Summer is Back!

We are having a few day with the temperatures in the upper 90s, again!  Today's high was 98F!  Needless to say, I am very happy!

Yesterday (Monday), I dusted the living room and dining area.  Neighbor T called because she couldn't remember if we spoke on Sunday or not; we did speak on Sunday, but, we chatted a little bit, again.  In the afternoon, I practiced the piano.  I had the lesson in the evening. Later, I played my piano pieces for my daughter.  Afterwards, I took the trash cans to the curb and cooked dinner:

Smoked Sausage Stir Fry

With Sauteed Zucchini

I cooked the smoked sausage stir fry, adding a mixture of vegetables (carrots, broccoli, bell peppers, onions) and pineapple.  I also sliced up and sauteed the zucchini that needed cooking immediately!  Later, I did the dishes, chatted on the phone with friend R, and video chatted with my daughter.

The October Day 12 drawing prompt was "slippery" and daughter decided to draw a figure skater because ice is slippery.  She did two poses, illustrating the beginning and the end of the skater's routine:

Day 12: Slippery

Day 12: Slippery

Today's prompt is "Dune"

Day 13: Dune

Today, I walked around the garden for a bit,  brought in the empty trash cans, did a little housework, practiced the piano, watered the back garden, made a couple of phone calls, and watched some of the confirmation hearing.

When I went out to the garden in the morning, I picked a feijoa (pineapple guava).  Last year, this tree had a bumper crop of feijoas and I picked so many that I was able to make two batches of jam. This year, however, there are all of five fruits!

However, I cut up the one feijoa, added half of a peach, sliced, and a handful of grapes, sprinkled it all with a mixture of chili powder, salt, and sugar, and made myself a fruit salad for a late breakfast:

Fruit Salad: Feijoa, Peaches, and Grapes

Lunch was a bowl of soup and dinner was leftovers from last night.

I am grateful for:
- The return of summer
- Fresh fruit from the garden
- Virtual piano lessons
- Being able to keep in touch with family and friends
- Water for the garden

Joyful activities over the past couple of days include playing the piano, singing, and, video chatting with my daughter.

Plans for tomorrow include a visit to the dentist in the evening.

How was your day?  What are your plans for tomorrow?

  1. Your stir fry and fruit salad look amazing. I've never thought of sprinkling chilli powder on fresh fruit before so I will definitely be trying that out.

So what did your daughter think of your piano playing then? You're dedicated to doing regular practice - is that because you're really enjoying it or do you have to be disciplined and make yourself do it?

    1. Thank you, Eileen. I often sprinkle pepper and salt or chili powder and salt on fruit; it brings out the sweetness of the fruit, I think.

My daughter applauded my efforts and thanked me for the concert. :D I am enjoying the practicing.

  2. All of the pictures of your food look so delicious. I have never had a feijoa, but I Googled it and it sounds delicious.

  3. Sounds like another productive day. We've only had one morning with cool weather so far. It's still like full blown summer here in Florida!

    1. It was a good day, Martha. I find myself doing just enough to keep things maintained and relaxing a lot more, these days. Last week was rather cool, but, this week is warm. I prefer warmer weather to cooler weather, so, I am enjoying it. :)

  4. Yay! For a return of summer. There's not much chance of that happening here. My colleague needed to defrost her car one morning this week.
I hope your visit to the dentist goes well. X

    1. You know me, Jules; I prefer the warmer temperatures.

Thank you; I hope it will be a quick and painless visit! They are going to take an impression for a partial denture!

  5. That's great that you were able to play the piano for your daughter. Our modern technology really helps.
The weather was good again today and I had laundry on the washing line but when I was coming back from the mailbox it started spitting with rain and I hurried home and took everything in. But it stopped raining! Anyway I put it all in the basement. The wood furnace is on as it is cool outside.

    1. Yes, modern technology is amazing, isn't it? Once, when I was at the university, I recorded myself singing on a cassette tape and sent it to my mother and step-father. They reciprocated with a tape of them singing. Then, I borrowed my roommate's tape player and made a third tape, with me singing while playing their tape, too, so that all three of our voices were recorded on that tape, and sent it to my parents. A little thing like several thousand miles between us (I was in Wisconsin, they were in Hong Kong) didn't stop us from singing together like we used to! :D

I'm glad you had some good weather until it started raining just long enough to get your laundry wet again! Oh, well, they say that a rain water rinse will leave the wash nice and soft. :)
