September Joys - Update

Back at the beginning of September, I posted a list of  joyful activities for September and called it September Joys.  I meant to post an update at the end of September, but, forgot to do so!  I thought, "Better late than never" and decided to post the update, today!

- Play with fabric and/or yarn -knitted a scarf

- Music (Play the piano, listen to CDs, sing) - Yes, yes, and yes; played the piano, listened to CDs, and sang (slightly out of tune, but, sang!)

- Art (color, sketch, paint) - colored some of the pictures in the meditative coloring book

- Spend time in the garden - spent time in the garden, almost every day

- Craft - I made a couple of fabric covered boxes (not quite sure if that counts as a craft, though) and knitted

- Read a book or two -read blogs, instead!  I took out a couple of books to read, but, didn't!  Just wasn't in the mood to read, I guess!

- Do a flower arrangement - I did one with some gardenias that M gave me from his garden

- Take photographs (monthly mini challenge, SPSH, etc.) - participated in both and took some additional photographs, as well

- Bake something (when cool enough to do so) - I didn't bake anything other than a frozen pizza, in September!  I baked a batch of muffins at the very end of August and I baked an apple pastry on October 1, instead!  That wasn't very good planning on my part, was it?

- Afternoon naps - there were one or two of those, as well!

- Enjoy an iced coffee - had iced coffee several times

Well, I am pleased with how that worked out!

I didn't make a Joy List for October, and we are already one third of the way in, but, maybe I'll do a mini joy list for the remainder of October.

  1. You really did do well with your list. That blue ruffled scarf you knitted is really pretty. What's the name of the yarn? I couldn't remember the 'fabric boxes' so I read right back through all the posts - and there it was at the beginning of the month. Yes that definitely counts as a craft. I think I shall start planning a November Joys list NO. My October Calendar has already been filled with doctor/dentist/optician stuff and other 'essential but slightly boring' activities. I DID have a joyful afternoon in the kitchen on Friday - baking a load of stuff for the freezer, in the company of a good radio play.

    1. Thank you, Angela. The scarf is actually in shades of purple, but, shows up blue in the photo, for some reason. It is knitted with Red Heart Boutique Sashay.

I'm sorry you had to read through all the posts to find the fabric covered boxes. Maybe, next time, type the key words you are searching for (e.g. fabric covered boxes) in the search box at the top left hand corner; it usually takes me to the posts where it is mentioned.

October sounds like a busy month for you. I'm glad you were able to fit in at least one joyful afternoon of baking and listening to a good radio play. :)

  2. Well from reading this, you definitely had a joyful September. Did the list help you or do you think you would have done these things anyway?

Looking forward to seeing your October mini list.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. That is a very good question. When I wrote the list, I meant it to help me be more intentional about my joyful activities; but, at the same time, I didn't want it to become yet another "to do" list, and I think I would have done at least some of it, like participating in the photo challenges, anyway. :)

  3. I think as long as you are looking for joy, it doesn't matter if it is listed or not. I am happy you found it all through September>

    1. Often, there is joy to be found interspersed throughout the day, isn't there? But, I am glad I wrote the list and reviewed it. Because, when I look back on September, what looms large is how stressed I was about the medical insurance paperwork and I tend to forget the joyful activities. Doing the review reminded me that, yes, I did take a nap or two, I did do that flower arrangement, etc. :)

  4. Good to know that you sang as well as playing the piano and listening to CDs. Singing is a healthy activity and who cares if we are in tune or not when we are not performing!

This morning I was amused to throw a peanut down for a squirrel only to see a blue jay swoop down and snatch it from under his nose!
The weather today is magnificent, continual sunshine. We went for a walk by the river and admired the colours on the hills on the other side.

    1. That's true; no one around to hear me sing!

Oh, the poor squirrel! I hope he received another peanut!

Glad to hear that you are having good weather. Hope it makes the holiday weekend a little nicer. :)

  5. I tend to not make a list but have a couple of bigger things in mind that I'd like to do--like when I went to the drive-in. But for the smaller things, remembering them with gratitude works well for me.

    1. It sounds like you have a good system in place. :)

Other than hoping that my daughter will be able to come home for the holidays, I don't have any bigger things in mind, so, I am focusing on the smaller things. :)

  6. Good reasons to be joyful. I'm thinking of knitting or crocheting a scarf myself. I haven't been inspired to do any crafting yet this autumn but I can always make use of some winter warmth. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. One can never have too many scarves and they are easy to put down and pick up whenever you feel like doing a couple of rows. :)
