Empty No More

Ha, ha, what did I tell you?  Shelves don't stay empty for long, around here!

The Shelf Today

The decorative blue and white tea pots found their way back to the shelf, this morning.  I say, "found their way back" because, they used to be displayed there until I changed things around in February!  This is how it looked back in May, 2019:

I wrote about it, here.

The ginger jars shown on the top shelf in the picture above were moved to the family room side of the kitchen pass through counter in October and the tea pots were moved to one of the shelves in the living room, sometime after that.  The ginger jars have now been moved to the bookcase in the family room:

I moved the gardening and flower arranging books to the lowest shelf, with the decorating and Christmas books.  The top shelf contains only books on religion (including a few from the bookcase in the living room).  They needed some sort of bookends, so I put the ginger jars at either end.

I no longer buy any books or decorative items for myself and haven't done so for years, but, every now and then, I move things around and continue to try to declutter.

Today is another hot day and I am taking it easy.  I did a load of laundry, earlier in the morning and polished another decorative brass item.  Later, I plan to water the garden and practice the piano.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Fans and electricity to run them
- Working appliances: washing machine, fridge/freezer, etc.
- Lemons for cleaning the brassware
- Chatting with my daughter
- My cup of tea

Today's joyful activity was rearranging my shelves.  I don't know why it made me so happy, but, it did!

What about you?  Do you change your decorative display items from time to time?

  2. Nice choice. And with fewer items on the shelves the plates and teapots really stand out. They look lovely. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. It's nice to have the shelf space to spread out things. :)

  3. I don't have very much out on display in the living room but I do change things round from time to time. Your new shelf display looks good. Does that mean you've decided against repurposing the cabinet for your craft supplies?

We had the opposite of your hot day yesterday with thunderstorms and a chilly wind. I was so cold, even with woolly socks and a warm jumper, that I turned the electric fire on for a while. Today looks like being the same!

    1. Yes, I've decided to let the shelf unit remain in the dining area for the time being. It would require a lot more decluttering in the linen closet to make room for the table cloths and so forth and I'd have to find another place for the cookbooks (they could go on a shelf in the family room).

Sounds like you are having fall weather, already! My daughter, too, said it was barely 60F in Berkeley, yesterday, and she had to turn on her heater at night. It rarely gets as hot up there as it does down here.

  4. I Gran use to say that a change is as good as a rest - looks like switching things about is a fun thing for you. Your blue & white china pieces are quite striking.

    1. My mother used to say that change was good. :) I don't rearrange the furniture that much, but, the decorative items do get switched around from time to time. Thank you; I like the look of blue and white china. :)

  6. Yes, I like to move things around no9w and then. I have a few favourites which are always on display somewhere but don't necessarily stay in the same place.

    1. It's good to move things around a bit, isn't it? Change things up a bit and the place feels different. :)

  7. Perfect! I like to change things around, too, when I remember to do so and don't just ignore everything around me. It is a good feeling to make changes and get a new look to a room.

No more mice for two days, thank goodness. The weather was good today and it was pleasant to be outdoors, but rain is coming again. More time to do indoor stuff at least.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. The one nice thing is, if I find space for the table linen and the cook books somewhere else, the few decorative items can go on other shelves and the unit can be moved to the spare bedroom at a future date. But, for right now, it is staying where it is.

I'm glad your mice problem seems to be easing up! Hope you get to enjoy a few more warm, sunny days before the cold weather starts.

  8. Hi Bless, It looks nice that way. I am grateful for ceiling fans and air conditioning today. It makes a difference when it's cooler. What a relief this drop in temperature has been. I plan to water my garden tonight.

You've done a lot this week with all of your decluttering and shelf cleaning.

    1. Thank you, Debra. I was procrastinating on doing some paperwork and I can be amazingly productive on the cleaning front when I procrastinate on paperwork! :D
