According to the news, Death Valley, California registered 130F the other day! Supposed to be the hottest temperature recorded since the 134F reported there in 1913.
It wasn't quite as hot where I live, but, today (Tuesday), according to the weather report, we reached 109F. Of course, it was a little cooler, indoors; only 98F according to the thermostat. I had two fans going - the ceiling fan and the stand fan. The three-fans days, when I either bring in the stand fan from the living room or turn the table fan set up on the kitchen pass through counter to face the family room instead of the kitchen, haven't arrived yet! LOL!
Yesterday (Monday), it was a few degrees cooler. I practiced the piano and dusted the living room and dining area before it got too hot. I had my piano lesson at 1:00 p.m. and I received a new piece (Russian Folk Song by Beethoven) to learn! I spent the afternoon reading blogs, watching news, and playing online games. Later, I cooked rice and a smoked sausage stirfry for dinner. I also wondered what I had on hand for meals if we have power cuts as we had been warned about rolling blackouts. Sandwiches aren't an option as I am currently out of bread, but, I do have crackers, granola bars, and canned fruits! However, I might add a couple of packages of rice cakes to my next grocery order to have on hand (along with a loaf of bread). Later in the evening, I took the trash cans out to the curb, chatted on the phone with neighbor T and with friend R, and video chatted with my daughter.
Today (Tuesday), I watered the back yard first thing in the morning. Then, I watered the indoor plants. I also kept an eye out for when the trash collection trucks came by and brought in my trash cans as soon as they were emptied! I had planned to dust the family room and my bedroom, but, I admit that it was too hot to do anything! I just relaxed and took it easy. Later, in the evening, after it had cooled down a bit, I practiced the piano and video chatted with my daughter (she, too, is under a rolling blackout alert, but, hasn't had any power cuts, yet).
Today, I am grateful for:
- Having electricity
- Fans
- Water for the garden
- Iced water for drinking
- Daughter has electricity, too
I can't even begin to image those sort of temperatures, let alone live in them! It's just as well you like the heat, Bless.
ReplyDeleteWe have heavy rain today so I've abandoned all plans to go out for a walk and will amuse myself at home with housework, piano, Italian, and cooking.
I will admit that, as much as I like the heat, yesterday was just a bit too hot for comfort. If the room air conditioner had been in place, I might have used it, yesterday. Instead, I put the rice-filled neck warmer thing that I made in the freezer to cool and used it as a neck cooler!
DeleteI like your rainy day activities that you have planned. :) Wish you could send some of that rain my way!
While not 130 (F), it has been quite hot & humid here also. Mother Earth it seems is having lots of hot flushes, which is making her quite cranky (storms & such) & are we to blame? From what I read, Mother Nature was very happy when world wide we were on lockdown.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think Mother Nature isn't too happy right now. I think we've stressed her too much! The humidity makes the heat worse, I think. Hope you are able to keep cool and stay hydrated.
DeleteHere's hoping you get some relief from the heat soon by either the weather changing or M coming by to put in your AC. I don't know how you are able to do anything at all when it is so hot.
ReplyDeleteThank you; it is supposed to be a few degrees cooler, today. Still in the triple digits, though. Yes, I think I will ask M to put in the a/c on Friday. Just to have that option available. :)
DeleteI hope your heat wave passes quick! So nice you have your piano to play! Andrea
ReplyDeleteThank you, Andrea. Yes, I am enjoying my piano lessons. I don't seem to mind the practicing as much as I did when I was a child and took piano lessons! Back then, I hated it! LOL.
DeleteI have to say, I wouldn't be doing much of anything in those kinds of temperatures - and whatever I did do I would be sure to have those fans aimed at me that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny that you have a "3 fan day" phrase for when it really gets bad.
I saw on the news about the temps in Death Valley and about your heat wave in general. The rolling blackouts were mentioned and now the wild fires.
I hope you stay healthy and safe.
Well, I didn't get much done yesterday, to be quite honest. And, yes, the stand fan is focused directly at me. 3 fans when it registers above 100F inside the family room (yes, there have been days like that in years past). That's when I retreat to the bed room (north facing and a little bit cooler than the rest of the house).
DeleteThank you. I must remember to stay hydrated when it is so hot. I tend to get dehydrated, quickly.
Hope you are enjoying your summer and staying safe and healthy.
You will be amused to learn that we didn't fetch in our trash can yesterday and the lid was off. When I went out today I checked to see if any rain had got in and was surprised to see a small purple plastic bag in the bottom, and then even more surprised to see that there was something tied up in it. Well, at least whoever was responsible had picked up after their dog. Not everyone does! But it seems we've also joined the free public trash can club. Like you we mustn't leave it out for long in future.
ReplyDeleteOh, no! Well, welcome to the free public trash can club! LOL. I'm sorry someone dumped their dog's droppings into your trash can. Yes, I think you might want to take in your trash can sooner than later!
DeleteUgh. I've been complaining about our heat (seems like it's never ending) but those temperatures - phew! Stay cool!
ReplyDeleteLOL, it's all relative, isn't it? Yes, I'm trying to keep cool, thank you. :)
