Raindrops on Osteospermum Leaves |
It rained on Monday! Heavily in the early morning hours, tapering off to light showers and drizzle, until it stopped raining altogether.
* Every time it rains on a Monday, I think of the Carpenters' song, "Rainy Days and Mondays".
I went outside in the afternoon, during a break in the rain to check on the newly planted street trees, to take the trash cans to the curb, to check the mail, and to take a photo of the raindrops! The garden has received a good watering and the plants are looking refreshed! The rain is such a blessing!
On Monday, I did a quick sort through of the bathroom cabinet above the sink. I didn't take everything off and wipe down the shelves, but, I tidied it, a bit. One of the questions in the decluttering book was:
"Does the cabinet look like an aisle at Walgreens?" (which is a pharmacy/drug store, here, in the U.S.) My answer to that question was "Yes"!
I don't store my prescription medications in the bathroom cabinet, but, I do store some first aid items (such as bandages, band aids, hydrogen peroxide, antibacterial creams, etc.) in there, along with toiletry items such as soap, toothpaste, cotton swabs, etc. I usually buy a packet of 6 or 8 pieces of soap at a time and I buy several tubes of toothpaste (about 3 or 4) when it goes on sale for $1 and stock up. When I get down to the last piece of soap or last tube of toothpaste, I look for the next sale and stock up. I call these my quarterly stock up; every three months or so, depending on the sales, I buy certain items, and stock up. As a result, on Monday, I counted 7 pieces of soap and 6 tubes of toothpaste in my bathroom cabinet. I am okay with that amount of soap and toothpaste. It just means I don't have to worry about running out of either at least for another 3 or 4 months.
I didn't sort out the lower cabinet or the two drawers on the side, this time. The lower cabinet has cleaning supplies and my stock of spare light bulbs. One drawer has a couple of unopened containers of baby wipes/pre-moistened towelettes, which is a part of my earthquake emergency supplies - if there is an earthquake which damages water mains or pipes, we won't have any water on tap and the bottled water I store will be used mainly for drinking and cooking; the baby wipes will be used for personal cleaning. The other drawer has my hair dryer, a curling iron (rarely used, these days, but, it's there and I am not getting rid of it), and not much else.
I had planned to start on the kitchen cabinets, but, tidied the bathroom cabinet, instead. I'll start on the kitchen on Tuesday.
On Monday, I was grateful for:
- The rain!
- A working heater
- Electricity
- Leftovers (I didn't meal plan or cook!)
- Being able to video chat with my daughter
My joyful activity was exchanging emails and phone calls with friends.
How was your Monday? What are your plans for Tuesday? Does your bathroom cabinet look like an aisle in a drug store?
I always start singing that Carpenter's song on rainy Mondays, too.
ReplyDeleteWe just finished going through our bathroom, and while it doesn't quite look like an aisle at the drug store, it does look better and we can easily see what we have. So, I guess that counts. :)
It's one of those songs that stay with us, isn't it? :)
DeleteWell done, going through the bathroom. It definitely counts!
The osteospermum leaves look fresh with the raindrops. Plants are like us, they need water.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a bathroom cabinet, just a huge mirror over the sink, so various things are stored in the drawers and cupboards in the vanity. I use wire shelves with plastic baskets to corral things. Medications are kept down in a kitchen cupboard, but first aid supplies are in the second bathroom, with just a few bandaids in the drawer of our bathroom. I sometimes think that too much space can be a problem as things get scattered in different places, but so far I can remember where they are!
The plants do look refreshed after a nice drink of water and having all the dust washed off their leaves!
DeleteSometimes, it makes sense to have things in several different places to have things on hand when needed. I keep a small pair of scissors in a drawer in the kitchen, because I often need one to cut open packages and I don't want to walk over to the family room, where I keep another small pair of scissors for similar purposes, in another drawer! :)
In my bathroom cabinet I have a stock of soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes. shampoo and some ointment. Much like your cabinet I imagine :)
ReplyDeleteI guess we all stock similar items in our bathroom cabinets. :) The decluttering book was questioning if we use all what we have stored in the cabinets and how many of a given item do we need to have. :)
DeleteHow nice that you got a good rain! My bathroom cabinet is very small, and only holds what I need to use daily. The rest is stored in a hall linen closet, that looks like a combination of Walgreens and Bed, Bath, and Beyond (when they were still in business)! Yes, I really, really need to sort it. Good for you decluttering your cabinet!
ReplyDeleteIt was good to have the rain we received, Celie, and now, the weather is beautiful - much warmer (upper 60s), and sunny! Windy, too, but, that's OK.
DeleteHow was your first day of classes?
My first day went well, though I'm exhausted! First week is always tiring until I adjust. Your weather does sound beautiful!
DeleteHope the rest of the week goes well for you.
DeleteIt's good for you to have the rain you did. I'm sure the garden liked it! It sounds as though you are really working through the decluttering. Well done.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good shower of rain, although, further south, in San Diego, there were floods!
DeleteThank you, Sharon; I'm trying to declutter as much as I can. :)
Tidying up is always good. Things are neater and more pleasing and often you find things you didn't know you had/forgot about.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you got some more rain. It's so important.
Not to complain but we've had so much the last 2 months.
I'm a bit tired of it. But right now, the sun is peaking out for the first time in days and days so that's good.
Yes, tidying up is good. I found a couple of well expired items to toss and that is good, too.
DeleteI'm sorry you've had so much rain and probably snow, too. I'm sure I'd be tired of rain if it rained all the time, but, winter/spring rain means we might not have a drought in the summer, so that's a good thing! :)
