Rain on Sunday, Too

New Croton Plant

One of the purchases at the dollar store, on Saturday, was this croton plant, which, at $30.00 was the most expensive item I bought!

I had been wanting a new houseplant and had looked up the prices of some houseplants online, but, hadn't decided quite which one I wanted.  The dollar store had both croton plants and dwarf banana plants, and I was tempted to buy both, but, I chose to get the croton.  The banana plant would have to be grown outside and with night time temperatures still going down to the low 40s (tonight's low is supposed to be 43F), I wasn't sure how well it would survive.

The croton, however, could be grown indoors (provided it gets enough sunlight), or, it could be grown outdoors, once the temperature is consistently above 50F, even at night.  We used to have crotons in the garden in my childhood home, but, previous attempts at growing them, here, had met with limited success.  I am hoping that this time, I'll have better luck!

All parts of the croton plant are toxic to cats, so I have placed it on a high counter (the pass through between the kitchen and the family room), out of Dancer's reach.  I might have to move it to the dining table, in front of the window, to receive more sunlight (and make sure that Dancer doesn't jump on the table.

There are three plants in the one pot

It rained on Sunday, too, and daughter and I decided to stay home and relax.  I tried on the clothes that my cousin gave us (daughter had already selected the ones she wanted) and I selected five blouses.  All of them are long sleeved, four of them are summer blouses and one is a knit fabric, suitable for cooler weather, which is a "maybe".  It's mostly black, with a bright pink animal design v-shaped insert in the front!  I am not quite sure if I like the design, but, I will keep it for now and then decide if I want to give it away.

I also got the robot vacuum to vacuum the family room, today, and it complied without any problems!  Yay!

We had chicken pot pies from the freezer for brunch, today.  Later in the evening, neighbor S called and brought over lahmajoon (Armenian "pizza") that her mother had made, stuffed zucchini that her daughter had made, and some Easter bread that a friend had made!  There were also some candy, too! We had some of the lahmajoon for dinner!

Dinner: Stuffed Zucchini, Lahmajoon, Easter Bread, and Candy

On Sunday, I was grateful for:

- More rain for the garden
- S bringing us a delicious dinner
- My leg is feeling better
- A relaxed day at home
- Working appliances

Today's joyful activity was enjoying the dinner that neighbor S provided!

Tomorrow, daughter will work from home and I will tend to a few things around the house.  There's dried laundry to be put away, another load of laundry (bed sheets) to be done, and I need to make an appointment to take Dancer in to be checked by the vet.

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday?

  1. Shame that you will have to keep Dancer well away from your plant and you wouldn't be able to grow it outside because that's where Mama Cat lives, it is very beautiful though. Your neighbour brought you some nice food too, how fortunate you are to such a generous friend. I'm going to wash our bedding today too and hang it outside while the weather is good although it was raining earlier.

    1. Dancer likes to munch on plants, so, I have to keep the houseplants out of his reach. Yes, I'm blessed to have a generous neighbor like S. She is a good friend. Hope you were able to wash and dry your bedding. I got mine done and my daughter helped me to remake the bed. :)

  2. Beautiful lush croton plant. I am sure between your green thumb & M's green thumb it will do well. The plants I am starting for outside get locked in the bathroom at night as I don't trust my fur girls not to get up on things (col). Your bulb packages from yesterday's post are all ones I also like to grow. Cheers to a pretty summer of bloom.

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. I'm hoping the croton (and the bulbs, too) will do well. Dancer likes to munch on plants, but, his arthritis keeps him from jumping up onto tables, for the most part.

  3. I love the Croton plant—it looks like a perfect houseplant. Since it’s a 3-in-1, maybe you can grow some indoors and some outside.
Those are delicious-looking treats from your neighbors. I’ve never heard of the Armenian pizza. That looks especially good.
Of course Rebel the robot is behaving while your technical expert is in residence! 😉
I have another hybrid work day with 2 hours in person sandwiched between work from home. 😬

    1. Yes, that is a good idea, to divide the croton plant and have one plant indoors and the other two outside. :)
We enjoyed the treats from my neighbor; my daughter really liked the Armenian pizza. If you are interested, I posted S's recipe here:

Ha, ha, yes, Rebel is very good, right now, with my tech expert in residence! We did the bedroom and the family room, again, today, too!
I hope your hybrid work day went well. I'm not sure if I'd like to go in for just two hours!

  4. Now that we don't have cats, maybe I'll get some more house plants. Unfortunately, most house plants are poisonous to cats, and it seemed no matter how high we placed them, one of them would always find a way to get to them. So the only indoor plants we have now are behind a closed door in an extra bedroom. The problem with that is that they were kind of "out of sight, out of mind," and don't always get the best care.

    1. Perhaps you can bring out the plants you have in that extra bedroom and spread them around the house. I generally have a hard time keeping houseplants alive during the summer, but, I do enjoy having them. :)

  5. That meal sounds amazing! I am folding my laundry that is drying out in the sunshine right now. The weather is gorgeous, and it has been lovely to sit out on the front porch, listening to the birds and the bees, and reading a library book.

  6. The croton is beautifully colourful. I hope you can keep Dancer away from it, but I guess he doesn't jump very high in his old age (I know the feeling!). The food looks yummy! Which reminds me, I have to decide which of 3 possibilities to make for supper. One involves a can opener and is very tempting but after a rest this afternoon, I may be more adventurous.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; I hope the croton will retain its coloring and that Dancer will keep away from it! The food was delicious! I'm sure you'll have a lovely supper, even if it meant using a can opener! :)

    1. Thank you, Sharon. Crotons need plenty of sunshine to maintain the colors, so, I'll have to move it closer to one of the windows, later.

  8. What a beauty of a plant that is. I love the coloring. You must be very happy with it.
Neighbor S brought you some nice food.

    1. Thank you, Debra. I do like the coloring and it reminds me a bit of the types of plants that grew in the garden of my childhood home. :) S's food was delicious as always!
