Friday

The phone interview with the Social Security office took place this morning.  It went well enough, I think.  The representative asked me a series of questions, which I answered.  I was told that I could fax copies of my documents, during this time, when their offices are closed, but, I will be required to bring in the original documents when their offices reopened (I will be notified when that happens).  That is such a relief!  An answer to my prayers!  I was so worried that I would be required to mail in my original documents.

Unfortunately, my printer/photocopier is not working.  So, I called neighbor S and asked if she could do me a favor and photocopy a document for me.  Her daughter was kind enough to make a photocopy for me.  Such a blessing!

My phone is not a state of the art smart phone and isn't capable of faxing (as far as I know).  My original plan was to take the copies to a nearby office supplies store that offers fax services on Monday morning; according to their store website, the first hour after opening, Monday through Friday, is reserved for seniors/at high risk people.  My daughter, however, was not pleased that I have to go out of the house to fax.  I called the temple to ask if they had a fax machine, but, they don't.  I asked my cousin's daughter if she had a fax machine, but, she said it wasn't connected.  Later in the evening, I spoke with one of my friends and asked her if she had a fax machine.  She didn't, but, she spoke with her daughter and her daughter offered to fax the documents for me!  I offered to drive to her place to hand her the documents, but, she said not to worry, she will stop by my house and pick up the documents!  What a blessing!  I told her she was an answer to a prayer.

In the afternoon, I rested a little bit.  It was another rather warm day, today.  I cleaned the bathroom and practiced the piano.  Later, M tended to the garden and mowed the back yard.

Today, I am grateful for:

- The phone appointment went well

- I can fax copies of my documents instead of mailing the originals

- Neighbor S's daughter was able to make a photocopy for me

- Friend A's daughter will be able to fax the copies for me

- M mowing the back yard for me

Today's joyful activity was saying a prayer of thanksgiving that the phone interview went as well as it did and for the kindness of my neighbors and friends to help me out.  I am abundantly blessed with kind and caring friends and neighbors.

Plans for tomorrow include sewing more fabric masks for my friend's daughter.  They were the only thing she wanted in return for faxing the document for me.  I am more than happy to make her a few more masks.

How was your Friday?

  1. You must be so relieved that they're accepting copy documents. It's good to hear that, for once, an organisation is relaxing the red tape and adopting a sensible and practical approach to the current situation. How lovely of your friends to organise the faxing part for you. Hopefully the rest of the process will run smoothly for you.

    1. Yes, very relieved and thankful! My friend and her daughter stopped by, already, this morning, and picked up the documents to be faxed. I gave them the last two fabric masks I had and said to come by next week for more. I also gave the girl a card with a little something in it as a way of thanking her. She is interested in learning Sinhala (also known as Sinhalese), which is our language, so I wrote the card in Sinhala script and she was thrilled. :)

  2. I was so happy to read that your phone appointment went well. Thank goodness you don't have to mail the original of such an important document and were also able to find someone who is willing to fax for you.

    good news all around!

    1. Thank you, Debra. It all went very well, didn't it? A lot of stressing and angst before hand, not to mention prayers, but, it worked out well. This morning, my friend A and her daughter C stopped by, picked up the documents, faxed them for me, and brought the originals back. C obtained a confirmation report, as well, for my records, so I have proof that it was faxed. I am so happy. Once I receive my approval notification, I can finish the rest of the paperwork and forward them to my retirement office for them to process (I get the rest of my medical insurance through them).

  3. What a mission for you. Sometimes The Legal or Official Powers That Be, simply do not realise that everyone does not have access to everything. I find it quite overwhelming. But you did it, got it done. Bravo!!

    1. Thank you, Ratnamurti. Yes, some of us who don't have the latest in phones and office machines have a few additional hurdles, don't we? It wouldn't have been such a problem if there wasn't a pandemic still raging in my part of the world and I am in such a high-risk group. But, thank goodness for good friends and their kind children. I am blessed. :)

  4. Wouldn't life be a buzz if we didn't have to get caught up in bureaucratic details? I'm so glad you have someone to do the faxing and I'm sure you are glad to have an easy way to thank her with your skill at sewing.

Well, it was a lazy Saturday, rather dull out but brightened up around noon with a visit from my doggy beau! Of course it is the dried chicken dog treats he really comes for. In addition, I had to refill the sunflower seed feeder, which I put out last night for the first time since the end of winter, and it is now halfway empty already and will probably be empty again in the morning. I think every chickadee and nuthatch in the neighbourhood has been taking turns at it. Also a party of blue jays came wanting peanuts to be thrown out for them!

Ha, ha, maybe the old adage about a way to a man's heart being through his stomach applies to the neighbor's dog, too! :D I have a really, really old stray cat who keeps coming by every day, now, because I felt sorry for him (he's nothing but skin and bones) and gave him some of Dancer's tuna! Now, he expects tuna, every time!

    2. Oh how sweet to take pity on the poor old cat! He'd better not tell the garden cats about the tuna, though!

    3. I give him the tuna in the side yard, away from the other cats! :D
