Empty Shelf! |
What?! How did this happen?!!!
Well, what do you know?! I moved a few things around, the other day (the glass candle holders are on the living room mantel, now) and, suddenly, I have an empty shelf!
Here is an old "before":
Before: February 2020 |
Of course, it won't stay empty for long! But, I thought I should take a photo just to capture the moment, so to speak!
I would really like to move this shelf unit to the spare bedroom to accommodate my craft supplies (there is a cabinet on the lower half of the shelving unit) as the smaller shelf unit that is in the spare bedroom is a bit insufficient. But, I store some of the table linen, kitchen towels, etc., in the cabinet of this shelving unit as that is a very convenient space for them (in the dining room, next to the kitchen). I don't have room for these items in the linen closet or in the kitchen, at the moment, and without that cabinet space, moving this shelving unit to the spare bedroom makes no sense.
But, it is very exciting to me when empty space appears, however briefly! Not quite sure what I will place on this shelf, next; stay tuned! LOL.
Maybe make another covered box for the linen and then you can use the unit for your craft supplies ... or wouldn't that work?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, congratulations on achieving an empty space ... enjoy it while it lasts!
I thought about the covered boxes, but, I am not sure how well that will work. Maybe if I make room for the table cloths in the linen closet, I might be able to fit the kitchen towels and hot pads, etc. in covered boxes. I need to declutter more in order to make that happen! Or, get another cabinet, which I am trying to avoid doing.
DeleteThank you! :)
That's funny taking a picture of an empty shelf. But I know exactly how you feel. So many possibilities.
ReplyDeleteEmpty shelves are a bit of a novelty in my house! Some people might not even believe that they actually exist! LOL! I'm sure it won't stay empty for long!
DeleteCongrats on an empty shelf. Have you thought of having a set of those lined basket boxes for your linen, they look very attractive they also come as a set of drawers.
ReplyDeleteThank you! :D
DeleteI haven't actually checked the lined baskets for the linen. Currently, the linen are on the shelves of the lower cabinet. I suppose I could find room for them in the linen closet, itself (I store the crocheted table covers in the linen closet).
So many possibilities
ReplyDeleteYes! I'm taking my time deciding what to put there. :)
DeleteI wonder what will fill the empty space? X
ReplyDeleteI've a couple of possibilities in mind. Haven't decided, yet. :)
DeleteI can almost hear that empty shelf crying out, "fill me, fill me!" I hope you can find ways to store your linen items conveniently so that you can move the cabinet to the spare bedroom. We have a similar cabinet in our son's old bedroom and one in the spare bedroom, and I've often wondered if we could move one into the room with DH's computer and desk, as it needs more storage. But what to do with all the stuff in and on those cabinets? De-clutter, I guess, sigh.
ReplyDeleteI bought this particular shelf unit and two others for $20 each in the early 1980s! They came ready to be assembled and I used them in various rooms over the years. One of them broke and had to be tossed. Another one is in the garage - too far gone to be brought back into the house (tried to do so, last year), but, good enough to continue to provide storage in the garage. I suppose what I should do is find other storage for the table linen and the cookbooks and move this to the spare room. Or, buy a new unit. It needs to be something no wider than two feet, because that is the width of the space. Maybe I need to declutter the linen closet!
DeleteOf course shelves don't stay empty for long....any more than drawers stay empty. A new set of drawers or cupboard always get filled and you start to wonder where the contents all went before!
ReplyDeleteVery true! Things have a way of expanding to fill the space that is available! LOL.
