It Didn't Take Long!

The Street Trees on Sunday Morning

Well, it didn't take too long for the second watering bag to disappear!  It was there, late last night, when I checked from the window.  It was gone this morning, when I opened the drapes, around 11:00 a.m.

At least the trees are still there!

My trees are still the only ones missing their watering bags!  It makes me angry!

    1. Yes; I keep peeking out of the window to see if the trees are still there!

  2. How frustrating. I hope that the next watering bag is left alone.

    1. It is very frustrating. I hope they don't steal any more of the bags. :(

  3. Maybe once on got stolen, the other was just an easy target. The positive is the trees are still there!

  4. I hope your trees survive and thrive. Will the water bags be replaced? Can you hand water them? Trees are such a gift for the future.

    1. Thank you, Terra. I reported the first stolen bag to the City, but, I don't know if they will replace them. Even if they do replace them, there's no guarantee that the replacement bags won't be stolen! Yes, I will hand water them. I don't want those trees to die.

    1. I've no idea, Mandy. Obviously someone who really, really wanted the watering bags for themselves!

  6. Oh no! Why would anyone do that. X

    1. I don't know, Jules. Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they really, really wanted watering bags of their own! Or, they thought it was a fun thing to do! Who knows?

    1. Thank you, Eileen. I watered them, today, and we are supposed to get some rain later this week so that will help, too.

  8. How disappointing that someone(s) stole the watering bags. What good are they to them!!? The tour of your back garden was lovely. You grow so many varieties of fruit trees. I would enjoy picking an orange or lemon from my own tree.

    1. I know, Mary-Lou. I guess they wanted the bags for their own gardens? I'm waiting to see if they take any of the other watering bags or if I have been singled out for this honor!
I love having fruit trees in the garden and picking my own fruit, except when all the peaches ripen at once and I have a hard time processing it all! :D

  9. Well, I suppose at least this time they have left the ties in place, securing the sapling to the stakes. I wonder why your house has been seen as easy pickings ... maybe they noticed your curtains are usually shut in the mornings, and think it's safer to take from there, whereas there might be someone looking out from other houses? It's such anti-social behaviour.

How do the bags work? Are there holes in the base so that the water soaks through gradually? I don't know if it is any use but when I have plants that need to be kept moist, I sometimes cut the base off an old plastic drinks bottle and bury it upside down in the ground. Then pour water into the bottle till it is full, and it seeps in deeply, gradually. Maybe one on either side of each sapling would do some good?

    1. Yes, at least they left the ties, stakes, and most importantly, the trees in place! I've no idea why I have been singled out! I am about the only person who even opens her drapes! Just about everyone else keeps their drapes or blinds drawn closed! I guess I'm seen as easy pickings?
Yes, you fill the bag with water and it seeps through to the ground (I'm assuming there are holes in the bottom), the idea being that the water goes to the roots, with minimal evaporation and runoff. I am wondering if I should place two of the empty kitty litter buckets that I have, in which M cut slits for drainage, when I planted potatoes in them, by the trees and fill them with water? They'll drip down, but, obviously at a faster rate. Or, maybe I could have M make just one or two holes in a new bucket. They'll look tacky, but, maybe they'll stay in place? I hand watered the trees this morning and there's rain in the forecast, so, the trees should be OK for now. I might try the plastic bottles method that you mention. I did that for one of my trees, one year.

  10. Do we have to chain everything to the ground to prevent it being stolen? So sorry to hear that the second one has been stolen, too.

    1. Apparently! Even so, there's a chance they'll cut off the chain! I watered the trees today and there's rain in the forecast for later in the week. I'll try my best to keep them alive!

  11. Oh No! Why would they take them? It really amazes me how horrible some people are.

    1. It doesn't make any sense, does it? Some people don't want to spend money to buy things if they can steal them, instead?

  12. very very strange. What an odd thing to steal. I don't get it.
