Saturday

I spent a quiet day on Saturday.  I did a load of laundry and hung it up, inside the house, to dry.  It was so hot, the laundry dried within minutes of hanging it up!  I cleaned the decorative brass items, using just lemon juice (most of the lemons left on the tree have withered from the heat and that's what I use to clean the brassware).  In the afternoon, I read a bit and watched some cooking shows on TV.  Later in the evening, when it was cooler outside than inside, I watered the back garden.  Afterwards, I practiced the piano.  I also sorted through a few things in an attempt to clean/organize/declutter, but, I don't think I was very successful with the decluttering!  It is very much a work in progress for me!

One of the things I sorted through was one of the clear plastic shoe boxes in which I have stored some of my CDs.  I was trying to go through my CDs to see if there were any I wished to declutter.  There weren't, but, the container was a bit dusty and I thought I would take out the CDs and wash the container.  When I removed the CDs, I found this at the bottom of the box:

A Little Prayer Folder

I opened it to see and found this, inside:

Prayer and Medal

I didn't know that this was in the container.  It is not something that I had, but, it is quite possible that it might have been something that was sent to my mother, as she used to sometimes send donations to the organization listed at the back of the little folder.  I don't remember putting it in the container, but, it is possible that I did (perhaps, when I was sorting through a box of my mother's things, it fell out and when I found it, I just put it in the container, temporarily, and forgot all about it).   Perhaps it was coincidence that led me to want to go through my CDs and wash out the container, today (Saturday, August 22).   But, I thought it was interesting that I should find it, today, because, as my Catholic readers will know, August 22 is the feast of the Queenship of Mary.  I feel it is a gift from my mother, especially after being worried about possible exposure to the virus, yesterday.  I have placed this prayer and medal on the altar, along with the other items I have on the altar.

Today, I am grateful for:

  • Life - being alive and well
  • My daughter is safe from the fires in the Bay Area
  • Finding a special prayer
  • Quiet days
  • Being able to video chat with my daughter
Today's joyful activity was spending time in the garden.

How is your weekend coming along?

  1. How sweet is that prayer. If it was your mothers , it must have meant something to her. When I sort if it doesn't stand out to me then I toss it. We just can't keep everything. Hope you can stay cool today. Glad your daughter is safe, the fires are so frightening. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Thank you, Susie. My mother was raised as a Catholic and although she converted to Buddhism, later, she still held onto some of the beliefs of her first religion.

That's just my problem when sorting - everything stands out to me and I want to keep it all! LOL.

Thank you, Susie. Hope all is well with you and Ted. Keep safe.

  2. I believe it was a sign from your mother that all is okay. What a special thing.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. Maybe it is a sign that I need to pray more! Or, maybe I'll be needing this prayer now, more than ever? Or, at least, clean out my storage boxes more often! It has been a couple of years since I went through a box of my mother's stuff.

  3. How lovely to find something of your mother's on the very day when Mary is celebrated. Now you have another special reminder for your altar.
The mice are getting clever. They are able to snag the bait without triggering the traps! I may have to resort to a live trap I designed years ago and take them far away. It is usually just one clever mouse that it the problem, the others kindly use the traps as intended.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. Finding it, yesterday, seemed a bit special to me.

Oh, no, mice are bad enough, but, clever mice are a bit too much! LOL! It's your version of "Tom and Jerry"! Good luck with trapping them with the live trap. I've heard on the news that people are having a rat problem, too, because, with so many restaurants being closed, the rats are looking for food, elsewhere - but, I don't know how true that is. I hope that the garden cats will keep any mice or rats away from my house!

  5. What a wonderful thing to stumble upon, Bless.
I think it's a special occurrence especially given your worry over having M into your house.
I'm sure it was a comfort to you when you found it.

Years ago I was at a yard sale (of course lol) and I was looking through the books and there was a book on Lourdes. The woman holding the sale said she was going to Lourdes the following month.
My husband was ill at the time and his surgery was pending so I started to ask her to say a prayer for him but instead I started to cry.
She was so lovely and got a piece of paper and a pen and asked me about my husband and she wrote the information down and said she was going to pray for him at Lourdes.
I get emotional even typing this as I recall that morning.

That was quite a few years ago and my husband recovered from his illness. The surgery was a difficult one with a long recovery but he is a healthy man today for which I am very thankful.

    Take care,
    Debra

    1. It did seem like quite a coincidence, Debra. Thank you for sharing your story; I am so glad your husband recovered and is well, today. Several members of my extended family have a strong faith in Our Lady of Lourdes and some go every year (although, I don't think they will be going this year). In fact, I wondered if it was my cousin who put the little prayer book in the CD box and texted her to ask. She said she didn't recall, but, it has been a couple of years since her last visit. It really doesn't matter who put the prayer there, what matters is that I found it. I have included it with my collection of prayers.
