Tangerines |
The tangerine tree that was bought earlier this year has half a dozen fruit ripening! I picked one on Wednesday and shared it with M and my daughter. It was very juicy and tangy; I think I will leave the others to ripen a little longer.
This week seems to be flying by!
On Monday, I did some housework, watered the front garden, took the trash cans to the curb, had a phone chat with my sister, and crocheted on the border of the blanket I am making.
Breakfast was pancakes, some of which we had with leftover turkey curry and the last one with syrup. For dinner, I cooked a dhal (lentils) curry, sauteed broccoli, and sliced hot dogs sauteed with onions, tomatoes, and spices (crushed red chilies, cloves, cardamoms, curry leaves, etc.) and had them with leftover rice.
On Tuesday, I washed my bed sheets and remade the bed with the same washed and dried sheets, brought in the empty trash cans, did a partial inventory of my freezer, and had a long chat with Aunt C. In the evening, I tried my hand at doing punch needling with my daughter. She is pretty good at it, but, I was having a hard time getting the hang of it! My yarn loops would come out when I pulled the punching tool and it's not supposed to do that! I will give it another go on another day.
Brunch was leftover turkey and pasta casserole, to which I added some diced ham, as well (daughter) and leftover pancakes with dhal (me). For dinner, I cooked a fresh pot of rice, warmed up a packet of chicken curry I had taken out of the freezer, sauteed some green beans, and reheated the leftover dhal and sauteed hot dogs from Monday's dinner.
On Wednesday, M was here and he installed the new bulbs in the kitchen light fixture and now, I have light in the kitchen! Woo hoo! I also replaced the burnt out bulb in the ceiling fan light fixture in daughter's room, so that room is also brighter than it was.
I made ham fried rice for brunch and dinner was leftover curries with freshly cooked rice. I made avocado pudding for dessert.
In addition, I have been decorating the tree, a little at a time (my spine hurts when I stand for any length of time), ordering some of my holiday gifts and had some of them shipped directly to out of state relatives. I still have a few more gifts to buy and/or make and my holiday greeting cards to write and mail.
Some of the gifts are being delivered to the house and someone discovered the box with the kibble:
"This bag is Dancer's Christmas gift!" |
I had to open the box because one of the gifts I had ordered had been packaged with the kibble.
"What do you mean I can't open it now?" |
This week, I am grateful for:
- My daughter's company
- M installing the kitchen light bulbs for me and having a working light in the kitchen
- Being able to order gifts online and have them delivered
- Phone calls and emails from family and friends
The tangerines look perfect. I love the photos of Dancer getting into the box. He doesn't miss a trick, does he?
ReplyDeleteThey do look good, don't they?
DeleteDancer is as smart as they come! He could tell that there was kibble in that box, even before I opened the box.
Lucky was a champion of finding food and opening the bag. After he opened it, all of the other cats shared a feast with him. We tried to get the food put away before they made a mess, but sometimes they got to it before we did. Has Dancer opened his present yet?
ReplyDeleteDancer begged so desperately that I opened the bag for him (he can't tear through the plastic bag); he's been enjoying the fresh kibble.
DeleteCats always know where the food is! I'm sure it smells fresh and tasty to Dancer. You really have a green thumb for growing fruit! (Also flowers and veg). The tangerines look lovely. The days are flying by! Next week is the final exam for the class I'm teaching. I have enjoyed it, but it is time for me to be done.
ReplyDeleteYes, they can smell it and there's nothing Dancer enjoys more than a newly opened bag of kibbles.
DeleteThank you for the compliment, but, I think it is M who has the green thumb.
Oh, I can imagine you wanting to be done with the teaching! Especially since you thought you retired, earlier this year! :D
Love seeing the Dancer photo! It's always fun to see the lovely things growing in your garden at this time of year. It seems to be the time when things really thrive for you, while up here in the north everything is brown and dying or buried in snow!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. This is the time of year for citrus in my area. :)
DeleteDancer's face is making me chuckle. Cats!
ReplyDeleteThe tangerines are a gorgeous colour. We always used to get satsumas at Christmastime. The smell of them takes me right back. Xx
Dancer and I were having a discussion about the kibble, but, as usual, he won because I gave in and opened one bag for him!
DeleteThis is my first time growing tangerines and I am hoping that the tree will do well, next year.
I don't know how you fit so much into your week! Yes, it's flying by isn't it.
ReplyDeleteThe tangerines look so tempting, they look perfect.
Angie ❤️
Thank you, Angie; and here I was thinking I don't get enough done! LOL. But, the days are whizzing by! I am loving my new tangerine tree. :)
DeleteThat's a lovely photo of the tangerines! Congratulations on having light around the house. I'm sure Dancer appreciates it as he goes hunting to see what presents have been put away for Christmas. The meerkats are getting very excited. They have asked Fr. Christmas for a special selection pack of jellied worms. They are now able to climb quite high so I have had to hide them in the car, away from prying paws and sharp teeth. Reggie is in on it and will make the delivery on Christmas morning.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lady Ella. It's lovely to have a well lit house! My kitchen is an interior room, without any windows for direct natural light (only what comes in from the family room sliding glass door), so it tends to be dark, anyway.
DeleteOoh, the meerkats are in for a treat come Christmas, aren't they? Glad to hear that Reggie is in on it and will make the delivery on Christmas morning. He's busy these days, isn't he?
I once hid my daughter's gifts in the trunk (boot) of the car and guess who saw them when I opened the trunk, one day!
