Warm on Friday

The weather has turned warm and of course, I spent the afternoon with a quilt spread on my lap as I sewed the borders down!  Good planning, Bless!

Today, I put away the laundry from yesterday and did a little mending in addition to sewing on the quilt.  Aunt C called and we chatted for a long time.  I also practiced the piano for about 30 minutes in the early evening.

Later in the evening, M came to tend to the garden.  Today, he weeded the area behind the garage.  I took some cuttings from the geranium that is growing there, to see if I can root them.

Still later, I video chatted with my daughter.  She is looking forward to receiving a delivery of groceries, tomorrow, afternoon.

It's been a low key sort of day, spent sewing.

Tomorrow is supposed to be another warm day, with a day time high of 100F.  I should try to work on the quilt in the morning, before it gets too hot!

Today, I am grateful for:
- A quiet, relaxing day
- Fans and electricity to run them
- M tending to the garden
- Conversations with my aunt
- Video chatting with my daughter

Today's joyful activity was sewing.

Plans for tomorrow include more sewing!

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for tomorrow and the weekend?

  1. I packed away the crochet blanket I started because of the heat so I am impressed that you are continuing to work on your quilt in much hotter conditions.

Low key days are the best sort of day aren't they.

    1. Wool projects are best kept for the cooler winter months, aren't they? Sewing quilts is a good summer project, but, I should probably sew the borders, etc., while it is on the bed, instead of having it spread out on my lap! LOL.

Low key days are good. If I want more excitement, all I have to do is turn on the news! LOL.

  2. I know you like to wait before you use your AC. Is 100 hot enough for you to turn it on?

    1. LOL, Live and Learn, the a/c unit hasn't even been put up in the window, yet! I keep it in the garage during the winter and M will put it up for me sometime in August. Even it if is 100F outside, it will still be only around 90F or so, inside the house. That is comfortable for me, especially with a fan on. Right now, as I type this, it is just under 80F inside the house. I usually turn the a/c on when it starts getting to be 100F inside the house, which doesn't happen until we get into the 110F range, outside. That usually doesn't happen until we get to late August or September. :)

  3. You need a low key day after the excitement of yesterday. I had a low key day as well, in the form of rain. Yay!! We really, really needed it. I played in the kitchen in the morning doing domestic type stuff, and in the afternoon I watched some news and had a nap on the couch. I think I am still playing catch-up with my sleep.

    1. Thank you, Susan. There has been a bit of other excitement, too, in the form of a crown that came off a tooth, earlier in the week! Fortunately, I am not in any pain. I am still trying to get my nerve up to call the dentist - I know he will say to come in right away, but, I am not sure if I want to go in!

I'm glad you had some rain for the garden and a nap. You need to rest up from all what you've been experiencing this week. Hope you are having a quiet, peaceful day, today, too.

  4. It must be hard for your daughter being in an apartment. Good that she can get groceries delivered.
Friday's power outage lasted 8 hours so it was just as well that I started supper at the usual time. I was able to "bake" potatoes in the microwave and then cover them to keep the heat in, then cooked salmon and then the frozen peas took only 2 minutes so the salmon didn't cool down. It was 11.15 pm when we were in bed and suddenly the photo/clock device lit up on the dresser! Downstairs the switched on radio was plugged into an outlet not connected to the emergency panel and it came into life. DH got up and shut down the generator and reinstated the regular system. Meanwhile neighbours' generators were still running for a while until they noticed that the power was back. I didn't like to phone them at that late hour in case children were woken up.

    1. My daughter is coping well with being cooped up in her small studio apartment, Bushlady. She hates to leave it, even to throw the trash and pick up her mail, etc., because she says that too many of the other residents in the apartment building don't wear masks when they are in the hallways and common areas. The other day, when she went down to throw the trash and collect a package, she spent all of 5 minutes in the courtyard just to get a little sun, but, she said that, several people passed by her and only one person was wearing a mask. It made her feel uncomfortable, even if she was outside, and she was happy to get back to her apartment.

I am so glad that you have the generator as an alternate source of power! I'm sure you are thankful, too. I almost always bake my potatoes in the microwave, these days. Your dinner sounds delicious!

    2. I sympathize with your daughter. It must be really hard when others are so lax in following recommendations to protect themselves and everyone else from the virus. Send her a hug from me!

    1. That's interesting, because the TV weather forecaster said it was going to cool down to 95F by the end of next week. Maybe he got it wrong (wouldn't be the first time!) LOL.

  6. I am trying to finish a large crochet blanket - it's ok as long as my fan is on. But I hope to be done soon and that's good because it's finally warming up here.

My laundry is all done and the hamper is empty - for now anyway. That status is alway short-lived isn't it? That's true of most household tasks.
    Life is messy.

    1. I hope you can finish your crocheted blanket before it gets too hot to crochet! Is this for your own use or to give away?

Ha, ha, yes, laundry hampers never stay empty for too long, do they> Laundry, dishes, litter boxes - they never stay clean and "done" for too long!

  7. I hope your daughter is doing okay. I'm glad she has you to chat to and hopefully lots of friends to offer her support. This is a really tough time.

    1. She's doing okay, thank you, Sharon. She does find ways to hang out with her friends, online. Yesterday, she watched a movie, online, with a friend, and today, she watched a musical with a few of her friends, also online. We are making the best of the situation, focusing on what we can do instead of what we can't. :)

  8. My country is currently in the dry season, but the air in my city is unique, cooler than in the dry season. Happy sewing.

    1. That's good that the air is cooler because, I imagine it gets quite hot there during the dry season. Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a comment.
