Friend M stopped by to give me something to spray on the peach tree, which is showing signs of being attacked by some type of borer - there's dried sap on the trunk. He told me to break off the dried sap, spray this treatment, and seal it by painting the area with white glue.
In the afternoon, I started shortening daughter's bridesmaid dress. I had pinned it the last time she was here, but, I had a feeling that it needed to be shortened a bit more, so I hadn't sewn it. I had her try it on, again, yesterday, and I was right! It needed to be shortened a bit more! So, I had to repin it! The dress has a silky underskirt (or slip), and two layers of skirt. I hemmed the underskirt and the bottom layer of skirt, then, took a break to have a cup of iced coffee my daughter had made for me. Then, I drove her to her friend's house, as her friend was giving her a ride to their other friend's bachelorette party and back.
Came home after dropping off my daughter and sewed the top layer of skirt. Then, I took in the dress at the waist, because it was a little too big on my daughter. I also pinned the neck line as it is a cross-over style and it shows too much cleavage for my daughter's comfort. I need my daughter to try it on before I sew it (I'll hand sew it, in a manner that won't be seen, catching only the lining of the blouse).
Later, I returned friend R's phone call and we chatted for a bit. Then, aunt C called and we had a long chat!
My daughter's friend dropped her off after the party, which was nice. Daughter and I had both had an early dinner, but, we were both feeling like we could have something more. So, we made a fast food run and bought hamburgers and an order of fries which we shared! So much so for diets! LOL. But, I only make late night fast food runs when my daughter is home, so, it's a bit of a treat! In fact, my daughter said she had just been telling her friend who gave her a ride, about them (apparently, her friend had asked if my daughter wanted something from a hamburger place they passed before getting on the freeway)! Then, we stayed up for a bit and chatted. I went to bed earlier than daughter, though!
Yesterday, I was grateful for:
- Friend M bringing me the treatment for the peach tree
- Daughter's friend giving her a ride to the party and bringing her home, afterwards
- The sewing machine worked well and didn't give me any trouble with hemming the dress
- Iced coffee
- Phone calls with family and friends
So far, today, we've had a relaxed morning and I'm cooking milk rice for brunch. Plans for the rest of the day include going shopping.
How was your Saturday? What are your plans for today?
That is do nice to have some relax in the morning☺
ReplyDeleteOne of the best things about being retired is not having to rush around in the mornings!
DeleteIt sounds like you had a bit of busy-ness sewing that gown. I have done that more times than I care to remember-and usually last minute. lol
ReplyDeleteOnce in a while a late night treat is so worth it for the camaraderie as much as the treat.
Have a wonderful night. Diana
Diana, yes, my daughter had to order the dress online, so she couldn't try it on before buying it. She doesn't need the dress until October, so I have some time to alter it. I do have to hem her friend's dress, as well, though.
DeleteYes, we enjoy going for a late night treat whenever she's visiting. It's one of those things that's almost a ritual. :)
"The fast food run with your daughter sounds like a lot of fun. I have certain foods I only eat in certain situations just for the fun of it. For example, I always get cheese spread when I go back to visit my hometown. I could get it other times, but it's not the best thing to eat all of the time and waiting makes it special.
ReplyDeleteIt's become one of our mother-daughter things to do, whenever she's visiting, Live and Learn. Sometimes, it's a hamburger, at other times, it's an ice cream cone. :)
DeleteHi Bless, It sounds like you had fun with your daughter. I hve been knitting, reading, and cleaning. My friend from New York called me, and we had a nice long chat. Tomorrow I plan to make a birthday cake for my neighbor. He is turning five.
ReplyDeleteWe did have a fun visit, Stephenie. Sounds like you've had a lovely day and I'm sure your neighbor is going to enjoy the birthday cake you'll be making for him!
DeleteYou are a sewing expert! I find it very hard to alter the waist of a dress.
ReplyDeleteNot really, Nil; I just took in from the two sides!
DeleteI'm so happy you've been enjoying some time with your daughter and how talented you are to be able to adjust the bridesmaids dress. X
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules. It was very nice to have daughter home for a few days. As for the sewing, it's mostly hemming. :)
