Quiet Wednesday

Another warm day, but, the weather forecast says it will cool down to the 80s and 70s, with even a chance of rain, later in the week!

I had a fairly quiet day, today, partly because I was feeling nauseated (side effect of some of the medications I take).  I wasn't able to sew as much on the baby quilt as I had hoped to, either, because the sewing machine was acting up, with the bobbin thread getting jammed all the time.  I will change the bobbin thread, tomorrow, and hopefully, that will take care of the problem.

I did a load of laundry in the afternoon.  I had to toss out three pillowcases I had sewn several years ago as they all tore during today's washing!  I considered mending them, but, the fabric was too worn out.  I think I sewed them at least 12 years ago!

Brunch had been cereal.  Later, I cooked rice in my new rice cooker (tried it out for the first time, today), a mackerel curry, and a lentil curry (dhal).  I also had some of my tomato chutney with it.

I finished reading my library book, today.  The Occupied Garden, by Kristen den Hartog and Tracy Kasaboski.  I enjoyed reading it.

Friend R called in the evening and we chatted for a bit.  Later, I video chatted with my daughter.

My utilities bill came in the mail, today; $310.47.  It covers water, electricity, sewer service, and solid waste collection (trash, recycling, and yard waste collection) for two months.  I went over my Tier 1 water allocation for the period.  I am allowed 16 hundred cubic feed (HCF) of water at Tier 1 rates ($6.55/HCF) and I had used 21 HCF.  The additional 5 HCF is billed at a higher rate of $8.22/HCF.  I guess I watered the garden too much!

Today, I am grateful for:
- A relaxed day
- Lemon lime soda and crackers
- Library books
- The new rice cooker working without any problems
- Cool evenings

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for tomorrow?

  1. I am very sorry that one of the side effects of your meds is nausea. I think that's one of the worst feelings in the world. I sometimes feel dizzy and very sleepy as a side effect of one of my meds, but I'll take those anytime over nausea. Hope today is a better day.

    1. I'm feeling better, today, thank you. A couple of the medications I take do list dizziness and drowsiness as side effects, but, I don't feel those side effects.

  2. it is cooling down here today too ... but I won't get too smug about it, because there will be more days of blistering heat again before we actually feel a more seasonal drop in the temps- better enjoy it though for now-
sorry you are feeling yucky- essential meds may be lifesavers, but they do come with a price often- hope this will be temporary for you-
umm, tomato chutney sounds good ... now I feel a real need for something tastier than oatmeal for breakfast-
hope your day will be a good one-
    the usual regards from here-

    1. I'm feeling better, today, Susie, thank you. $300 is about average for my utility bill; one time, though, when I had two sprinklers that leaked, I received a $600 bill that did knock the wind out of me!

I started counting my blessings at a time when things were at a very low point. It was very easy to count all the things that were wrong and feel very sorry for myself, but, I decided to count my blessings, instead, and focus on what I could be grateful for. It helped. :)

  4. Sometimes if I’m nauseated, I put one teaspoon of baking soda in 8oz of water and drink it. It doesn’t taste great, but it works.

    1. Thank you for sharing that tip, Akasha. I haven't tried that, but, maybe, next time, I will.

  5. Hi Bless, I love how you are grateful for the small things. Yesterday was great. Lula is healing well, and things are moving along. I am loving being home.

    1. Sometimes, it is good to acknowledge the small things that might be overlooked, otherwise. :) I'm glad to hear that Lula is healing well and things are going well.

  6. I've been away for over a week and we got back on Friday at 8 pm and now I am catching up on your blog. I'm glad the dress worked out for your daughter's friend, that is one job over with. Also I'm glad you enjoyed that book. I haven't had time to look for the one you were reading.
It's pretty wet here. It had rained while we were away and it rained overnight and the yard seems quite soggy. There were one or two overripe blackberries on a bush and they were soggy, too!

    1. Welcome back, Bushlady! I hope you had a good trip. It rained, here, too, and I am happy because I don't have to water the garden for a few more days! :)
