Sewing and Temple on Saturday

It was 3:30 a.m. when I fell asleep, last night, and I was woken up at 4:00 a.m. by Dancer coming into my bedroom and making that peculiar cry he makes when he is about to hack up something, and sure enough, he brought up a hairball!  Why he has to come right next to my bed in order to do so, I don't know.  I guess he wants to make sure I know about it!  I got up, cleaned it all up, and went back to sleep.  I slept until he started walking all over me and headbutting me, "Mreow? Mummy, are you up?  What about breakfast?" "No, Dancer, let me sleep!"   10 minutes later, another headbutting,  and a more insistent "Meow!  Wake up, Mummy!  Breakfast!"  It's not that he's had no food - there are two bowls of dry food (two different kinds, one is the hairball formula) left out for him to eat at all times.  But, it was 10:00 a.m. and he wanted his morning serving of tuna!  Spoiled kitty!  Yes, I got up, opened a new can of tuna, gave him a teaspoon of it, fed the garden strays who were all seated outside the sliding glass door, waiting (they get dry food, not tuna!), and made myself a cup of tea.

Then, I put away the laundry I had left to dry, overnight, checked my emails, responded to blog comments, visited a few other blogs, etc.  Cousin P called around 11:30 a.m. and I chatted with her for a bit.  Then, I ate a tuna sandwich for brunch.

I spent the afternoon hemming my daughter's friend's dress.  It took a little longer than I thought, because, of course, the bobbin thread had to act up when I was sewing the upper layer of skirt and I had to unpick and resew!  I have asked her to come by, tomorrow evening, with her shoes, for a final fit on.

I had a cup of tea and watched some news, after that.  Then, I got dressed to go to the Temple, to participate in the blessing ceremony they are holding every Saturday evening, until the end of October.  It started at 7:00 p.m. and ended at 8:30 p.m., after which dinner was served to all who participated: yellow rice, noodles with vegetables, dhal (lentil) curry, pol (coconut) sambol, mackerel curry, and fried pappadum (lentil wafers).  Desserts included cakes, ice cream, apple bananas, and a type of fudge made with semolina.

I chatted with my daughter after I came home.

Today's joyful activities were sewing and going to the Temple.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to participate in the blessing ceremony at the Temple
- Answered prayers
- A safe drive there and back
- Dancer's "wake up" service!
- Chatting with my daughter

Plans for tomorrow include going to the monthly prayer gathering and having my daughter's friend try on her dress.  Fingers crossed that the length is correct!

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

  1. That was very kind of Dancer to wake you, and a 'gift' of sorts as well!!

I hope the dress turns out to be the correct length so you can count the job as being completed. Will you start on your new sweater next?

    1. Yes, it was very kind of him, wasn't it? He woke me up, today, too, especially as I turned off the alarm and went back to sleep! :D

I hope so, too! I might have to take up the under layer of skirt a bit in one place, as it looks a bit longer than the top layer when I hang it up!

I am going to start on the baby quilts, next, I think. I need to have one done by October 13 and the other by October 19. Oh, and I need to have the Halloween cats fabric sewn up before that! And maybe finish the neck warmer I've already started knitting. :)

  2. There's no way you could go hungry at the blessing ceremony at the temple. I went to a wedding this weekend where I could say the same.

    1. Food, and plenty of it, seems to be such an integral part ceremonies and gatherings in so many cultures, doesn't it? I think it is something we all share. :)

  3. MY thanks to YOU for the good thoughts about my daughter- this series of chemo has been really rough and quite horrendous (she has had every possible side effect) but the good news is that scans 2 weeks ago show improvement in all the affected areas, so she is hanging in with whatever grace she can maintain- as for the unexpected nightmare that (supposedly) weak storm Imelda has brought to the Texas coast,
that has missed me by only a few miles- just slightly south of where I live there is incredible flooding and damage- I've been through hurricane winds, rains, and floods, but the flood damage they are having is really sad-
once again, thanks for your sweet and kind thoughts- I keep you and your family in my mind too-
    regards as always from here-
    Barb

    1. Aw, your poor daughter. I am glad her recent scans are showing improvement. I hope she continues to improve and start feeling better, soon. I don't know your/her religion, but, I was given a prayer to St. Peregrine, who is the Catholic saint for cancer. I am not Catholic, as you know, but, I still say that prayer, every night, for myself and for others who have cancer.

I'm glad the flooding missed you. Stay safe!

    2. I think any religion, sincerely believed in and practiced, deserves all respect and consideration- I am Lutheran, but I was educated through grade 12 at a Catholic school and feel very comfortable 'among the saints'- thank you for reminding me of good Saint Peregrine ... I have just copied several of his prayers and will say them nightly too-
      again- thanks-

    1. LOL; I had some, today, at the monthly prayer gathering. My mother used to make stringhoppers and I have her stringhopper mold and all the racks, both wicker ones and plastic ones, but I have not made any, myself! I don't have the strength in my hands to squeeze the dough through the mold!
