Thursday, Already!

It's Thursday, already!  The days are going too fast!  I've been busy sewing the quilt.  Today, I sewed down the two longer side borders, taking the border fabric to the back of the quilt and hemming it by hand.  Later, I pinned one of the shorter borders (the ones at the top and bottom of the quilt) in readiness to sew, tomorrow.  I still need to trim the extra batting at the other end and pin that border down, too.

I watched/listened to the news while I sewed; I watch more than one news channel and both national and international news broadcasts, so, there was something on all afternoon, while I sewed.  I did two loads of laundry, as well.  Later in the evening, I practiced the piano, watered the garden, and did the dishes.  As I was getting ready to water the side yard, today, I was startled as a blur came running past me from the front yard.  I didn't even see what it was, but, presumed it was a cat.  I glanced towards the front yard and there, on the other side of the side yard fence was a pit bull dog, without a leash!  It must have been chasing one of the garden cats!  For a moment, I was afraid it would jump over the fence (it's not a very high fence), but, it didn't.  I don't know whose dog it was or why it was running around without a leash, but, I suspect it belongs to one of the neighbors.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to sew
- The pit bull dog didn't jump over the fence and come into the back yard
- The pharmacy offering free delivery of medications
- Water for the garden
- Fresh strawberries

Today's joyful activity was sewing.

Plans for tomorrow include more sewing and tending to the garden with M.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

    1. I'll post pictures of the finished quilt, soon, although, I've posted pictures of it in progress, last year, when I finished piecing the top. Yes, that's how long it has sat as an unfinished project! Thank you; we've been having sunny (hot) days, all week. :)

  2. The quilt is looking lovely. I'm not sure I could watch that much news lol. I get so frustrated and worried and angry. It is just stressful. I usually end up putting on some crafty vlogs on YouTube when I'm crafting.

    1. Thank you, Sharon. Well, yes, the news can be a bit stressful, but, I've always been a bit of a news junkie! Yesterday, I found out that rangers in a wild life park in Sri Lanka had observed a pair of baby elephants which they believe are twins! If so, they are the first pair of twin baby elephants they've recorded in Sri Lanka. :)

  3. I agree the days are going fast! I'm glad that pit bull didn't jump the fence. I have zero tolerance for dogs on the loose unless they are friendly ones like our neighbours' dog who quietly presents himself on our deck. I think they've been at their cottage for several days and I've missed him!
We have been having rain and thunder and then of course the power went off again. It may be on by 6.30 pm but I will probably get supper earlier using the microwave. I'm tempted to get a takeout!

    1. I, too, am glad the pit bull stayed on the other side of the fence! I'm also very relieved that I wasn't in the front garden, at the time, because who knows what it might have done?!

I'm sorry about the power going out, again! If the power doesn't come on in time, then, I think takeout is a good solution!

  4. I find that watching the news programmes can be addictive and every now and then I have to wean myself off them.

I didn't know elephants could have twins. I thought each pregnancy was always a single baby.

Look forward to seeing the finished quilt. 😊

    1. I do find them addictive! There's more drama on some of them than on any soap opera! :D

I, too, didn't know that elephants could have twins! I hope both babies thrive and the mother, as well.

The quilt is coming along; I hope to finish it this weekend. :)

  5. Pit bulls are outlawed here in many places. We have had numerous incidents where they have bitten people so the powers that be outlawed them. I look forward to seeing the finished quilt. I am still working on one for a baby that is two weeks old now. Enjoy your weekend. Jean

    1. I just wish that people would keep their dogs in their yards and not allow them to run around without a leash. I went for a walk, last year, around my block, and a neighbor's two dogs came running out and bit me as I stood on the side walk outside their gate! Fortunately, they were smaller dogs and the bites weren't too bad. But, ever since then, I am nervous when I see dogs in my yard!

Do you have a lot more left to do on your baby quilt? Are you quilting it? I am tying this one and will just do a line of quilting all around to hold the edge of the batting down.

  6. What a lucky recipient to be gifted a quilt by you, Bless. She will be so thrilled. I too can't wait to see the final project.

I was attacked once by a pit bull that was off leash. Actually, it was my Boxer that was attacked. Even though I was in my own back yard, I had MY dog on a leash which I never let go of. I had this fear that if I didn't have my dog with me, I would have been the target. Eventually, by shouting and screaming and trying to hit the pit bull with a stake I managed to pull out of the garden, the dog backed off. My poor brave Boxer had to be taken to the Vet for treatment. We were never compensated for expenses, and charges were never laid to my knowledge. They are now a banned breed here. You are right for being concerned.

    1. I hope she will like the quilt, Susan.

Oh, my! What a scary encounter with the pit bull! I'm sorry your poor dog was attacked, but, thank goodness he was there to protect you!

  7. I am envious of your sewing skills. I would love to be able to create a beautiful quilt and I imagine it can be a very relaxing project.
I finally got around to ordering some face masks today. Lily chose a unicorn and rainbow fabric for hers :)

    1. Jules, I always maintain that, if one can sew a seam, then, one can sew a quilt. Try making a really simple one with just squares. You can make a smaller lap quilt. Or, a table runner, or, even a cushion cover. The first patchwork piece I did was a cushion cover, but, I used the English paper piecing method. I learned from reading directions in a magazine. These days, there are hundreds of online tutorials.

Lily's mask fabric sounds adorable! I'm all for rainbows and unicorns!

  8. That must have been a bit startling to have that pit bull without a leash running past you - I would've been scared.

I'm a news junkie too Bless. And with everything going on in our country and the world it's hard to look away!
I hope the rising cases in your city and state get under control soon.

    1. I was scared, too! I wouldn't want to get attacked by a dog in my own yard!

Yes, there's no such thing as a slow news day, these days, is there? Not just domestic news, but, international news, too.

Thank you, Debra. I, too, hope the number of cases come down. According to the Mayor's Friday news conference, there are 113 ICU beds left - what happens when they are all full?
