Quilt Making with Dancer

Dancer Helps Again

Hi Blog Friends,

It's Dancer again!  As you can see, I have been helping Mummy with the quilt she is putting together!  Mummy always says she doesn't know how she will manage to do her projects without my help!

On Monday, I helped her with measuring the fabric for the back of the quilt.  Mummy took a photo of me, making sure that the tape measure wasn't something alive that could pose any threat to her!  In the photo, I was checking to see if the other end of the tape was twitching.  It wasn't.  If it had been, then, I would have pounced on it!  Mummy said the tape measure wasn't a snake, or, even a long worm, but, I told her one can't be too sure.  I've heard of tape worms, after all, because I was once given some medicine for it, a long time ago!  The tape measure might be another form of tape worm, for all I know!

Mummy had bought the blue fabric for the borders of the quilt and the backing.  Although she bought 6 yards, there wasn't quite enough for both.  But, I told her to add a strip of some birthday print fabric that she had to the backing to make it wide enough and, since this quilt will be a birthday gift, the birthday print fabric makes a good accent, don't you agree?

On Tuesday, Mummy finished attaching the borders to the quilt top.  Mummy made the top of the quilt by sewing down strip of fabric to squares of fabric.  I told her that it is called foundation piecing.  It is a very good way to use up the fabric stash, Mummy said.  She took this photo to show the foundation squares.  You can see a little of the blue borders, too.

Then, she spread the quilt batting on top of that and then, the quilt backing and tried to pin it in place.  Of course I had to help!

Being the Ever Helpful Kitty!

Mummy says it is best to do this step on the floor, but, it is hard for her to get down on the floor.  So, she will pin it all in place on the bed, instead.  I agree that the bed is more comfortable than the floor.  Mummy is planning to do a self-binding of the quilt, by bringing the borders to the back of the quilt and hand-sewing it in place.  It is going to be a tied quilt and, yes, I'll be helping her with that, too.  I am a most helpful kitty, aren't I?

Hope all of you are keeping well and have a kitty of your own to help you with your projects!

  1. Sadly I don't have a kitty so I have to share you from afar. I think it would probably be hard to find one as helpful as you anyway. Mummy doesn't know how 'lucky' she is 😂

    1. Thank you, Eileen, that's what I tell Mummy, all the time, that she doesn't know how lucky she is that I am there to help her. I think she should give me more tuna to show her appreciation of all I do, don't you?

    1. I will post a picture once it is finished. It will be a tied quilt, I think, not quilted.

  3. Dancer, you did well to check out that tape measure and make sure it behaved well! I think your idea of putting the quilt together on the bed was very thoughtful to save Mummy having to get down on the floor. Of course it was a very comfy location for a supervisor, too! I'm not so sure you should have more tuna. You don't want Mommy to run out before the next grocery pick up, do you?

I visited my friend today and gave her little dog a cookie. I don't think your would have liked him, Dancer, he was very excitable and dogs can be a bit too much for cats who like a quiet life.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. One can never take chances with things like tape measures! Always better to be alert and check things out, I say!

Oh, no, I would not like the tuna to run out before the next grocery trip!

I hope your friend's dog thanked you, nicely. I don't like dogs, at all! One time a stray dog followed Mummy home and came inside the house and I hissed at him! Another time, some visitors brought their puppy with them and Mummy locked me up in the room, but, later, Little Bless brought me out to meet the dog and I did not like that at all!

  4. Why Dancer you are quite a help to your Mummy - well done. I believe that kitties help with any project, I know my two fur girls are most helpful with ensuring there's not a bed monster in sight when the bed sheets are changed.

    1. Ooh, yes, I, too, make sure that there are no bed monsters when Mummy changes the sheets! What are the names of your fur girls?

    2. Sooty Paws & Smokey Puss, who are full sisters.

    3. Those are nice names! Mummy says you give nice names to the chipmunks who live in your garden. We don't have any chipmunks, but we have lots of cats in the garden. Mummy has give them names, too, but, I don't get to play with them; I have to play alone inside the house while they run around in the garden. Which is very unfair, I think.

  5. I'm so glad you are there to help. Perhaps you could have a word with Mog as she is not as generous with her assistance as you are. Then again....perhaps it's better if you don't. :)

    1. Thank you, Jules. Oh, OK, I won't say anything to Mog if you'd rather I didn't. :)

  6. Your work is never done, is it Dancer? Mummy is always up to one thing or another that she needs your help with. She's lucky you're there to help her.

    1. Yes; sometimes Mummy waits until I am taking a nap to start a project, because she says she doesn't want to bother me, but, I am a light sleeper, so I hear her doing something and I come to check on her and help. I promised Little Bless, when she went away, that I would help Mummy.

  7. Dancer, I'm sure your mummy appreciates all that you do to help her. You do inspections of the grocery orders, supervise the clearing of table tops and other surfaces, check for the bed monsters that may be lurking in the freshly laundered sheets, and laying on the clothes basket of fresh laundry so those monsters don't have a chance of moving in. Beyond that, singing along with her during piano practice, helping her make quilts and keeping all those paper bits from flying off while she is cutting them up....well that is just the cream on top. I think you are both so lucky to have each other. It doesn't hurt to expect the occasional extra spoonful of tuna.

    1. Susan, you are so right! I do all that and more! I will certainly keep hoping for a little extra tuna - every now and then, she does give me a little bit extra. :)

Hello Dancer, I am Lucy, Sharon's owner, she had a shock when she saw the last photo of you, she thought I had moved to USA. she said that I was the splitting image of you, I dont see it as you are a boy cat, I am a girl cat, she is going to a photo of me on her blog soon. 9. Oh Dancer, you are a wonderful helper. I wish I had a kitty like you! Would you like to take a trip to Florida one of these days? You can play with ducks and birds in my yard, and go fishing in the lake too.

    1. Thank you, Nil. I wish I could visit you, but, I'd have to be in my cat carrier and I don't like being in it, especially when I have to go in it in the car! But, I'd love to play with ducks and birds and go fishing! Sometimes, I sit by the window and watch the birds in our yard, but, Mummy doesn't let me go outside to play with them!

  10. Dancer - you are so brave to protect your Mommy from the possible snake.
I'm glad you're so cautious and careful (as well as helpful) and I'm sure your Mommy loves you greatly :)
