Prayer Gathering on Sunday

Today, I attended the monthly rosary prayer gathering, hosted by Aunt Y, one of the members of the extended family.  Dancer woke me up, as usual, especially since I had turned off the alarm and gone back to sleep!  But, I woke up in good time to have my morning tea and shower and dress before friend F and cousin P came over to ride along with me.  Friend F doesn't drive on the freeways and cousin P, who never liked to drive, doesn't drive at all, now.  I am happy to drive and glad of their company and for being able to provide this service for them.

I had asked them to be here by 12:00 noon, so we could reach the prayer gathering by 1:00 p.m.  Friend F arrived first, and while we waited for cousin P, she looked around the living room and said it looked different.  She asked me if I had changed anything or got new drapes, but I said no, I just tried to declutter it, a bit!  I don't notice it that much, because I see it, every day, but, I guess others do notice a difference!  She also brought me a bag of sweets as a treat - a type of fudge known as milk toffee, coconut rock, homemade marshmallows, and several pieces of butter cake!

We left as soon as cousin P came over and got to the prayer gathering at 1:00 p.m.  We weren't the first to arrive, but, we weren't the last, either.  We waited until everyone was there and then, they recited the prayers while I sat and listened.  As I've mentioned before, I am the only non-Catholic who attends these prayer gatherings, regularly.  Afterwards, lunch was served - a type of noodles made from rice flour, that are called stringhoppers and several curries to go with them.  A birthday cake (for Aunt Y's son), flan, and ice cream for dessert.

We were there until aound 3:30 p.m., then, we left.  The drive home took about one hour.  I made myself a cup of tea, washed the dishes that were in the sink, and adjusted my daughter's friend's skirt, a little bit more, because the bottom layer of the skirt did seem a bit longer than the top layer in one spot!  I am waiting for her to arrive to try on the dress, once more, and, hopefully, she'll be satisfied with it!

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to attend the prayer gathering
- Being able to give a ride to friend F and cousin P
- A safe drive there and back
- Seeing family and friends
- A lovely warm day (today's high was 99F)

Plans for tomorrow include:
- Going to the pharmacy to pick up medication refill
- Change my bed sheets
- Do a load of laundry
- Go to the bank to pay a bill
- Take the trash cans out

How was your Sunday?  What have you planned for Monday?

  2. Homemade marshmallows! I wouldn't know where to begin. Sunday was quiet and I did some baking which I'll no doubt mention in a post sometime this week. Today (Monday) I've been to the gym and the bank, having my hair done later and then going to our Slimming World group golden celebration (50 years in existence).

    1. You start with unflavored gelatin and water, although I haven't made any in a long time. The problem I have when I make sweets at home is I end up eating it all! Looking forward to reading about your baking, Eloise. Sounds like you're enjoying your Monday. Hope you have a fun time at the golden celebration. :)

  3. I have my prescriptions delivered via post now. I just request the medication from my doctor using the online system and it arrives through my letterbox about six days later. So much easier than it used to be.

I like your description of the prayer gatherings and the communal meal. It sounds like a pleasant combination of faith and friendship.

    1. I do have the option of having them delivered by mail, but, I prefer to just go and pick them up. Gets me out of the house, the car gets driven, and there are other shops and the bank in the same shopping mall, so I get to run other errands, too. :)

I enjoy attending these monthly prayer gatherings. I get to see members of the extended family and a few long-time friends and share a meal with them.

  4. Even if you don't say the prayers, I'm sure it provides a quiet time to just be still and reflect.

    1. Yes, and I believe that the sound waves of the prayers being said is beneficial, too. It is a blessing, no matter, what.
