, he was quiet on the way home and then, he slept for most of the afternoon.

I did laundry in the afternoon, crocheted, did some paperwork and bill paying, and relaxed watching some online videos.

Brunch was grilled ham and cheese sandwiches and cut up fresh oranges.  Dinner was salad, followed by sauteed Italian sausages cooked with bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes, homegrown corn on the cob, leftover steamed broccoli and rice. We had baklava for dessert.

On Saturday, I was grateful for:

- Dancer received his monthly injection and the trip there was only a little stressful for him
- We had a safe drive to the clinic and back
- Winter solstice and being able to look forward to longer daylight hours
- Warm clothes and plenty of blankets to make up for not having a working heater
- The appliances that are still working!

Saturday's joyful activities included crocheting and decorating the house.

Plans for Sunday include making a couple of holiday gifts.

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

  1. I'm glad the arthritis injections are helping Dancer. We tried them with our cats, but they didn't seem to make much difference. How cold is it at your house without a heater?

    1. Thank you, June; I think the injections are helping. He's not exactly running and jumping on to tables, etc., but, he is able to jump onto the sofas and beds without dragging himself up with this front paws.
The temperature inside the house has been around 56F when I wake up in the mornings (night time lows have been around 45F these days). Daytime temps. have been in the mid to upper 60s, and the house warms up to about 65F or so. It's not freezing cold, but, I do like to keep the house warmed up to around 70F during the early mornings and the evenings.

  2. Oh poor Dancer - and poor you too!
I'm glad the trip home was uneventful.
The decorations your daughter made are very cute and colorful too which is always good I think :)
We got carryout yesterday. First time in a while. My husband picked up a pizza and wing deal at a local pizza place. I'm not a wing eater. It's not the spiciness because I like that but it's the skin on the chicken I don't like. I didn't think to ask if they had boneless wings.
The pizza was very good and there are leftovers of both so that's always a plus.

    1. Thank you, Debra. :)
I'm glad you and your husband treated yourselves to some carryout. Pizza and wings sound good; I don't mind the skin on the wings, but, I think you will have to remember to ask about the boneless wings, next time. We will be getting pizza next weekend, when my daughter's friends come over for their annual holiday get together. It'll be the day after the almsgiving and I will be too tired to cook for them.

    3. Yes! That's the plan! Although, if one of them brings her two little ones (one just turned 2 and the other 6 months), I'll get to play "grandma"! :D

  5. So interesting to see the different crafts your daughter succeeds with!
I hope you are able to keep warm enough while the heater is out of action. I was relieved to find that the house had maintained a reasonable amount of warmth during a very cold night. The wood furnace kept the chill away.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. :)
Oh, I'm so glad that your house stayed warm enough during a very cold night. It doesn't get nearly as cold here, and we are managing to keep warm with the electric space heaters. I added another knitted blanket to my bed, last night, and I was quite warm.
