Gifts on the Doorstep

Gardenias and White Nectarines

Today, I came home from work to a gift of gardenias and white nectarines left on my doorstep by my friend M who tends to my garden!  A note said they were from his garden.  I immediately brought them in and floated the flowers in a bowl of water and the put the nectarines in a bowl and placed them both on the small dining table to take the photo, above.  Then, I placed the bowl of gardenias on the fireplace mantle in the living room, next to a photograph of my mother (my mother loved gardenias as much as she loved roses and they were among the first plants she planted when I bought my house, except they all died after a few years).  Their fragrance is perfuming my whole room.  And I cut up and ate two of the nectarines - they tasted so sweet.  I must say, there's nothing nicer than coming home to a gift of flowers and fruit from a friend's garden. :-)

There was also a gift of a gentle shower of rain, this morning, from Mother Nature, herself, in addition to last night's rain.  The garden got a good soaking and it means I don't have to water the garden this weekend.

Then, there was a gift of a letter from my mother's long-time friend, which I received in the mail today!  She and my mother became friends when they were in college, together, and kept in touch with each other over the years.  Since my mother's death, she keeps in touch with me.  :-)

I had a productive day at the office, today, but have had a relaxed evening since coming home.   I called and chatted to a friend and made plans to get together on Sunday, since we couldn't get together over Mother's Day as planned earlier.  And I video chatted with my daughter.  And shortly, I'll be writing to a friend.  I love a relaxed Friday evening, don't you?
