Productive Monday

Punch Needle Ornaments

Daughter is making a set of punch needle ornaments to hang on the tree.  It's turning out to be a multi-day project.

On Monday, I had my annual mammogram and scan.  My appointment went well and the results will be sent directly to my oncologist, sometime next week.

After I came home, I did two loads of laundry and ran a cleaning cycle on the washer as the "clean machine" light came on.

Later, I boiled the garbanzo beans I had kept to soak overnight, and made it into sauteed garbanzo beans with onions, curry powder, curry leaves, mustard, dried chilies, etc.  Once cooled, I packaged most of it to freeze for the almsgiving.  I kept a little bit in the pan for our dinner.

Later, I took the trash cans to the curb for pick up on Tuesday morning, checked the mail, made tea for us, replied to blog comments, etc., and watched the evening news.

Dinner was leftover rice, chicken curry, and cashew curry with the garbanzo beans I had reserved and a freshly made cucumber salad.

After dinner, I washed the dishes and wiped down the stove top and counters.

On Monday, I was grateful for:
- A safe drive to the clinic and back
- Access to medical care
- Having medical insurance
- Working appliances
- A mostly sunny and clear day

Monday's joyful activity included reading greeting cards sent by family and friends.

Plans for Tuesday include:
- Taking my daughter for her flu vaccination in the afternoon
- Cooking a dhal curry to freeze for the almsgiving
- Bringing in the trash cans
- Watering the front garden

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

  1. I think you should get a little tree and fill it with just the ornaments your daughter made. That would be fun.

  2. I really like the idea of making an almsgiving curry and also having enough from your efforts for your own dinner that evening.
I've never done punch needle before. I would like to try it though.

    1. Yes, it's a short cut I have learned to do over the years! The important thing is to reserve a portion for the almsgiving, first, before you take out some of the curry for your own meal. One would never serve any "leftovers" at the almsgiving.
Daughter got me my own punch needle so I could try doing it with her. I did a little bit the other day; I think I need to practice it, a bit more. The yarn keeps coming out when I pull the needle out and that's not supposed to happen! :D

  4. The punch needle ornaments are quite effective, aren't they? We only have one greeting card so far, because of the postal strike. DS and DDIL and DGD sent one from them all via DH when he stopped by on his way back from a trip in November. The strike is off, as of today, but there is a backlog and I see no point in trying to send any cards now. Even New Year cards might not make it, but there is always St. Patrick's Day and Easter for keeping in touch. Or is there a market for someone to sell "Belated Happy Christmas" cards!!

    1. I do like her punch needle ornaments. I'm glad the postal strike is over. Even if there is a backlog, I might still send cards; maybe they'll arrive in time for Epiphany. I mean, if the Three Kings or Wise Men or Magi took 12 days to arrive, I don't see why a Christmas card arriving 12 days late would matter too much. :)

  5. Lovely ornaments! I agree with the other poster - you should get a tree just for daughter's crafty makes. She's so talented. Hope the results are good for the mammogram.

    1. Thank you, Jules. There are two other needle punch ornaments that haven't been finished, yet. But, when they are done, they will go on the tree. :)
